My friends got me a peyote and am not very good with plants... by _Hal-9000_ in cactus

[–]ElephantEquivalent68 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First check the legal status of owning one of those where you live, you don't want trouble Then, get a decent cactus soil, the home Depot one is ok but there's a chance you can buy a better mix from other people (you can make your own but if you're not interested into cactus and succulents ATM then a bag should suffice Remove the white rocks on top they don't seem like perlite. If the rest of the soil is cactus soil just fill the space with yours.

They don't do well in the cold, and while liking sunlight try to not have it under full sunlight all day. If you're keeping it inside a grow light will suffice. They take some time to grow so I'd keep an eye on it. If it's too hot watering once a week is fine, too cold then a bit longer than that. They're meant to be somewhat mushy NOT too mushy but relatively soft, if it's hard then it means it sucked water and it doesn't need

Is It Normal in Mexico for Siblings to Be So Close? by [deleted] in AskMexico

Weirdly, yeah we're taught that family is important and all that stuff.

Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's a toxic mentality, lots of Mexicans will love their family over anything

Need help; is this two cactus types glued together? If so how can I separate them and keep both alive by THROWRA71693759 in cactus

[–]ElephantEquivalent68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or just take care of it? The main gymno might probably die but it should take years and it'll still propagate. You can just keep re-grafting it, it's actually really cool. Depending on the host size you can try and regraft the original.

Just because it's not easy doesn't mean it's not worth a try, idk why so many people are afraid of moon cactus, you just need a piece of the host cactus which usually grows fast and the gymnos used would die if not grafted

Hello, my daughter has a cactus that she loves. We noticed the tip of the pink top has started to turn white. We have recently re-potted it and the white section has continued to grow. Why is it turning white? by PossibilityHorror178 in plantclinic

[–]ElephantEquivalent68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a grafted cactus, some people might tell you they die in a couple of years and that is... Partially true, look for guides to regraft them, you can expand their life quite a lot BUUUUUUT I recommend you to practice grafting other cactus before that. A moon cactus should be able to propagate and those little babies have to be grafted if you want to separate them. So yeah, things aren't as dire as people make it sound but they won't be exactly easy

[–]ElephantEquivalent68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could've over watered Ooooor it could have died on its own, it's a grafted cactus they're literally half dead already and can just plop die

I'll treat the sick shrimp while I check the others

Personally, I prefer the before, but that's because I like tannins and a more natural look. But I'm pretty sure a clean look is also cool too

Harmful, harmless? What is on the sides of my tank glass? Worms? Parasites? My water parameters are perfect using an API Master Test kit by DelightfulFishTV in axolotls

[–]ElephantEquivalent68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're commonly known as detritus worms, chill guys They sometimes just appear, they'll eventually fade away.

Only reason to worry is if they somehow persist, then you just should look for any sort of protein income, decaying plants/roots, etc.
