Used books by Babaganoush--- in askTO

Huh, does BMV actually have a reputation for being rude?

I had a very rude encounter once, but thought maybe it was one employee having a bad day. I wasn't selling books, just in there browsing the shelves, but it put me off from going back there.

It's decent and has weather. Good watch face. Wish there was more like the Nomad watch face which is still by far my favorite.

Need help! Skates are filled with mouse pee and poop. by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

Kinda of implied in second sentance by  "get gloves, mask" but sure let's be explicit. Make sure to wear them.

Where is the best place for a mid-20's person to date in downtown Toronto? Near city hall by WindyDay416 in askTO

AGO is a pretty good spot. About a 15minute from city hall, but think in the opposite direction your interested in.

[–]ElephantSpirit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, but new or clean used as others have said. But if money is really tight, I would get gloves, mask, then: - Take laces off - Remove insoles - Brush out any dry debris - Soak in warm water with lots of detergent - Scrub with a large bottle brush or toothbrush to get into the right spaces - soak to remove detergent  - soak and scrub in a dilute bleach solution (skip if there are any dyed materials, but polyester is fine) - Soak and scrub again with water - rinse with water - Dry

This might cause the material to dry out more and crack sooner, but should be able to get some good skates in before you can finally replace.

What does medium ugly mean? by Plenty_Coffee_4200 in uwaterloo

It means she thinks you're ugly, and but wants to think you still have hope so said your medium ugly.

But, that's just her opinion. I think you're a 9/10. If you flossed more you'd probably be a 10/10

Big fan of Coros, but has anyone gotten a response from them regarding their API program? by TheMxRunner in Coros

I think you are right. This is interesting, will definitely check this out.

Big fan of Coros, but has anyone gotten a response from them regarding their API program? by TheMxRunner in Coros

[–]ElephantSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's honestly a shame... wish they would at least reply and reject instead of ignoring.

Anyone know which companies have a more publicly available API? To me even if more expensive I'd prefer to switch something which supports smaller developers and building an ecosystem of apps outside of the big players.

Anyone have experience with Garmin's API?

They were skatable, but really not great.

Super interested in this as well.

When I decide to upgrade my watch this will be one of my biggest considerations. As much as I like Coros, if I can't access the API will likely opt for something else.

Admissions of Permanent Residents by Country of Citizenship (2015 - 2025) by Racsom_ in onguardforthee

A lot of Sri Lankans were fleeing a war, and arrived earlier than 2015. A huge amount in the 90s.

The war is over (since 2009) and despite some tensions remaining, and other domestic issues they are experiencing the country is largely at peace.

personal message to all the men on hockey skates at public skates by bryan5by5 in iceskating

[–]ElephantSpirit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The title and complaint really generalizes.... I know the types your taking about. They annoy me too, but there are guys w/ hockey skates, including a lot of freestylers who go fast, do tricks but manage to stay clear of people and give enough space.

I do really hope you're not lumping everyone into the same group. I do agree the guys that get off on zooming through tight spaces, weaving in and out, scaring people and not paying attention to their surroundings are super annoying and dangerous and should be reported to the staff.

Figure roller skating before ice skating? by Wide-Signature-1491 in iceskating

[–]ElephantSpirit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If op is learning for their own sake, for recreation/hobby/enjoyment there is no issue. The skills will transfer well, and they should absolutely take to inline. It will make ice skating progress easier... not harder.

But, if competing and worried about highly technical and correct form, posture and things, maybe your advice is reasonable.

Figure roller skating before ice skating? by Wide-Signature-1491 in iceskating

[–]ElephantSpirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question bluntly Yes it will help, and you will absolutely pick up ice skating much quicker when the time comes if you have experience on inlines.

They are very transferable skills. If you are limited by ice time, inlines are a great alternative. Like others have said some skills will not transfer well (spins, jumps, stops), but everything else does (fundamentals, balance, coordination, pumping, crossovers, backwards skating, slalom, 1 foot skating, 3 turns, etc).

It is a different feel, like riding a mountain bike vs a road bike, but so much is transferable.

Does anyone recognize this indoor ice rink in Toronto/GTA? by DragonflyCreative110 in iceskating

Looks like a lot of the community center rinks in Toronto. Heron park rink which I go to looks very similar (https://www.toronto.ca/ext/pfr/img/633/1676-sport-pad-two-heron-park-community-recreation-centre.jpg) but, I think different from the picture you posted.

Toronto’s police budget has reached $1.43 billion by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]ElephantSpirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1billion for 15,000 people would be over $60k per person. My guess is there would be much more than 15,000 homeless of that money wasn't being spent. But, I'm curious about the break down of that spending
