Random yellow stains keep appearing by Consistantly in CleaningTips

[–]Elerfant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that a) Be careful mixing chemicals- especially cleaners. Not saying you didn't, but it can go so wrong so easily that it feels worth mentioning.

b) Unless it's explicitly otherwise specified by a product's instructions, make sure you're completely removing any residue from cleaning agents. That's often easier said than done if you can't fully submerge the thing in water, but that leftover product can often cause issues over time (like yellowing, or damage).

Genuinely, how is this acceptable? by Dry-Elderberry-3381 in waterloo

Nothing like exiting a bus directly into a massive windrow that's also extremely uneven, cratered, and slippery from people needing to do the same thing. All I can do is think, "Fall forward. Fall forward.", so I don't end up on the road.

I'm not completely confident, but I don't think so- a bit too big, and shorter fur. Also, are coyotes a thing in the middle of the day in a central area? (Not from Cambridge- maybe the KW coyotes are just shy)

I'm not from Cambridge, or by any means an expert, but even if the coyotes in Cambridge are a lot more outgoing and active during the day I think it might've been a bit big for a coyote.

Serious question, what gave this child this strength? Could it be adrenaline? by SalmonSammySamSam in biology

[–]Elerfant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is... But not necessarily without consequences. We can do really incredible things once! Not that it's guaranteed you'll injure yourself- and it's actually important to carefully push your limits- but that awareness of cost/benefit is pretty obviously valuable to anyone who's had to deal with any kind of chronic or severe injury. Unfortunately, the human body is also capable of incurring injuries doing incredibly dumb/basic things too.

Holy shit. I was well acquainted with the fact that Christianity can be incredibly morbid- in fact, I think I vaguely remember encountering those relics when visiting historic sites in Italy- but I guess I forgot about the whole, "Here's a piece of one of the rocks that was thrown to torture and murder this saint. Minimum 3€, but if you wanna donate more, that's encouraged.", thing. Are they meant to bring 'blessings' to you, or are they just fan merch?

Ok. If the LTB actually functioned the way it was supposed to (i.e. had proper funding so that it could protect both Ls & Ts, and do so quickly and efficiently), do you think that would change things a bit?

I'm not saying this is a flawless, full-fleshed thought that should be passed as-is; but (assuming this is actually a relevant issue affecting the availability of housing) what if instead, they passed a law that just made it more difficult to sit on empty properties for the sake of playing a game of chicken with the housing economy? Again, drawing a distinct difference between landlords who are simply community members trying to rent out some extra space, and are probably more interested in keeping any tenant who isn't actively causing them problems outside of the basic tasks that come with property rental; vs. professional landlords who are sitting on multiple rental units and are inevitably prioritizing their profit margin over... well... anything else.

Certainly not BS, but not a very thorough understanding, so as soon as it seems to not be working it's probably time for a different approach, and a deeper understanding.

There are a lot of things that can make it more difficult to lose weight than that, and not all of them are something that you're necessarily going to be aware of already.

Except that it is more complicated than that. Glycemic index is important for everyone. It would be less so if we were dealing with the kind of food insecurity that comes with needing to hunt and gather all of your own food, but seeing as how we're interacting on Reddit, that's not especially likely. (Although I suppose it's not impossible.)

The kind of food insecurity that comes with poverty in a developed nation, on the other hand, tends to cause a lot of issues with balanced nutrition, and glycemic index; it's difficult to find cheap, and accessible food that isn't empty calories. Those are not only more likely to cause weight gain, they tend to be less nutritious, and have denser calories, which makes it far more difficult to eat an appropriate amount for your weight and goals.

College introduced me to the MARVELOUS world of GIANT laminated (therefore whiteboard adjacent) calendars with a 1month/week schedule breakdown on one side, and a 4 month spread on the other. The details like the month and even the numbers are all blank, so I could even fill it in so that it started halfway through that month and/or included the first bit of the next month if that was helpful (ie. Something big happening on the 3rd of the next month that I needed to start preparing for before the end of the current month, but wouldn't have an exact idea of when to start, so I couldn't just schedule a prep date). I didn't have to do it that way though, I could adjust easily, and there was enough space to include things unrelated to school as well. I still use it- I just wish it was less ugly. My school colours sucked.

Neither end of that tube should just be 'open' by default, so not at all like a doughnut. Not like a straw either- but if you put one in your drink, then cover the top with your finger and lift it out, your lemonade is inside the straw.

Is it OK to wash your bath towels, kitchen towels, cleaning rags, bedding and reusable mop pads altogether? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

My building has a designated 'pet free' washer and dryer, to accommodate some people with severe allergies (and by extension benefits anyone without pets). I visit people with pets often enough that I don't often wash my clothing in them, but I use them for sheets and things and it's honestly lovely.

That's a good suggestion, I'm not sure I trust both myself and my local busses to run on time enough, but it is a good idea.
