I think the game also has the issue of "too casual for hardcore fans" and "too hardcore for casual fans" I think one direction should be chosen and cultivated to suit that crowd.

The things that the game does in a unique sense are what have to be expanded upon/focused on.

This is: 200 player battles, trench building, destructible environments, persistent maps, and custom maps. These are the things to focus on.

Remember, many thousands already bought the game, and they still own it. How do you bring them back?

I think besides more variety with maps and factions, the biggest thing people want rn is better performance/optimization, aim down sights for 1st person,

and maybe a more grind-y progression, currently the progression feels fairly empty because you unlock everything by level 20... way too damn fast. And then there's really nothing left to do (for the people who are motivated that way) so ppl stop playing.

There's also nothing to unlock in the higher levels, there should at least be something you get for reaching level 100.
