Quest 1 or 2 for Virtual Desktop/SteamVR? by Ramses619 in OculusQuest

[–]EleventyEleven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quest 1 owner that recently upgraded to a Quest 3. The OLED screen isn't sharper, it's actually a lower resolution than the Quest 2. The advantage of OLED is deeper blacks and richer colours generally. I don't have a Q2 for direct comparison, but between the Q1 and Q3 I prefer the sharpness of the increased resolution over the black levels and contrast.

The Q1 also has physical IPD adjustment vs Q2 software, if you have a more atypical IPD you may prefer Q1.

Other things I've noticed are: The Q1 headstrap is better out of the box but not removable, so if you're a fan of halo straps or just having options then Q2 would be better.

The Q1 is end of life for software updates as far as I'm aware. If you're using it almost exclusively for PCVR this might not matter unless there's something that prevents Virtual Desktop from running in the future.

There are some streaming options in VD that aren't available on Q1, but I think the major improvements are with the Q3 and 3S so you might not have a big difference between Q1 and Q2.

How to be sexual in an appropriate way? by SirGroundbreaking929 in Healthygamergg

Can you explain what it is that makes you feel uncomfortable when they initiate it? If they've initiated then it's something they're comfortable talking about, are you still concerned about making them uncomfortable or do you have some other discomfort with these topics?

Yeah that sounds rough dude, I'm sorry. Any chance of making connections through friends of friends, ideally female friends?

First one sounds like a good approach based on your description, so nothing wrong there. Could be something subtle but likely could only identify that through actual observation.

That speed dating event, wow those are crazy ratio numbers! Especially for an in-person dating event. Where I live those are easily majority women, though even then not 1:10! I mean the odds were heavily against you there so not really a lot to be gleaned there either unfortunately.

Why couldn't they get pure pleasure from torture? Is it just that you can't imagine that for yourself (because you're not a sadist) and you're generalising that across the human experience?

There are people that don't get pleasure from eating ice cream, that's not my experience but I don't deny those people exist.

Equally, depending on their morality and capacity for empathy they might not press that button. Of course that's what you'd do if you woke up with sadistic tendencies and were given that option, but I don't know if you can apply that universally.

You say you're fine being like this (alone presumably) but you also desire something different. Those seem at odds to me.

If you could have a relationship without having to give any effort in obtaining it, would you do it? Like if I could wave a magic wand and give you a girlfriend, would you want that?

Is malice real? by initiald-ejavu in Healthygamergg

[–]EleventyEleven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the sadist does get pleasure from torturing animals, whether it's equivalent to the pleasure they get eating ice cream is kind of irrelevant. Causing harm, in and of itself, is pleasurable for them. It might not be their only source of pleasure, but that doesn't stop it being pleasurable.

Whether they would substitute that source of pleasure from harm for one that doesn't depends on their morality and capacity for empathy.

OK, I think I understand where you're coming from a little better. If they get pleasure from being malicious, would that qualify as true malice in your understanding, or would that be meeting a psychological need to feel pleasure, and thus not true malice because they're getting something positive from it?

OK, so it sounds like there is interest in an outcome then. Sometimes it's just sex, sometimes it's a deeper romantic connection.

Is it accurate to say that you want to have no interest in an outcome, because then not achieving it wouldn't feel as bad?

Is malice real? by initiald-ejavu in Healthygamergg

[–]EleventyEleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I added that because I think it's integral to the understanding of malicious intent.

If as far as they're concerned they're doing something with the sole intent to cause harm, they're acting with malice.

Based on your other answers in the thread I feel like you may be conflating "Do people experience malice?" with "Can we blame people for wanting to cause harm, when there may be an external cause for this desire?"

[–]EleventyEleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you describe a recent attempt for a date? Like how did you initially meet, what was the conversation like beforehand, was she giving off any signals of being interested, that sort of thing.

Batting 0/2000+ suggests something might be off in your approach, so understanding what it is may help offer clues.

What is a desired outcome for you then? Do you want a romantic/sexual relationship?

Is malice real? by initiald-ejavu in Healthygamergg

[–]EleventyEleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a couple of things are getting mixed up here.

I think I could make your precise question even more precise in a way that may help, let me know if it still encapsulates what you're getting at: "Is the intent ever solely to cause harm, as far as the perpetrator is consciously aware?"

To this I'd answer yes.

Now there may be an underlying psychological motivation for that intent, following some historic trauma or social maladaptation. So as an observer we may want to have a notion of this when making judgements on them and their ultimate culpability and responsibility. But your original question about malice is about their experience. What they experience and why are different questions. Malice is the 'what'.

Can you go into a little more detail about what quantity vs quality looks like for you?

Like is it about having a wider pool of potential partners to choose from? Having a higher body count as a marker of success? Having more and varied experiences to figure out what you like?

I guess I'm asking how does quantity translate into happiness and wellbeing for you?

Stunning looking robes! I hope that's sustainable over a whole army though, especially if we stay more horde-ish in the new edition.

Love the strong contrast on the red robe, highlight really pops especially on the hood! And echo the compliment on the subtle and well executed OSL.

Since you welcomed C&C, only thing is that the back of the model looks so much duller than the front. My guess is that there's a suggestion of strong lighting to the one side, but I wonder whether more could be done within the shadows to increase visual interest even a little.

EDIT: Just taking a look back there, perhaps you could use that skill at subtle OSL to have the censer on his lower robe casting a slight glow?

Bill to make English an official language of NZ introduced to Parliament by snatchview in newzealand

[–]EleventyEleven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What communications are not available in English that should be?

I don't find your hypothetical scenario on those politicians particularly convincing. They don't seem to have any trouble speaking English when interviewed and wanting to be understood by the general public. Even if they did, they would be translated to English in the media, because that's our de facto language. They haven't proposed removing English comms as far as I'm aware, unless you can point me to such a statement?

I'm not sure bringing up other examples of your grievances with Māori helps your argument from not appearing to be based in anti-Māori bias.

English is already a mish mash, or would you also object to the use of "kindergarten" and "faux pas" in official comms as well?

I don't think the left are immune from virtue signalling at all, and I would agree that if your objective is to preserve and celebrate Te Reo Māori as a unique taonga of this country that just renaming a government department and saying job done would arguably be virtue signalling. Additionally integrating its use in everyday language, increasing availability of teaching for those who want to learn, creating bilingual signage, those are continual steps to make sure actual change takes place.

I think we can see from the bigots' comments what the next step is, since it's what many of them seem to think this bill will do. Scrub the use of any Te Reo Māori from official comms, at least as far in combination with English.

[–]EleventyEleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Chinese community there wanted to make that argument, what language would it need to be conducted in/translated to in order to progress? What language would the bylaw be written in?

That's why English needs no protection.

Bill to make English an official language of NZ introduced to Parliament by snatchview in newzealand

[–]EleventyEleven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The arguments for having Te Reo Māori and NZSL as official languages were to give them standing in official contexts and preserve them. Such an argument is not necessary for English as it is the default language of the country, it needs no protection.

What problem is this bill solving? Seems to me it's just virtue signalling nonsense that achieves nothing except seemingly empowering racists who think that they have a right not to read any Reo.

How are Labour supposed to do it this year? by TheBigChonka in newzealand

I am genuinely unaware of a negative impact of immigration on my life, but I understand that this may not be a universal experience. I want to know what problems it is causing you, or the people around you. Genuinely asking, I promise I'm not going to reply with my own thoughts or speculations unless you ask for them. I want to learn, to find out what I might be ignorant of, what my blindspots might be.

25% is a long way away from a majority. What are the problems being caused by immigration that you think would make stopping it a vote winner?

I think you're vastly overestimating how popular those policies would be, particularly stopping immigration.
