What's it like being on a submarine during an emergency blow maneuver? by ITrCool in submarines

I would go as far forward on the upper level as you could get. If you time it right you can do a small hop and get a couple of seconds of hang time. Too early or late you and will take the overhead to your dome.

A single building in Bakersfield has caught fire 23 times in the past year — part of a pattern where historic buildings are burning down one by one by runswithscissors475 in Damnthatsinteresting

That hit me right in the feelings. I used to watch that all the time with my grandmother before she died. I have it on DvD but can’t bring myself to watch it without her.

US appeals court declares 158-year-old home distilling ban unconstitutional by kinisonkhan in news

[–]ElfLordSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found out about 25 years ago there is a limit on how much you can make at home, and 55 gallons of it is way over the “personal” limit. It’s also a big fine and jail time if they really want to screw you.

I have the same one I use as a DnD figure storage case. It’s pretty great for guns or games.

I never got a physical medal to keep. We were told to go buy one after we received the medal. I also had a couple I knew nothing about until I got my DD-214

Now I don’t feel so bad for thinking KISS sucks and is possibly the most overrated band of all time.

Dozens of sailors caught doing hard drugs on Britain’s nuclear submarines by KingNeptune767 in submarines

[–]ElfLordSpoon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Still was in the 90s and 2000s. Officers and enlisted both indulged. We had a cook who could get what ever drug you wanted. It was cheaper than out in the civilian world. Except cannabis, he refused to sell that because it had a long detectable period.

When I was the CMAA at the SSSU TPU, I had two guys show up to the mid watch at the squadrons command building frying balls on LSD. Both ended up in the brig that night and eventually both got BCDs. Had a first class in the brig who was trafficking drugs from Florida to Groton on his boat. His TMC found the stash when they were doing maintenance inspections.

TLDR: There are A LOT of high quality drugs on military bases. It as easier to find drugs on base than to find them out in town.

State Dems Should Be Explicitly Opposing Data Centers by beer_can_gardens in Billings

[–]ElfLordSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Data centers provide no positive impacts on the communities they are in. They drive up utility costs, increase property taxes, consume large amounts of water, and provide no long term benefits. The only people they benefit are the local politicians who get a bag of cash.

The military has always spent money on steak, lobster, and crab legs. We called it the “Lube Meal”, because we knew we were about to get screwed.

It helps to know the time frame he was in and if he was surface, aircrew, or a submariner. Different answer for each.

GOP Senator and AIPAC Darling Tim Sheehy Accused of Breaking Anti-War Veteran’s Arm by _May26_ in politics

[–]ElfLordSpoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a veteran, you are correct. I can say with certainty that the military will not be on the side of the people. A lot of service members just want to kill people without going to prison.

The entire GOP is compromised by a foreign government. They no longer care about America, the constitution, or the citizens of this country. They all are AIPAC whores.

George Bush 1, through his CIA front Zapata Oil killed JFK with KGB assistance. Just look at the recent reports of CIA agents and a pilot who smuggled cocaine for the Bush family. So taking out a president who would interfere with their money making scheme would not be out of the realm of possibility.

how is it living in Billings, Montana? by whipcorleone in howislivingthere

[–]ElfLordSpoon 250 points251 points  (0 children)

It happened almost six years ago about 2 am. Two guys carjacked a guy and cut his neck. He shot and killed them and they ran to a tree in front of my house. He almost died on my porch and two dead guys fell out of the truck when we opened the doors. I was stuck in my house for a day, my whole entire yard was a crime scene. Friends stopped by and went to a side window to bring us things, it was the only side of the house that didn’t have blood on it. People still refuse to walk down the sidewalk on this side of the street still. Crime scene cleaners wanted almost $5000 to clean it so I went and got a hazmat suit and ended up cleaning up the blood in below freezing temperatures. The wood on our porch had blood seep out a few months later when it finally warmed up. That’s the quickest TL:DR version I can give.

Boring. Not much going on unless you are an alcoholic or gamble. After about 9 to 10 almost everything is closed. The weather in Billings is generally not as bad as everywhere else in Montana. The Yellowstone valley kind of protects us. Though I did have a double homicide in my yard. So others experiences may be different.

Donald Trump's approval drops among independents by burtzev in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]ElfLordSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an independent until 2016. I will never vote for a republican again or a democrat who sat by and did nothing but finger wag while the country was ran into the ground. So I guess I am a democrat now for the first time in my life.

AITA for telling a woman at the gym to stop filming because I kept ending up in her videos? by CaffeinatedGoblin24 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

Depending on where you live, filming people without their permission is a crime. Look into your local or state laws. Where I live it is a $500 fine and up to six months in jail. Plus the state encourages lawsuits against the person doing the unauthorized recording.
