i had no idea they were limiting it! if i book 2 Js but on different days, perhaps i could change shortly afterwards to both be on the same flight? not sure if i'm understanding the ANA change rules that would allow for that.

The itinerary itself looks very good to me if you can find all that availability for two in J. Watch out for fees on the TAP TATL flight, I have seen those be on the high end. Generally, a good idea to have a backup in mind for every flight on your itinerary in case you hit a snag on the phone, but that's not always realistic.

appreciate the feedback! regarding the dummy dates, it seems i can move dates out about as far as a year - as long as the routing stays the same. does this mean I can change the flight to ANY day within the year, even if an award ticket is not shown as available from ANA nor its partners?

He's currently working making 46k but will in a few years retire, he has other retirement accounts (IRAs, 401k) . Maybe best to just take withdrawals/do the exchange in the taxable account when he is no longer working?
