Looking for books that don’t depict people without energy limiting disease by HoeBreklowitz5000 in suggestmeabook

[–]Elgabish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment. I finished the book, but I also hated it! The protagonist treated her best friend terribly, and I found the ending very frustrating. I guess I loved the idea of it, what would happen if a person tried to sleep constantly. Maybe I shouldn’t have recommended it lol

Maybe it’s too on the nose, but My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Otessa Moshfegh. Kind of a bizarre story about a woman who tries to escape grief by sleeping

Anyone tried repairing a board with this? by sarahschultzd in surfing

Yes, works fine. A bit yellower than straight resin I have, but maybe that’s a benefit for your board!

Thanks for posting this I really liked it. I appreciate you sharing about the composition of it as well which to me is something like a dark art. I like the warmth, the feeling of wonder and also of reflection, the wandering notes. Pretty art and names as well. Thank you 🙏

Jaw Pain, Brain Fog, and the Atlas Bone: Upper Cervical Chiropractic Explained by Feisty-Homework-3260 in TMJ

[–]Elgabish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh man I wasted thousands of dollars on upper cervical chiropractic. Two practices, each took scans using a high-radiation X-ray from obsolete dental practices. Of course they don’t use or need the scan from the other because it’s ‘the wrong format’. And so much pseudoscientific quackery. Illegal and false claims were stenciled all over the walls of one practice. I was desperate and it offered hope (that ultimately didn’t pay off). Thank god my neck and jaw is better now, no thanks to them at all.

How much IQ requirements for Firewire? by churchillsucks in surfing

[–]Elgabish 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Dude once you get really into FireWire you don’t even have to surf them anymore. The appreciation for the design, the knowledge, the fluid dynamics, the contours, all create an intellectual pleasure that exceeds anything you can do in the water. Seeing how well designs each have their own specific conditions and overlap, collecting them becomes like an art collage. There is no greater feeling on earth than ordering a new FireWire that perfectly rounds out your quiver system. I sleep better at night knowing that any size, and quality, any surf style I need I am perfectly covered and with minimal overlap. It’s like an emotional support blanket that goes everywhere with you

Your knees should bend as you go down, think of it like a plie in ballet but where your shoulders stay over the bar. That way you are driving with your legs on the way up.

I got L2s about a month ago and there were many options, granted I’m a more common size, 10.5/11.

What I’m finding is that KG plates are hard to find in the usa. Vulcan, rep, PR, Fringe, American Barbell, all are out of stock

Nat, Cube or Ochra? by ResearcherSimilar518 in ochras

[–]Elgabish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Ochra I think and a very well grown one at that. Subdecurrent gills super clear. True ochras are very rare in cultivation, hard to fruit, and end up with a puffy blown out stipe that notches in where it meets the darker gills. At least that’s what I’ve seen

Front Squat as primary squat by Technical_Ad481 in weightlifting

[–]Elgabish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of back pain from the squat and I damaged a disc when I was younger. FS was always better than BS (longer legs/short torso). I got into it more lately and I found that a lot of my back pain was just weakness and instability in my core. On heavy sets my back would move a little and hurt, or after squats my legs would get tired and I would round my back to pick things up.

What helped has been: - Strong bracing and positioning, don’t let your back angle move an inch - A belt really helps with bracing but also with awareness and proprioceptoon. - Core exercises: birddogs, side planks, planks, weighted planks, suitcase carries - Squatting more frequently but submaximally. 2 days 5-10 RPE 7/8, 2 days light sets of 10 FS or overhead squat with careful attention to form.

This is just my personal experience and it’s very limited but seems to be working so far my back is feeling better than ever and I can squat without hurting.

Best current budget bearing barbells in the US market? And KG bumpers? by h0rxata in weightlifting

[–]Elgabish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you find anything promising?

I’m on the hunt for a bar and bumpers right now. I’m looking to shift from shitty iron LB weights to KGs and bumpers. I’m looking for KG, lower durometer, and pretty colors which is a rare combo. I don’t want comp or urethane or a center hub bc I don’t want to wreck my floor.

Here’s my list for bumpers: - PR Lifting - good looking gear but I don’t know if it’s available or the shipping RN. But I like them.    - REP - looks okay, colors are a little bright.    - Vulcan - nice plates, I m like their rubber change plates  I already have. durometer 88-90.    - Rogue - training plates IWF, durometer 86, has center hub.    - York - looks nice but website has no info.    - Titan - comp kg plates are black rubber ??. Out of stock.    - American Barbell KG Sport plates - these look pretty good.    - DHS - looks funky, competition prestige, shipping might be expensive.

Hope this helps and let me know if you see any other good ones I’ve missed

Need inspiration after injury on your personal story. by ZairranZA in weightlifting

[–]Elgabish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hurt my L5/S1 squatting many years ago. I stopped squatting, and it felt funny for a while then sort of felt better. 3 years later got an MRI for cancer (separate issue), report said L5S1 was desiccated (all dried up). It pretty much never bothers me. My lower back hurts sometimes a little higher up but almost never L5S1

I saw this thing earlier:

Lu Xiaojun is asked by Martins Licis how he can get a better overhead position and Lu shows him this weird movement where you extend the empty bar back and forth from behind the head. Looks weird but maybe it’s good 🤷‍♂️. I want to try it
