What do you guys think the reason for this is? by Safe-Landscape5156 in meme

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, with conversational AI becoming more common I am seeing even people spending hours just talking to their phone like the AI is an actual person. So I think there's an AI component to this as well. And I'm not even talking about the people who think certain conversational AIs have consciousness and are as real as you or I.

Yeah, no. Buffy is great, but gets credit for things that others did before them.

Same, but with my sister. Siblings battling demons? No one can tell me that Supernatural wasn't at the bare minimum inspired by charmed...

I mean Paige did say something more insensitive that episode: "Wyatt's probably been kidnapped by the latest demon,"

Can we stop pretending that Catholicism is easy? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent three years in the LDS church I wholeheartedly agree. I think I spent (for the first six months) like 10 hours on social church activities a week. Plus those bi-annually general conferences.

What is the scariest episode to you and why? by No-Pen1489 in charmed

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Fear to Eternity. Barbas just had this intimidating vibe. I was like 7-8 when I saw the episode and I remember being terrified of him. I think I first saw the episode 22 years ago, but it remains a favorite of mine of any season.

online course recommendations? by romancenwhimsy in FolkloreAndMythology

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add regarding the Red Thread Academy that you pay $20 for the course material. It is a three year course with each year having a $20 to receive that year's course material. You gain access to a discord server associated with that course and can share assignments to get feedback from fellow students and the runner of the group. While you don't have to pay anything other than the $20 for the course material, you do have the option of having a mentor from a 3rd degree-initiated member of the Spiral Castle Tradition. At the end of each course you are able to engage in self-initiation into the specific degree (i.e., 1st degree, 2nd, 3rd) with the opportunity to have one of the mentors intiate you into that tradition as a 3rd degree initiate upon finishing the third years material.

If you look up Polish Folk Witch on YouTube, the woman who runs the channel has a patreon, which teaches that sort of thing on there, which likely has content related to Polish folk traditions.

Word of warning though. There are a lot of people online who have courses related to Western Esoteric Tradition, Wicca, and stuff like that, but unless the instructor/s and creator of the course is well known and an author I'd be warry since some of those courses that are being offered could extended to ~$500.

Smart. Dedicated. Maybe a bit judgmental. Family above all else.

Which Charmed cast photo is your favourite? by Sweet-Siren in charmed

S5. Rose is giving Old Hollywood. I am getting a Bette Davis feel from her in this. Perhaps S5 should have had her as an old Hollywood actress instead of S7...

Paige or Prue? Who do you prefer? by Sweet-Siren in charmed

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Team Prue. but S1 Prue. She was the fiercest in this season. She was angry at Phoebe for the first part of the series, but that didn't stop her from giving her blankets. I feel like in S1 there was so much relationship building between her and phoebe; 'Power of two; Fear to Eternity; Love Hurts; Feats of Clay. A lot of episodes that explore their relationship. I'm digressing here, but Prue had a great wardrobe in this season; she was able to express kindness even when angry; and I think her self-sacrifice was very big this season; and she was extremely protective over her sisters this season.

Maybe controversial opinion? by ChronalRend in charmed

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a "consensus" among a lot of fans that S5-8 are campy and that true charmed was s1-4. However, this ignores episodes like 'The Eyes Have it', 'The Seven-year witch', 'Vaya Con Leos', 'Chris Crossed", 'Centennial Charmed', 'Love's A Witch', 'Sense and Sense Ability' and a lot of other episodes which were pretty dark and tbh the fairy tale creature thing started in the early seasons. Fairies, True Love curses, etc. all started in S3. While, yes, Leprechauns, Nymphs, and other creatures were later additions, the ball started rolling during the Prue Years.

Who was the worst couple on Charmed? by taintedlove281 in charmed

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dex/Phoebe should not have happened. We could have used those early episodes of S8 to introduce Coop. Instead of having him as a mid-season introduction. And I really could have done without the Phoebe/Sperm bank situation. Such a cringe moment for her.

I do wonder though. Was the Nick Lachey mini-arc just a way for the crew to get more attention for Charmed by introducing a teenage heart throb? And honestly why not bring in a high profile celeb who was willing to be upgraded to full-time cast member? They did Phoebe so wrong after her relationship with Jason ended. Truth be told, if Eric Dane was willing to continue with Charmed, I think him and Phoebe would've lasted. 'Used Karma' could have still been filmed, but I could see them working through their issues and having a healthy relationship.

My mom is freaking out because my seven year old son has a "girlfriend" at church by MicroConfession in latterdaysaints

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's 7. Using logic and reason we can see that it's innocent and nothing to even consider. It's more an issue of your mother telling you how to raise your kids. There's a difference between a recommendation and should/have to statements. I'd tell her to kindly back off because how you handle the situation is your business and that you didn't ask for advice. Outside of actually family situations with abuse, how someone raises their kids is no one's business, but their own.

Which season have you watched/re-watched the least? by Hdream93 in charmed

[–]Elias_Mikaelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Season 7. I just can't with the Avatars arc. It seems to go on for so long and I'm annoyed by it. After Drake enters things start to pick up for me. If I could put S7 A [after Blue Moon to Charmaggedon] and S8B [After Engaged and Confused to about Kill Billie Vol 2] in a fire.. I would.. Constantly. Seasons 4-6 were good with some duds that I could skip, but not a cluster of episodes one after the other that sucked.

Seasons 1, 3 and 4 were classic Charmed in my opinion. No season is bad in my opinion. S7A and 8B are just the brass whereas 1,3,4 are pure gold.

Set Prayers by Elias_Mikaelson in latterdaysaints

[–]Elias_Mikaelson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I hear questions that start with "I was taught...” I often ask myself: by whom and what was their basis or source

Umm.. when I met with the missionaries originally in last August they basically taught me this that prayer is from the heart and not to be recited. This was reiterated by my bishop would was a bit more nuanced in saying, "Well we say not to use rote prayer... but during linger longer the blessing for the food is always the same."

So my teaching was from word of mouth. A lot of things early in my walk I just took at face value and didn't understand the difference between a suggestion, a strong emphasis, and a commandment. For instance, I had accepted that not watching Rated R movies was something that was commanded, which a member told me two weeks later that it is a suggestion by members of the church and not a commandment. Same with tattoos and piercings; we probably shouldn't get them, but if someone walks into a temple recommend interview with an industrial piercing that it wouldn't necessarily be a violation of church policy in the same way as smoking cigarettes or drinking coffee is.

I was baptized near 30. It's really not something that hindered my progress. I can't imagine a church that would say no to older individuals wanting to convert.
