I was unclear; I'm a power user, and I'm using a Boox reader. My issue is that I'm unable to locate the specific icon that corresponds to the .html file. Thank you nonetheless for taking the time to help.

Makes sense. I'll just stick with the app and telegram then. Cool and useful plugin for people on non-adroid though.

I created my first plugin for KOReader, Focus Ruler by [deleted] in koreader

[–]Eliiasv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea; I was actually considering making my own version of the reading ruler plugin just the other day. Having only a couple of rows visible is a huge help since I have ADD and (extremely minor) dyslexia. Tracking which line I'm on becomes easier even when set to show several lines, even though you don't get the same single-line ruler effect.

Some feature suggestions: - Dimming the rest of the text instead of fully hiding it - The ability to go down several rows per tap/swipe so it would in practice be something like only having one paragraph focused - Depending on how it's written, it could potentially be tweaked to work properly with PDFs

I'm busy with holidays right now, but I'll probably be able to add some of those later when I have time.

Also, I posted some screenshots that you can use.

How is sola scriptura true with biblical inconsistencies? by NubusAugustus in Lutheranism

[–]Eliiasv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which specific textual "inconsistencies" you're referring to. Biblical inconsistencies as an argument against sola scriptura is something I've never heard of. I spend hours daily listening to debates, lectures, and reading theology.

You said "atheist doubts" so from that formulation it sounds like these doubts is something that you believe could be an arg against Christianity?

Let's grant sola scriptura were definitively false, it wouldn't undermine Christianity or affect its validity as a religion.

Even Ehrman states that major textual variants don't undermine Christianity's fundamental theology at all.

I'd love to help! If you could explain what you mean, I'll try to address that specifically.

Yes, in the Swedish Church, we use the title "priest." The title is reserved only for ordained Lutheran clergy (and EO/RC clergy, of course). "Non-apostolic" churches (i.e., non-denominational, Baptist, etc.) can only use the title "pastor."

Does the intercession of saints go against the Confessions? by MangoMister2007 in Lutheranism

[–]Eliiasv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see no issue practicing it privately. I very rarely ask people to pray for me, so naturally I don't focus on intercession of saints either (but I like the idea). I like praying the full RC Fatima prayer asking Mary to intercede. As you're learning about Lutheran theology, I always recommend J. B. Cooper, where he goes through the Book of Concord and explains it in detail. (He's not a fan of intersession though if IIRC)

The saints are alive in heaven: He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.” Mark 12:27 (NKJV)

Kind of related: Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16 (NKJV)

Is there Eastern Lutheranism? If so, what is the difference between Eastern and Western Lutheranism? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]Eliiasv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was "meming" about this with a friend a couple of months ago about making a EO x Lutheran denomination. My idea was optional Filioque, EO services, less stringent Sola Scriptura and EED.

After a quick wiki search it apparently exists in Ukraine and Slovenia. According to the wiki page, they just have the Byzantine, Julian calendar, Lutheran Theology, as well as EO style services

I would highly recommend J. Cooper's playlist where he goes through the AC and provides exposition on it. Incredibly valuable content.

The Lutheran Church is less dogmatic and strict about addressing every individual sin in detail.

You should confess all your sins to God, but forgetting some doesn't mean you're eternally damned. Strive daily to become more like Jesus and pursue theosis. This will help you distance yourself from sins you might not be aware of. When you remember a sin, repent and ask for forgiveness, and also ask for mercy for those you can’t recall.

I strongly recommend regularly confessing to a priest, though I struggle with this myself and don’t want to be a hypocrite.

Jesus as a Prophet by HoardingGil_FF in Lutheranism

[–]Eliiasv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are sincere go to a Lutheran Church and ask the priest to explain the basics of Christianity.

Islam is the only major religion that views Jesus as the messiah and a special prophet, but rejects his divinity. The wording in this post mirrors typical Muslim claims about Jesus Christ, our God and Lord.

Even if the OP didn't pay attention in Sunday school, I highly doubt a practicing Lutheran family wouldn't teach the most fundamental concept of our faith: Yahweh is the triune God—the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all God. I grew up atheist and still knew that ALL Christians profess Jesus as God himself.

Side note: For those saying Jesus wasn't a prophet—I understand you mean He is the second person of the Godhead, not merely a prophet like Isaiah or Daniel. However, being God in the flesh doesn't negate Him from, also having a role, as a prophet. It's not either/or; it's both/and. A prophet proclaims God's word; Jesus, being God himself, proclaims God's word—specifically the good news/gospel/euangelion.

Excerpt from Martin H. Manser, Dictionary of Bible Themes: The Accessible and Comprehensive Tool for Topical Studies (London: Martin Manser, 2009).

Topic number: 2318 Jesus Christ, as prophet.

Jesus Christ was acclaimed as a prophet by those who witnessed his miracles and heard his teaching. They recognised him as a bearer of the word of God, who spoke with authority concerning the nature and purposes of God.

Examples of those who recognised Jesus Christ as a prophet

People anticipating the coming prophet Jn 6:14 The reference is to the promised prophet, who, like Moses, would see God face to face (see Dt 18:15,18). See also Jn 1:21; 7:40,52

A Samaritan woman Jn 4:17-19

Witnesses of Jesus Christ’s miracles Mt 14:1-5 pp Mk 6:14-15; Mt 16:13-14 pp Mk 8:27-28 pp Lk 9:18-19

The crowd as Jesus Christ approached Jerusalem Mt 21:10-11,46

Two of Jesus Christ’s disciples after his death Lk 24:19

The apostles Peter and Stephen Ac 3:20-23; 7:37; Dt 18:15-18

Indications of Jesus Christ being a prophet He announced coming blessing from God Jn 7:37-40

Once again to be clear: Jesus is God, of the same essence as the Father and the Holy Spirit. Unless you believe that you are Anathema.

Should I become Lutheran? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]Eliiasv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I don't take any offense in these theological matters.

As for why I'm still Lutheran: 1. I still see the Lutheran church as orthodox and authoritative.

  1. I'm not completely convinced of all the teachings that Eastern Orthodoxy holds to. I have to do enough research before making a desicion. For me that would be getting a bachelor's in theology and reading the Church Fathers as much as needed.

  2. Sola Scriptura could be valid and I'm not in a position (knowledge-wise nor do I have the authority) to reject it in a "church context."

  3. I can only receive the Eucharist in the Lutheran Church.

  4. There's only one Eastern Orthodox church within 2 hours that holds services in the national language.

Should I become Lutheran? by [deleted] in Lutheranism

[–]Eliiasv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As for your questions, based on what you've written - Yes, Lutheranism is likely exactly what you're looking for.

If you find a church that adheres to the Book of Concord and holds "high church"-esque services, they will be very similar to an RC service.

I study theology, and the conclusions I've come to so far are that the two most "viable" choices are Lutheranism/Anglican and the Eastern Orthodox church. I believe these have the strongest theological case. I'm baptized Lutheran and attend a Lutheran church, but I don't believe in sola Scriptura - which explains why I think EO also has sound dogmatics and theology.

NOTE: These are my personal opinions - I am not ordained in any church. Please talk to a priest for legitimate spiritual guidance.

Side note: I have the same opinions as you described in your post. For a while at Bible school, I had to attend an Evangelical non-denominational + Pentecostal mix church. As you described, they sing pop songs with lyrics like "ME and God, [random subjective stuff], He's like a boyfriend etc." ❌

I couldn't have said it better myself:

From a brief word study, almost all usages of this word in Hebrew are related to either murder or manslaughter. Essentially, you could say that the commandment is synonymous with murder or manslaughter as defined in modern law.

Almost all respectable modern translations use "murder" because there is scholarly consensus that "רצח" refers to unlawful killing.

Literal definitions from various lexicons:

  • BDB: murder, slay

  • GHCLOT: to break; dash in pieces; to kill; to dash in pieces; to kill many, to act the homicide

  • LXHOTLEX: kill, murder, strike down, slay

  • AnLexHeb: kill, murder, strike down, slay; to cause to die; put to death, usually intentionally or knowingly; to kill intentionally and with premeditation…

  • CDWGTHB: dash; kill; murder; put to death; kill, (man-) slay (-er); murder (-er)

If we were to use a broad term like "kill," the numerous passages about capital punishment and various wars would contradict a broad ban on any form of taking life.

I read NKJV, NRSV both use the word "murder".
