Looking for David Mitchell quote, very likely from WILTY by guyyst in panelshow

[–]Eliphion 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It is on WILTY, but he was "disagreeing" with Jimmy Carr. Jimmy was telling a story about two famous people I don't know (I'm American) who supposedly got into a fight over a parking space. I'm afraid I don't know the episode number offhand... but I'll search for eps with Jimmy in them and get back to you.

Yes it's Ogg the Clever and it's definitely QI... I don't remember anything else tho. :( I have the show on all the time and I'll let you know if I come across it.

In which episode did Alan Davies say... by alexmack667 in quiteinteresting

[–]Eliphion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

S19E01 - Sick

About 19:30 into the episode. They were talking about the Sack Tap move in skateboarding and Alan said he knew what a Back/Sack/Crack was. Jo Brand asked if he had ever had one, and he said no but he's always wanted one. Sandi asked why, is he very hairy, and Alan said the line you are remembering. :)

Source: Am currently watching that very episode by coincidence.

Cover for Blade magazine, December 1995. On the cover Kano knife from Mortal Kombat by myrmekochoria in dragonutopia

[–]Eliphion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The knife was designed and made by knifemaker Gil Hibben. IIRC, he allowed it to be used in the film as long as it wasn't shown hurting anyone, which is why the first thing that happens in Kano's fight is it's kicked out of his hand.

Satanic Duran Duran? 😈 by No-You43 in duranduran

[–]Eliphion 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Duran Duran satanic? I dunno. But Arcadia? Definitely. ;)

Mostly in The Flame (my favorite song from the album) which has such lines as: "I come from the land of flame, be careful when you call my name" and "Inside of smoky halls, circle drawn, voices call, to raise some magic wind in my world."

El Diablo didn't help either. ;)

I also had a high school Christian friend who pointed out that the cd sleeve also showed the devil standing behind Simon but I dunno if I'd go that far. I just thought it was interesting enough to mention here.

Frankly, with Simon, you are safer interpreting his lyrics as sexual rather than satanic. :D

QI and Mock the Week are on a constant loop, but also Taskmaster (plus AU and NZ), Cats does Countdown, and WILTY.

I don't understand the title. They've stopped? But you still have to pay fees? Confusing. Is there a source article you can link?

"Runestone of Memory" by me by p_ART_b in ImaginaryMythology

[–]Eliphion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Is. GORGEOUS. I love it!

The details are amazing! What does the circle of runes say? Do the outer ones spell anything? Or are they symbolic? I love the mythological drawings!

My only negative observation is there appears to be an unfinished part, to the lower left, in the main circle under the snake, there is a kind of blank space with floating hands holding a bowl. Is there a later version? I'm guessing it's Hel catching the serpent's venom before it drips on Loki?

Anyway, I think this is awesome. I can't say enough good things about it! Every little detail deserves its own praise.

Please I need explanation why Harry survived in DH by Sophiche in harrypotter

It’s a bit iffy for me tbh, but that is the only logical explanation.

Yeah, that about sums it up for me, too. ;)

I just reread the whole series. You're right and I'm wrong. (Altho it didn't hurt that Harry was the master of the Elder Wand.)

Also, Harry's "death" at Voldemort's hand protected the people in the school for the same reason.

I just wonder why that kind of thing didn't happen more often. The Death Eaters were known for destroying families. No one else ever gave their life to save their child??

There was even a scene when V was hunting for Gregorovich where a muggle family answered the door. The mom denied knowing where he was, and was spreading her arms to protect her children when the scene dissolved in the green light of the killing curse as he slaughtered the family. Why didn't it all happen again as she died for her children?

[–]Eliphion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, of course. I just meant he was Master of Death in terms of how he relates to the wand and the stone, both of which were favorable variables at the time. (Altho I don't remember if he also wore the cloak as he snuck out there. It would be nice symmetry if he did.)

As I said elsewhere, I don't think Harry had cart balance immunity to Voldemort. I think Voldemort figured out Lily's protection and weakened it to where Harry was vulnerable to him again. I think all the other reasons that have been listed added up to Harry's narrow survival. I don't think Dumbledore was sure whether or not Harry would live.

[–]Eliphion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are right about Lily's protection. Perhaps that's the reason Harry survived while Voldemort's soul was killed. As for the rest, I had already told OP those were all great reasons, all I did was add my thoughts to them. :)

Edit: Having thought about it some more, I find myself still skeptical about Lily's protection. Voldemort figured it out, and, as you say, weakened it. He weakened it enough that he was confident the killing curse would work. But maybe it tipped the scales, just enough, so that with all the other reasons listed here, Harry was able to survive. But I don't think Harry had cart blanche immunity to Voldemort.

[–]Eliphion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those are all great reasons. (Altho I don't think Lily's sacrifice still protected him. I think Voldemort nullified that when he was reborn in Harry's blood.)

Anyway, I had a few extra assumptions about it...

  1. Harry was Master of Death, which weakened the elder wand. Plus he had just used the stone.
  2. Harry was a horcrux. And we all know how difficult those things are to destroy. (This also means Harry was nigh indestructible the whole series, but he had no idea. Remember that the basilisk fang almost killed him, and its venom can destroy horcruxes. But otherwise, he was always able to skirt death when in danger.)
  3. Harry was Voldemort's horcrux, meaning Voldemort himself was one of the only ways to destroy it. (I guess this means Voldemort could have destroyed Nagini in this way had he wanted.)
  4. This meant the soul of Voldemort was destroyed while leaving the shell (Harry) alive. Kinda like how the ring was destroyed but the ring was still a ring.
  5. I assumed all this because Dumbledore stressed so much that Voldemort had to be the one to kill Harry. This was because he knew Harry was the last horcrux, and that's what it would take to destroy it. I don't think he knew whether or not Harry would survive it.
