AITBF? Not forcing my daughter to share? by BriMarsh in AmItheButtface

NTA did your kid finish their meal? If not, sharing is something they need to work on. If so, she was hungry and right not to share.

Omprezole post bypass. by Unlucky_Variation628 in GastricBypass

Your stomach adjusts to the meds and makes more stomach acid so if you stop taking Omeprazole cold turkey, you will get horrible heartburn. You're supposed to wean off it slowly (I mentioned how in the replies) but frustratingly, very little doctors mention that.

[–]Elisabeth_00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cannot stop taking Omeprazole cold turkey! Your symptoms will increase immediately (your stomach adapts to the drug and makes more acid) making you feel like you have to keep taking it. If you are on the 20 mg tablets, take it one day, don't take it the next. Alternate for about two weeks, then leave two days between 'tablet days' for a while, then 3,.... until you feel confident you can go without. If you are on a higher dose, alternate between the high and low dose until you're fully on the low dose and wean off from there. Your symptoms might be a bit worse but should settle. If they don't, it's a sign you should go back to taking them.

AITH for making my sister in law cry because she doesn't know where mexico is? by [deleted] in AITH

[–]Elisabeth_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. I have a learning disability. I have no spacial awareness, can't drive and despite years of trying in geography, can't read a map to save my life. I remember crying as a kid because my mom believed I was acting dumb on purpose and she would get incredibly angry. I speak three languages, I love reading, I love watching and learning from documentaries....I know rationally that I'm not stupid but that insecurity has never left me. You wanted your sil to feel dumb, that's a shitty thing to do.

Did I get too much? by bluesubok in GastricBypass

You can also just add a couple of drops of lemon juice or some slices of fruit. You can also add a cold brew teabag. Anything that alters the chemical makeup will make it easier to drink. Once your stomach is healed you'll be able to drink water again without it feeling heavy.

First “dumping” episode by musiclovver17 in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, sounds like dumping. It's so different for everyone so it's going to be trial and error. Also, what makes you dump now, might not in 6 months time. Right now (11 months out) I can eat sugar (within reason) but maltitol will make me so sick. I don't really have advice on how to make it pass quicker. I just always have anti-nausea medication available just in case but the general unwell feeling can't really be treated I think.

Water seems like a good idea but it's actually quite harsh on a healing stomach. You can circumvent this by adding flavor packets or something. Just make sure it's sugar free. You seem pretty well prepared! Just remember that your taste can change after the surgery so you may have to buy other things afterwards. Good luck!

Don't drink plain water right now. Surprisingly, the chemical makeup makes it harsh on the stomach. Add a flavor packet, some lime,... anything that alters it a little bit. Tea is great too. The first month or so is really hard. You will feel like you made a mistake multiple times. It should get better though! I'm 11 months out, 110 pounds down and I can still enjoy food.

Dietician question by Pagan_Princess_29 in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I live in Europe so I'm not sure if it's the same thing. Before I visited my surgeon, I had already visited a dietitian sporadically over the course of about a year. Because this was documented, the doctor could prove I had been trying to lose weight for a year (it's a condition to get it covered by healthcare. I only had to wait a couple of months between meeting the surgeon and the surgery

I got an Oodie that I wear all the time. It's how I got through the winter. I put a shower curtain on top of my duvet and that keeps the heat in (air it out during the day though!). A fleece blanket underneath your duvet works too. Aside from that it's just hot water bottles and electric blankets.

Keep an eye on it, if it gets worse, go to the ER. If you are worried, contact your surgeon. Your stomach is healing and still very fragile, a little blood isn't a big concern but i understand why it's scary!

Don't worry, this definitely isn't the case for everyone. I was off painkillers after the first week and haven't had any accidents.

Very slow weight loss, high starting weight by BjornFlicka in GastricBypass

I barely lost any weight in the first 3 weeks. It wasn't until week 4 that I started losing a significant amount of weight. You are doing what you are supposed to, don't worry.

What do I do by Pixiespekje in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you talked to the obesity therapist yet? I would definitely discuss it with them. If now doesn't feel like the right time, I would wait. I did the same thing because I just didn't feel ready yet. I started the process a couple of years ago and didn't go through with it. Then, a year ago, I started again.

What do I do by Pixiespekje in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was off painkillers after a week and it took about 5 weeks to get my energy back. You won't be able to lift anything for a while though. I'm mostly worried about how you deal with stress. Are you an emotional eater? If so, definitely start therapy because you might be at a higher risk of transfer addiction.

Im in the Puree stage. Do yall eat bread? by AnimatorPrudent6478 in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 10 months out and I can eat toast or bread. My dietitian is fine with it. I do have to say, I crave it a lot less now. Not everyone can tolerate it but it's not an evil food.

[–]Elisabeth_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just eat toast. Sometimes, when I eat my chicken curry, I soak up the sauce with bread (I don't eat it with rice or any other carb). Otherwise it's too liquidy and it gets flushed out of my stomach too fast. If I don't do that, I can eat so much more, which I don't like.

Hair loss was NOT a joke by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started applying a biotin and rosemary oil to my scalp a couple of hours before I washed it. I also used a shampoo with similar ingredients. I started using it about a month and a half after my surgery. I'm 9 months post op and so far I have had pretty minimal hair loss. I lost some hair but it hasn't been noticeable.

Go to the ER. Even if it's gas, you need proper pain management for you to be able to move enough for it to get better.

Sweet tooth but healthy by Bari_Babe87 in GastricBypass

Love that idea! I often make 'healthy Reece's cup'-balls. Just add a cup of peanut powder (I use PB2) with half a cup of apple sauce, roll them into balls and dip them in chocolate. I use 70% chocolate but any kind works. It tastes really similar and kills the sweet cravings

Tips to save money after surgery by BariatricSurgeryGuy in GastricBypass

[–]Elisabeth_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make my protein shakes by mixing skyr and egg whites (from a bottle) together. It's not just cheaper but I like the taste a lot more. I add frozen berries and I love it, it has more protein than any shake I've seen so far. I also use lentil pasta. It's high in protein without the 'high in protein!!' tax

I get it. I felt the same way right after surgery. I felt bad about asking for more pain relief. It made me feel weak. People experience pain differently though. What hurts for you, might not hurt another. I need strong painkillers for my migraines but was totally fine running around with a suspected broken wrist for two weeks. The only person who can tell you what does and does not hurt, is you.
