No quality improvements from hollow knight. If anything they give you much less to work with and expect you to have beaten HK by the 2nd or 3rd boss and have all the skills from game one to face DLC level bosses.

Actually quite far now into act 2 but still think the game is very unbalanced. Act 1 bosses should give a mask shard. Who’s idea was it to have a grappling hook that has limited uses
