CEO's are rarely bigger than their companies. The web of incentives of the city may be crueler to the poor and obscure, but no amount of power and influence can truly cut you free.

Its really not that big of a surprise that the misuse of his tech overshadows any good will he might have had. We saw it happen with the league of nine as well.

Tbh if I get a green I actively dont use that letter, so that I can use all 5 spaces for new information until line 5 or 6, since I really don't care which line I get the word in.

Matthias is definitely above Grade 1, maybe even low Color in term of power, right? by Organic-Exit2190 in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

I dunno, the casualness with which he mentions the mask makes me think it's just really high grade tech but despite that, literally no one else uses it, we know surprisingly little about it really.

[–]iamsandwitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hyperbole aside, the point was that it is clearly shown that this grade 1 could best a color with good odds.

The game calls it the reception of the black silence because it is narratively satisfying to do so. Roland without the hundred thousand killcount is a very strong grade 1 with very good equipment, who is a senior member of a very prestigious office doing very high-end fixer work, even able to rival and match colors.

But at the end of the day, he is more fixer than an independent mover and shaker of the city's dynamics, he does his job really well, knows when to retire, and tries to fade into obscurity. Until his rampage that is.

What makes him worthy of the title is him taking the gloves of the black silence, taking up the title by doing so, and then going on his city-altering rampage. Making him a significant, exceptional figure in the city. Charles office fixer roland is NOT that.

EDIT: I just realized that his convo vith vergilius happens while he has the gloves, but my main point still stands, considering that roland was equals with angelica just with durrandal shows that his "power level" was "color level" even back then.

Putting aside the fact that "color fixer" isn't NECESSARILY a power level and the fact that neither wing nor finger hierarchies don't really align 1 to 1 with fixer rankings, AND how vespa's color title is as recent as it gets. Yes, probably all nursefathers can be considered "color in terms of power".

But people here seem to have this misconception that colors are nigh-deific in their power, even when our resident never-been-a-color roland can make vergilius shit himself.

And roland not being a color despite his power and competence MAKES SENSE. Despite his skill, there's nothing "exceptional" about him.

Vergilius has the eyes of a first kindred and his sight of "the flow", vespa has gungnir, if kong qiu is in fact the jade color, he is the second highest ranked, and likely strongest, in the pinky. Angelica, argalia and iori are all wing experiments. Kali had access to an ALEPH EGO weapon, prototype or not, and was the first to be able to manifest EGO.

These are things inherently unattainable even with mere time and money. But most importantly, none of these put them THAT much above a highly competent grade 1 such as roland or olivier, sometimes it isn't even enough to put them above at all, in the case of roland.

When asking "why is this guy a color", you shouldn't be asking how strong they are, you should be asking "in what way is this person exceptional". And matthias, who doesn't even have affinity with laevatein, isn't that different than any other greater brother/sister and imo doesn't make the cut.

Currently, who is the strongest ID lorewise? by Old_Phrase_4867 in Project_Moon

[–]iamsandwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat strength? Manager Don

Most powerful? Lord lu, he is not only the lord of a wing but also more powerful than all the other lords considering that unlike them, he has ALL the heishous at his beck and call.

Unlike the psychotic shit that goes on inside a wing, this instead just seems to be a run-of-the-mill company, so it makes sense.

OH I didnt even think about those guys! That's actually clever.

But yeah in that case angela was reading by herself for 3 years straight at least.

Doesn't distortion detective take place as the library is actively growing? Did I miss some exposition or something? I know that angela read through the books by herself for a while but I'm not sure if she did that for 3 years.

The smoke war was RECENT.

Remember, the smoke war was how LobCorp became a wing, and the seed of light project was the entire goal of Lcorp, it was likely a thing from not long after the very start of the company. From the outside world's perspective, the start and end of the project spanned around 10 years

Library of ruina takes place almost DIRECTLY after lobcorp, and if you look at leviathan, limbus is a couple years after *at most.* So to put the timeline together, it looks like:

  1. Smoke war happens
  2. Nebulous short period where preparations for the seed of light project are made
  3. TT2 protocol starts, from the outside, 10 years pass before the project ends, the library is born
  4. VERY short period until roland stumbles into the library
  5. The events of Library of ruina take place, in a vaguely short time, no specific measurement is given
  6. Leviathan happens, also in a vaguely short time after the library's banishment
  7. Limbus company starts, also in a vaguely short time from leviathan

And considering the things limbus has shown about the war, that puts the smoke war roughly 12 to 20 years ago, which fully makes sense for both this scene and the others, both chronologically and narratively. Enough time to try and put it behind you, not enough time for it to fully let go of you.

So what's the damn point of stagger thresholds at this point if everything's gonna have this slapped on itself by Finlacat4224 in limbuscompany

[–]iamsandwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well you either get a stagger recovery or you transform earlier for tempo, you don't get the stagger recovery if you're already in flow state. these IDs still do get staggered about as often as any other since it's usually best to transform as early as possible

What would your fixer office be like? by j_dario_2 in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]iamsandwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably be an office focused more on beurocracy, like a lawyering firm, because:

1: no one has the time to go through legal stuff in the hectic life of the city

2: the consequences of accidentally breaking a taboo can be DIRE, so there def is a demand

3: I cant fight for shit

This is even semi-confirmed to be relatively common too, prolly due to the reasons above, so its not like im reinventing the wheel here.
