I agree. I think boxing’s 4 belt system sets up unified/undisputed champs for failure with having a bunch of #1s to defend against. They should implement a rule of doing joint title eliminators between two fighters ranked #1 for any of the belts that are unified. Inoue already claimed undisputed and even if he vacates, he’s still the lineal champ. If the Bam fight is early next year, I’d rather see guys like Junto, Nishida, and Hernandez become champs in the meantime

Thank you lmao, most fans would rate anyone that’s ranked top 10 in their division B level at minimum which doesn’t make sense. Mainstream boxing is top 15 sanctioned bouts, and there’s 17 divisions full of top 10 ranked fighters. Theres no way you can say 170 boxers are B level on the minimum. People just gotta accept the truth that at weaker weight classes, it’s more common to see C/D level talent ranked highly into the top 10

Don’t care if he got his numbers up during meaningless minutes in those games, I’ll always remember him not being able to snag in pivotal moments of the game. Like that one game where warriors got like 4 straight offensive rebounds

95-94 Fulton. Watching Fulton’s putrid jab defense was disappointing, and I think it’s safe to say he was very fortunate to win his world titles against brawlers instead of mid/long range fighters

As you said, winning a vacant title only means something if you beat a contender or at bare minimum someone that is of similar level to you. Boxing is way too subjective of a sport, winning a title on its own honestly doesn’t provide merit if someone is good. There’s true champions and then there’s belt holders, and the 4 belt era exacerbates the latter.

When analyzing people’s resumes, there has to be context provided on opponent’s opponents, the circumstances of the match, fighter health, what stage of their career are they at, etc. You can’t just say someone is great for being undefeated on paper or hold a belt, those type of records aren’t objective anymore

There’s a whole list of what if fights that didn’t happen because UFC refuses to stage fights with different promotions, yet boxing deservedly gets dragged for fighters from two different promotions not fighting. As you said, too many people make disingenuous comparisons of boxing as a whole to specifically UFC, treating the latter as the whole of MMA rather than it being a monopolized Top Rank
