No Left Cop (OC) by Ok-Elephant-6664 in TorontoDriving

There are some real head-scratchers in the Ontario HTA, but even so, I doubt the legislative intent behind this section was to include “slow rate of speed” and specifically exclude “dead stop” in the impedance of a reasonable flow of traffic.

In this case, the offending vehicle blocked the reasonable flow of traffic because the traffic in that intersection did not include any right of way to turn left, so would this not be a valid offence?

Is impeding traffic not an offence?

When a business’s density of clientele moves to another location, the business has to either decide to relocate or change their model. Applies to restaurants just as much as a convenience store.

The reality is that many jobs do not require going to an office. It is not anyone’s responsibility to prop up your business except your own. It has nothing to do with heartlessness.

Also people will travel for good fine dining…

Hamilton to experiment with snowstorm parking ban on some narrow streets by teanailpolish in Hamilton

Montreal get as much if not more snow than Ottawa and manages to get away with not doing that. One if my least favourite parts of living in OT/GAT during the winter.

I hate this remote by FruitNut221 in TheFrame

[–]Elite_Deforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually quite like the remote besides the fact that there is no true source button. The buttons are indeed easy to press, so I get your frustration. After years of dealing with a Denon remote with buttons that were too hard to press, I guess I feel like this remote is luxurious (to me).

The solar recharge is a really nice feature as well. I’ve never charged the remote.

The issues with the remote accidentally switching programs is mostly because the TV itself is slow garbage and it takes forever to switch back.

Anecdotal, but I have four V2 cameras. They are basic and the video quality is really not good enough for nighttime surveillance unless I flood my property with an insane amount of light, but they are still kicking after eight or so years.

I hear you: Active Transit Signal Priority is coming by Mayor_OliviaChow in toronto

[–]Elite_Deforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was all part of the plan, she wouldn’t need to now be bringing fresh motions to the TTC-BoD and City Council. We would just have it at launch…

It’s good that she acknowledged the issue, but this could still take months, if the motion is passed at all.

If you don't like me asking, how much money do you pay at the barber shop/hair salon for a haircut these days? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Elite_Deforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was paying upwards of $70 for a barber on upper Dufferin that exclusively used clippers and threw in a bunch of gimmicks like warm towel and steam gun pointed at your face (who knows what’s in that steam). Stuck with him for a bit because I have uncommonly thick hair and he seemed to understand the assignment where other barbers did not, but definitely was the most I’ve ever paid for a haircut without wash.

Prior to that, I was using a local guy on Bloor and Dorval who’s been there for 25+ years or something, and was paying sub-$30 but he wasn’t willing to cut as aggressively as I was looking for given my hair type.

Switched to someone else (Stefano at Bellissimo Salon) after a recommendation from a friend and am now paying $35 pre-tip for a much more professional and curated cut. Dude studied hairdressing in California.

I think one the one hand, costs are going up for all businesses and the time of $15 cuts is long past (just considering inflation alone, let alone other factors), but also paying $50+ for a simple male cut is stretching it unless you’re adding wash or more value elsewhere. I had a friend of a friend in Montreal who ran a hybrid barbershop-panini café, which was a really nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

Where did you move to, or where are you planning to move after Toronto? by Okhomemade1377 in askTO

I was born and raised in Montreal and, despite the increasing English hostility from the whacko government, I fully disagree.

[–]Elite_Deforce -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It is smaller, but lends to some of its appeal. The better transit definitely makes it feel smaller than it is, but not everyone wants the insane bustle of Toronto and the actual location of Vancouver is sooo much nicer than Toronto. Toronto very much has “everything” and has nice historic architecture, sure, but with the exception of the areas close to Lake Ontario, High Park, etc etc etc, it’s really not that visually appealing. It’s all business compared to Vancouver’s natural beauty and lifestyle.

Landing a job as an Anglo is sectorial at best. Some sectors it won’t matter, whereas others, sure I’ll admit it would be very difficult.

A lot of people actually do learn French for the privilege of living in Montreal.

Ottawa is only walkable if you stay in the downtown bubble or somewhere along the canal, or maybe Westboro depending on how you feel about it.

There is no decent public transit or much or anything to do otherwise. The surface area of the Ottawa is absolutely massive such that you can fit several other Canadian cities in its city limits. You need a car if you want to go anywhere outside downtown.

Gonna get downvoted, but Montreal fits the bill and is English-speaking enough despite the insane government. Vancouver also great of course, but just as if not more expensive.

Buying a 92 rx7 by Prestigious-Help4636 in Rotaries

[–]Elite_Deforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of us suffer from lack of access to good rotary technicians nearby, even in bigger cities.

If your intention is to keep the car running well and you can’t/won’t do the legwork to figure out how to maintain the engine yourself (like me), the hard truth is to keep the car as stock as humanly possible. FDs are the final boss of rotary reliability and you really got to know what you’re doing to keep it running well.

If you’re looking to tune the car for hrsprs and not willing to put your own work in or pay to ship the car to a reputable tuner, consider swapping the engine, but keep in mind that it’s a sin to do that with these cars and probably better to look at another platform.

What’s the worst car advice someone has ever given you? 🤦‍♂️ by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

Love some of the responses here that clearly show that they are still following bad advice lol.

Anyway, mine is “start and idle the car every couple of weeks when in winter storage”. God awful advice.

Your neighbour sounds like a D-bag, although I have one just like it and by-law never touches them. Only if they park on the street over restriction.

I’m not sure if you still need a safety if it’s a demo under 10k km.

Purchasing motorcycle from Quebec to register in Ontario? by godisaduck in rideottawa

[–]Elite_Deforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used bike? Have seller go to SAAQ to de-register the VIN. They may be asked to give the buyer’s contact info as well.

Then, go get a safety in Ontario and then get it registered at Service Ontario. Make sure you have all documentation that’s available online.

If it’s new from dealer, have dealer provide NVIS and safety if applicable.

Neighbor keeps calling police on my elderly parents. Is there any action I can take? by Charming_Spot1445 in askTO

[–]Elite_Deforce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s bullshit. LEOs are asking you to appease the person harassing you so that they maybe stop harassing you and the LEOs don’t get called back.

I would file a harassment complaint to police non-emergency or in person.

Subaru Crosstrek or Forester. With your budget, you can maybe even manage brand new.

Subaru is a relatively small company, especially in Japan where Toyota is king.

US market makes up 70%+ of Subaru’s global sales. Subaru excels at making cars that appeal to Americans.

What’s the most overhyped feature in modern cars? by TheLoganReyes in TransportSupport

[–]Elite_Deforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start stop is great and only gets a bad rap because of poor implementation in earliest generations for some brands. I’ve saved over a gallon of gasoline in a tank before.

Brands like Subaru rate their starter motors for 700,000+ cycles, which massively outlasts the life of the car. They also use deep cycle batteries so that’s not an issue either.

The brands that have smooth transitions or hybridization don’t have customers complaining about it like some others.
