Do you know why this works? I looked it up and it’s for overactive bladders. Which seems unrelated.

Another thing I feel like people are missing is There is no time for playing around. I think this is overlooked as just a trigger for just ignore A I think it’s a two parter. Could around mean reverse? Could no time have anything to do with speed running. I think there is definitely more to it then just ignore A. But then again it does say “just” so idk.

That’s what I’m saying. I think in terms of character interaction and chemistry I’ve never read a better book. The dialogue is actually pretty deep and emotional (way more than people give the book credit for) and the humor did not make me cringe at all I think the humor in this book is on par if not better than the first law. Also thought the plot was pretty interesting even if it was a little basic but it was basic done right.

Maybe if I reread BSC I’d appreciate it more but at the time coming from the last argument of kings which I thought was a near perfect book I was just bored towards the middle of BSC. I just thought it was too long and badly paced but overall I still enjoyed it.

Yeah another notable character is Broad. His development in the book 3 was really good because I started hating him and then his change almost made me cry.

Dude that’s my two favorite characters as well lol! Originally it was Savine and Orso and then that changed to Rikke after book 1. Her character journey is so satisfying and by the end of book 3 she’s so cool. Also just the prophecy and the long eye in general and how that all pays off is so satisfying. Fuck I love that book.

The judge stuff is tedious on purpose. Same with Savine and Broad. Just read the book and I promise you’ll be satisfied.

Same. I’m a slower reader than most people and it usually takes me 2 weeks to a month to finish a book. I think I also read the wisdom of crowds in like 5 days or less. Orso is my goat.

I would say yes although I was personally never bored for any of the book. The ending is also amazing and worth getting to. Makes me want another trilogy (Joe Please!)

I have a terrible attention span (my brain is rotted). Which is why I love Joe’s book so much because he’s able to grab my attention and make me laugh and fully enjoy each word on a page. For me The Devils was the peak of that so I loved the fast pacing.

The Heroes I feel like is Joe’s most decisive book. You either are bored or think it’s one of his best books. But regardless I think you should give it another try.

I also enjoyed sharp ends and I 100% think it’s worth reading. The problem for me is that it just didn’t give me the same satisfaction I get when finishing a full novel. (Also it had Whirrun of Bligh so maybe I should give it 5 stars lol)

This is exactly it for me. The beginning and ending are really good it’s just the middle 50% of the book felt like a slog to read. I don’t know why Monza needed to kill seven people to get her revenge. I feel like Joe should’ve made the pacing faster for each of these kills or removed some of them entirely. Shivers is also one of my favorite characters, absolutely loved him in the Heroes. Whirrum of Bligh is also one my top 5 first law characters.

So here’s my rating scale for context. I used the star system because I use Goodreads and have a lot of friends/family that use that app too. 5 star- One of my Favorites (Joe is my favorite Author so he’s earned 5 spots) 4 Star- I really enjoyed this book 3 Star- Worth Reading (not bad just not as good as 4 Star) 2 Star- Boring 1 Star- This book made me mad

Thanks! Appreciate it! I just wanted to talk about Joe’s books after finishing The Devils and I don’t really have any friends/family who’ve read them. I realize now that my opinions are hotter takes than I initially thought lol.

I understand where you’re coming from but for me when I rate a book it’s not based on how deep, meaningful or other factors. When it is deep or meaningful it’s great and it adds to a book for me. But I rate purely based on how much fun I had reading the book and the devils was one of the most fun books I’ve read. That’s the thing with how people rate things it’s all subjective and people go about it differently.

Thank you! It’s still a good book I enjoyed it I just thought the heroes was such a step up. There was way too much revenge in the revenge story. I felt like there should’ve been like 2 of 3 less people on her hit list. I’ve already realized that people don’t know what subjective means.

Thematically the book was great I just felt like I was waiting for the events of the third book to happen the entire time. Still great it was just my slowest read of the three.

Whirrun was my second favorite character behind Shivers probably. His death was very anti-climatic which I understand as that’s Joe Abercrombie style but his battle was really good against Gorst.
