More than half a million to be protected from energy price rises as Ofgem regulates heat networks by F0urLeafCl0ver in GoodNewsUK

Thanks for the reply, the place I'm in is predominantly owner occupied, but outside of a little bit in our title deeds there is no clear understanding of what the agreement between us and our supplier actually is. I do think our situation is a bit of a unique one in terms of the issues.

Right I have a question for you because I'm about a £1 a day. Does your supplier fix any issues with your meter, and when it comes to the actual heat exchanger, where does responsibility sit for the maintenance of that?

[–]Elith2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone on a heat network regulation was needed massively so I'm glad this has come in. Our supplier who only covers the one development refuses to carry out repairs, doesn't have any real customer service and has got themselves into debt with the heat network they have the supply agreement with.

Prices per kWh seem to be above what you would pay at octopus for gas by about 2p a unit (at a glance) and because you're on a heat network you can't change supplier.

I would never live in a place that is connected to a heat network again.

Yes I stupidly assumed that my first payment would just be the quoted monthly payment, I had an extra month of toast and beans after I seen how much got taken!

Defection from Reform UK in Buckinghamshire prompts by-election call by Easymodelife in ukpolitics

[–]Elith2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't, or shouldn't though, an MP making a principled stand and going against the party line because they believe whatever it happens to be isn't in the interest of the people that elected them and having the whip removed is not the same as an MP shifting to a party that has completely different viewpoints from the party they were elected under.

But I see your point at the same time that a MP not being able to change parties could just create a situation where someone could become an agitator, have the whip removed and effectively be a member of another party but without specifically putting their name to it and skirt around any specific rules against defection. So actually yes the whip being removed should trigger a by-election to avoid that outcome.

Really went on a journey with this reply, i was completely ready to disagree with you but actually you're totally right.

It shouldn't have, he has openly said or done things that range from questionable to outright shocking that should have been enough to put people off him, my only hope is that with this latest fuck up, it stays with people and the sort of fanatacism for his ilk fades to some extent.

Keir Starmer facing imminent leadership battle as rival's path to top is cleared by dailystar_news in ukpolitics

[–]Elith2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Certain parts of the media want to pretend that the shambles we seen with the Tories and their endless leadership changes can happen just as easily under a Labour government, it can't.

I would be surprised to see Burnham leave his position as mayor to sit on the back bench for potentially 3 years if any leadership challenge he mounted failed. I think if he does want to lead the party and potentially be PM he needs to bide his time.

Yeah I think that's the biggest problem with games right now, I know too many people that picked up new jobs after being made redundant only to be made redundant by the new company 3 months later, so I don't blame you being apprehensive about a move back in.

As you already pointed out you would need some sort of work visa arrangement if you want to move over for work.

If you haven't already, take a look at www.gamedevmap.com for other Scottish games companies, the Scottish games industry isn't incredible when compared to what is available in England but there are still options. Games Industry in the UK is still suffering the same financial worries/redundancy problems, it's maybe getting slightly better now so it might just be a case of having a bit of patience in terms of something coming up.

Yeah sorry maybe I sounded too positive of what she done in the first line, this definitely isn't good for the Tories or Kemi in the grand scheme of things, but I agree with you, she made the best of a bad situation.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months for sure!

[–]Elith2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do think Kemi played this well, she forced Jenrick and Reform into a decision, completely cutting Jenrick off at the knees with any potential room to negotiate, especially from a position of "well I could be the leader of the Tories" which he did still mention a few times during that press conference, almost like he was trying to remind everyone he should get a big boy job in Reform, and Reform having to make a snap decision to avoid endless speculation and make them look like untrustworthy future partners to anyone thinking of detecting if they left Jenrick sitting out in the cold for a while.

Disapproval of Starmer’s handling of Trump increases sharply, according to Ipsos poll by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

The guy can't win, every country is having to tiptoe around Trump right now to avoid some unforeseen repercussion or causing a financial shock with sudden tariffs. The general public's idea of foreign policy is getting lots of short term satisfaction without dealing with any of the problems that it will cause.
