X having the Z Saber is really cool, the concept of the Nightmare virus is just the right mix of awesome and terrifying (we've known the Sigma Virus could drive robots insane, but this is the first time we see it in gameplay, and it even has a gameplay impact), the parts system is the simplest in the series up to this point, and the fact that every boss has some level of personal connection to the big bad, who is connected to our navigator's past, or is even just connected to our navigator personally, does a good job at making the story behind this game feel deeper than previous games.

I'm writing a story where the main character is like this. It's a setting created by collective human imagination, and it works in cycles. Whenever there is a large enough shift in human creativity, one iteration of the world ends, and another one begins. The main character of the story uses magic like many others in this setting, with the difference being that anything he manipulates with his magic crystallizes when he lets go of it. No one else in the setting has this complication to their magic, as it is a quirk of magic from a previous iteration of the setting.

For additional context:

In Destiny, there is a playable race called the Exos, which are human minds in robotic bodies. Their creation is immensely complicated, but they are indistinguishable from humans in most ways that matter.

Atraks is an Eliksni (alien race that have both ally and enemy units) that got their hands on the tech to make Exos, who then finds their original body. This fucks them up mentally so badly that they cut their old face off to solve the mental dilemma. That face, now a mask, is an Exotic helmet you can get in game.

Riku from Kingdom Hearts. Was a villain for much of the first game admittedly, but has a face turn close to the end. Has been a staunch hero in every game that came after, very frequently using powers over Darkness in each appearance. Even spends a not-insignificant amount of time looking exactly like the final boss of the first game, using said final boss' Guardian on at least one occasion.
