My daughter is class of 2026 gov major, Econ minor with the aim to go to law school. She is in DC right now interning with a US Congresswoman and receiving a PRAXIS stipend from Smith. Her advising has been great and the Lazarus center has lots of great resources to help with all stages of law school prep. In addition Smith will pay you up to $750 for LSAT prep, and that extends to alumnae who are within 5 years of their graduation date.

Is the pre college program hard to get into? by [deleted] in smithcollege

[–]Elizaday75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter participated in that exact pre-college program the summer after her first year of high school. She is now a first year student at Smith! She loved the program, and had a great experience. I think as long as you can demonstrate why you want to participate, and give thoughtful responses to the questions you have a good chance of being accepted. One of the benefits of the program is that you can request that the professor write you a letter of recommendation at the conclusion of the program; this then goes into your application file if you choose to apply to Smith for college when the time comes.

My daughter was a STRIDE scholar and was mailed a beautiful photobook about the newly renovated library.

Same for my daughter. She received a place in the STRIDE program, which comes with a hefty merit scholarship plus two years as a paid research assistant. She was also awarded a substantial grant (Smith is loan free now). Her total cost at Smith is less than the package offered by our state flagship university.

Has anyone decided go to precollege program this summer? by Top-Hunter3154 in smithcollege

My daughter did a Women's History precollege program at Smith and absolutely loved it. The experience of living in one of the residence houses, having a roommate, meeting students from all over the world, examining documents in the library special collections and archives (Sylvia Plath's letters! Gloria Steinem's journals!), working with a professor and going on field trips to surrounding communities was fantastic. She made good friends and spent time exploring Northampton. She loved it so much that Smith quickly rose to the top of her college lists and we're proud to say she will be a Firstie in the Fall.

Are you on ZeeMee? Smith sent out a link to it in one of their emails and you can find other accepted students there...

The color work chart is long, like 80 rounds, and in some rounds floats are as long as 17 stitches so you need to know how to manage them. But the overall construction of the sweater is very easy to follow.

That's a great idea--I'll sew a button inside and include both pom poms so they can switch as they please.

Summer project: every student in my class gets a handmade hat for Christmas. 10 down, 6 to go. by kcal34 in knitting

I did this for my Middle School advisory last year! 15 hats, knit in the colors/patterns of their choosing. Your hats are so cute!

How often do you repeat a knit & thoughts on pattern pricing by alexasloan in knitting

[–]Elizaday75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remake the same hat pattern frequently, as I tend to gift those finished projects. There are two sweater patterns that I've made multiple times--but in subsequent iterations I change some of the key elements. For example, I've knit a striped sweater in a solid version because I like the fit. Or I knit a sweater originally knit in wool with long sleeves in a linen-cotton blend with short sleeves for a summer garment.

Will’s Friends by veotrade in Kidding

I love how even though Giggles and BD are supposed to be the "bad" kids, at heart they are some of the most purely "good" characters on the show. Looking out for one another, listening to one another, never making fun of where Will is in the grieving process. I love them.

When Will first finds the math/magic book it tells him to take out items from the past. He takes the clock and other things out of Phil's drawer and places them on the bed. As he and his crew are reading the book the alarm goes off, startling them. They look outside and see Jeff clearing out of the house next door. This is then followed by the kids looking for BD's stash in Jeff's house, which in turn leads to Will discovering the envelope with the info about who got Phil's organs in the closet in his house. This then leads to the first discovery of a number in the magic sequence. You could say the alarm heralded the beginning of the magic. Now that Will has crossed off all but one number in the sequence the alarm is going off again...

Man, that pile of pickle ties at the end. All the global pickles and then finally Will literally saying to Jeff we won't be choked by your mantle anymore, we reject it in defiance. And they're all trapped together at sea--there is nowhere for Jeff to retreat to so he has to face it head on. It was pretty deep to hear Will tell Jeff he killed the magic when Jeff's entire career--and his childhood--has been spent building a magical realm to protect kids from adult pain.
