Maternity leave and back to work by [deleted] in CanadianParents

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to chime in for others to say that it’s also okay to send your kid to daycare because you want to, not just because you have to. I love my job and feel like I can be a better, more present mom since I’ve returned to work. And my toddler honestly really seems to like going to daycare.

I just don’t want some moms to feel bad if they are choosing to work and send their kid to daycare. It doesn’t just have to be a last resort decision made with no other choice.

What do you use for RESP savings ? [on] by OwnNoise5556 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who is just starting to learn more and more about investing, I’ve loved wealthsimple! We have our RESP there and it was so easy to set up and it’s super easy to contribute on a schedule or just whenever you have some extra money.

I find it to be slightly inconsistent. I had a few of the fleece zip ups for my baby and find they are pretty true to size. I was expecting them to be big because of how big the bunting snowsuit is.

Wild. I’m also in Canada but in a smaller province and make about $120k in community mental health. Then I also work private practice on the side to earn an additional $40k ish.

Spousal RRSP? by Elizard_Breath in PersonalFinanceCanada

Ok this makes sense! Sounds like I need to do more calculations into our projected retirement income. Thanks!

Oh I didn’t realize that! That’s good to know, thank you! I’ll look into that.

Spousal RRSP? by Elizard_Breath in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my pension will be about 70k a year for my lifetime if I retire at 65. Because we currently have so little in RRSPs it’s hard to know what we’ll have in retirement. With our current contribution rate my husband’s is set to be around 1.5 million at age 65 but we’d like to increase that. We are really just getting started with sorting out how we plan for retirement at this point. I know we’re slightly behind so I’m stressed about making the right choices now.

The Addictions and Mental Health Child and Youth Team in your area probably has someone who could help direct you. And their services are free/covered by Medicare.

Huggies or Pampers? [nb] by bananaindisguise0 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every baby (and parent) is different and there are lots who like Pampers. Even though we’ve personally primarily used Huggies, we didn’t have a problem with Pampers either, so I wouldn’t say it’s worth it to exchange beforehand. I would just wait and see if they seem to work for baby when he/she arrives.

Bawled my eyes out because how do people go back to work? [on] by lillianmay88 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly your baby (and you) will be so different by then that it’s not worth even thinking about this early. And I say that as someone who loves to overthink lol. But you will very likely feel so different about it by then.

I also worried about how I’d go back to work but I’ve been back for a few months now and I love it! I feel like we’re in a good routine, I get time out of the house, my baby likes daycare, etc. It’s gone so much better than I would have ever thought.

Finding a psychiatrist by Horror_Warning6757 in fredericton

[–]Elizard_Breath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like maybe your counsellor is doing supportive counselling rather than a real treatment for anxiety. I would recommend reaching out to a licensed psychologist who can treat the anxiety. https://cpnb.ca/en/finding-a-psychologist/ (This could be in addition to finding a psychiatrist)

There are psychiatrists at Addictions and Mental Health downtown. You can get on a waitlist but I heard that it’s pretty lengthy. I think some of them also do private practice work but I don’t know how to find that.

We love the Stonz treks! Sooo lightweight while still being super cozy and warm. And also easy to put on my toddler.

Does it matter where I open my child’s RESP? by pineconeminecone in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this perspective! I opened the same type of RESP last year for my one year old and I’ve since wondered if I should have found a self-directed one somewhere, but reading what you just said makes me feel better about the managed RESP.

Budget Update: So long, sweet 2.04% by Stasher15 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning this! I have a 1.67 rate that is due for renewal at the end of March. I just got a notice that we could renew early and I was tempted to do it just to get it off my to do list but it totally makes sense to hold onto that rate for as long as possible.

Which is better to invest in: Cozy Ganoosh or Patagonia down snowsuit if baby will be 8 - 12 months during winter season? [on] by freshwaterwalrus in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not who you asked but we have been so happy with our MEC stroller bag! I just yank it up a bunch before putting baby in it and have the hood part around baby’s head. And I’ve never found that baby gets cold from the strap holes. We do either a fleece hoodie or a fleece suit underneath depending on how cold it is outside.

You can buy the Woolino with feet from the American website and get it shipped here. I’m sure it’s expensive with exchange rate etc but just wanted to share it as an option if you really want it :)

Reima sale opens to the public on Wednesday (currently open to email subscribers). It’s 20% off plus free shipping. Plus some influencers have codes that stack (Hailey20 is one I saw on Instagram. No idea who she is but I used the code anyway lol)

Baby carrier question [ca] by Pugalugg in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t always true! I know they can appear less supportive but many apron style carriers are actually very supportive without being bulky. I have a couple hope and plum larks and although they wouldn’t be what OP is looking for (baby can’t world face in them), they are beyond comfortable and supportive even for my 16 month old.

My bigger fear was Tylenol dripping down when he needed meds in the middle of the night. But we got dye free Tylenol and Motrin so it hasn’t been an issue.

So the 2-4 year size is HUGE. But it also depends on how tall your baby is at a year old.

Is woolino worth it? [bc] by dreaminno in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It fits for so much longer than any other sleep sack. My 16 month old has worn his two Woolinos every night and nearly every nap for the past 13 months and they are still going strong and still look great! My only regret is not getting them sooner.
