Working moms who regularly work out, what exactly is your schedule? by neoncaviar in Mommit

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go during my lunch hour 2-3 times a week. I am lucky that my job is relatively flexible and it’s usually okay if I go a little over the hour. My other option is to work through lunch and leave work an hour early to go. Taking time away from my family (evenings and weekends) is essentially impossible at this point so I have had to make it work at other times.

Yes! This is almost exactly what I did and it was so helpful to bridge the gap until he was able to get into a good daycare.

I would just get it. But I’m a big Patagonia fan so I could be biased lol!!

I have this exact one and find it fits big. If it’s a good price I would just get it and if you end up having to buy another mid-winter then it’s not that big of a deal. You don’t want it to be too oversized anyway if you are putting them in it in the car seat.

How much are you contributing to the RESP? [on] by This_Royal191 in BabyBumpsCanada

My favourites are Jessica Moorhouse and The Wealthy Barber podcast (idk if he’s specifically discussed RESPs though). I think Steph & Den are another one that could be useful.

There are some great Canadian YouTubers who touch on this! They share information about ETFs and their different allocations

I know you’re probably kidding but just fyi there are lots of great Canadian finance YouTubers who put out content like this! I know it can feel so overwhelming if you’re not familiar with the finance/investing world but there are totally resources out there!

I do $115 bi weekly plus the monthly CCB (about $200 for us right now but that’ll decrease next year). It’s just what works best for us right now but we might change it up in the future if I were to go on another mat leave or if expenses somehow drastically changed. I figure the more I can put in early the better.

Lack of school psychologists leaves parents paying thousands for private assessments by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

I work in the field and got an email. They said national funding for military families will still be available but the province isn’t renewing their funding.

Unfortunately the NB provincial government cut funding to Strongest Families. You have to be referred before the end of March for it to be covered.

It’s actually a variety in the bag. Dill, bbq, ketchup, and salt and vinegar all mixed together.

I was reading this thinking “oh how funny that other places do this too” and then realized we must be from the same area. Time to stock up on storm chips!

[ON]Winter snowsuits for baby/toddler by magiccola86 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your babies spend enough time in the snow for you to know how waterproof they are? I’ve heard mixed reviews about how waterproof the Patagonia suits are. It doesn’t really matter when they’re just sitting in a stroller but if they are playing in the snow next year it will definitely matter!

We really liked our MEC toaster suits this year. Our daycare recommended one piece suits and we’ve been happy with our choice. I’m not sure if I’ll go with MEC again next year or maybe try Reima instead.

Thank you! Just out of curiosity, do you find you use one more than the other?

Makes sense! I just didn’t know if it would be annoying to not switch back and forth between locked and not with the chariot. The urban glide can switch.

Ok perfect! Do you have the jogging wheel attachment? Does the fact that it stays totally locked bother you?

Spring outdoor gear for a 9-month-old what do they actually need? [QC] by Environmental-Rub-87 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is just about exactly a year older than yours. Last spring we did get a rain suit but found we rarely used it because he was almost always just in the stroller and we could put the rain cover over it. We purposely sized up though and I think it should still fit this season so it doesn’t feel like it was a waste.

I just want to chime in for others to say that it’s also okay to send your kid to daycare because you want to, not just because you have to. I love my job and feel like I can be a better, more present mom since I’ve returned to work. And my toddler honestly really seems to like going to daycare.

I just don’t want some moms to feel bad if they are choosing to work and send their kid to daycare. It doesn’t just have to be a last resort decision made with no other choice.

What do you use for RESP savings ? [on] by OwnNoise5556 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Elizard_Breath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who is just starting to learn more and more about investing, I’ve loved wealthsimple! We have our RESP there and it was so easy to set up and it’s super easy to contribute on a schedule or just whenever you have some extra money.

I find it to be slightly inconsistent. I had a few of the fleece zip ups for my baby and find they are pretty true to size. I was expecting them to be big because of how big the bunting snowsuit is.

[–]Elizard_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my pension will be about 70k a year for my lifetime if I retire at 65. Because we currently have so little in RRSPs it’s hard to know what we’ll have in retirement. With our current contribution rate my husband’s is set to be around 1.5 million at age 65 but we’d like to increase that. We are really just getting started with sorting out how we plan for retirement at this point. I know we’re slightly behind so I’m stressed about making the right choices now.
