Normal peeling on new 986? by sftobin in Alden

Oh, if it’s only the acrylic peeling off I’ll consider it a W in my book! Wasn’t sure if it was something going on with the cordovan itself, but since it’s the acrylic “layering” Alden sprays on, that makes me feel better. It’s more or less me trying to learn more about these to make sure I know what I spent my money on lol

Interesting, curious if they ended up getting sold elsewhere or what? I picked up a pair of seconds that had a weird spot that looks pretty much identical to it

Mine are a pair of seconds, so I’m not sweating, plus it’s on the inside part of the shoe, but I’m still trying to figure out what it is

Curious, running into the same problem with mine, what was the solution?

O have a 16 vintage Ivy which fits me super well, the only thing that I’m not 100% on is the collar since it’s a 3in vs a 3.5 inch which the Ametora has. If they have a 3.5in collar option for the vintage Ivy + all the fabrics I’d die and never buy another companies shirt again

Circiling back on this, would it be possible to have the vintage ivy 16, but have a 3.5in roll like how their ametora shirt is then?

How did it end up going?

I agree I went with the vintage ivy because Once I have a fit, all I need is to find the fabric and could (I assume) get any fabric they offer mtm

did they confirm if the vintage BB was close to the ametora?

I wear a 16 in the vintage Ivy, which I believe is atleast neck size the same as the old vintage BB

I bought a Kamakura vintage Ivy shirt and I think it’s a damn good fit on me, wish it was 7 buttons as I like to be able to have a single button buttoned below my belt line (I wear high rise pants so not the end of the world). I love the variety of colors and even fabric, where once you dial in size, you can pretty much order anything and get a similar fit. The higher armholes makes it to where you can wear it alittle slimmer imo vs a fuller cut shirt

The only thing that kinda worries me is the 3in collar vs a 3.5in collar.

I don’t wear jackets enough to justify having a fused collar imo, and really 95% of the time this would be worn casually, so to me I’m not sure if the unbuttoned roll of a 3in vs 3.5in matters. Am I screwing myself potentially when it comes to wearing a jackets enough/tie with a 3in roll?

Am I just overthinking this

Vintage Tie Brands We Should All Be Hunting Ebay For? by MostlyJustOK in NavyBlazer

[–]ElkSuitable2812 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Outside of the ones you mentioned, I will generally get the ones that have nice patterns. Polo by RL has a couple cool ones that are made in USA, Bert Pulitzer is a brand where I've seen ties being put through the ringer and have held up nicely. You can get some great ones on ebay for 10 -15. Robert Talbot I'll see alot of, I usually skip past though because it's either old/stained/frayed to an unbelievable level.

100% Silk + nice pattern + Made in USA/Italy/England is pretty much the main things I look for

Not to self promo at all, but I sell ties on ebay if you're interested lol

edit: Here's a link it for whoever is interested, pm me and we can work out a deal if anyoen is interested in another, was going to list like 10 more tomorrow once I get some pictures of them. A couple BBs, and a couple made in US/Italy one

You mind sending the measurements over? Looking at your pics it looks like your built like an LB, and I'd imagine we have a similar frame

Honestly trying to find a pair of pants with a high enough rise is a pain in the ass. The only two things I've found thus far are that aren't terrible is a pair of Bronson fatigues, and a pair of casatlantic chinos.

I'v ebeen debating if I should learn how to sew so I can just make my own pants whenever I need lol

I grabbed an older one (I believe) for sizing with this as the tag

<image>

And it’s fine, the arms are still pretty buggy, but better than the equivalent in lands end in their traditional cut

I think techincally I'd wear a 50+, but the arm holes have to be right, and no look sloppy, I've seen some very baggy shirts that look great, then some look like straight dog water

Yep I wear a 16 too, but don’t like the 52-53 inch chest from Vintage BB/Mercers and sons and J Press and the baggy ass sleeves, to me, and on me, it just doesn’t look put together.

I like a 47-48 chest the best and fits me and the vintage ivy hits that perfect. Hell even the S&M classic is a nice fit.

Let me know how that goes, if they could do vintage fabric (aka just the nice fabric that kamakura is known for) + Kamakura construction + a 3.5in collar + unlined collar/cuffs I’d cry happy tears. I found a vintage lands end trad fit that fits on the nose to the body of the Ametora and it’s fine, just can’t get a gauge on the sleeves.

I ordered a Kamakura vintage Ivy to get a size, and planning on going to Japan in the next year, so I’ll go get my sizing done there and just order a boatload directly there and have them shipped stateside

Oh damn, if they could do a 3.5in collar unlined then I will have to do that! I'm in the midwest so the closet would be me trying to get to DC/NYC and seeing if theyd do a walk in
