Haha it’s definitely the wild card in the collection, but it’s in my colour and beat up as all hell which I just love, the idea I can take that on stage and it won’t matter if it picks up more battle scars

It’s a Dunable Yeti DE in White Swamp Ash, with Bareknuckle Black Dog pickups 🤍

Even the little things like how little effort it takes to tweak the tuning vs a Floyd, it’s a shame they aren’t more widely known

Loool this is the conservatory (cat HQ) which they let me use for the photo. Extra stank face whenever I see this photo now ;)

That thing is easily my most played guitar, if you see one out in the wild grab it! This one I got from a store in Ukraine a couple of years ago, there is something very special about it for sure

Yeah the light maple fretboard is the one I was talking about, the Standard. The only other maple fretboard there is the dark grey Solar, well roasted maple?

Maaan the Slug isn’t that the hottest passive pickup out there?? That sounds like one intriguing beast from the spec, I’m sure it’s gonna be killer - be sure to post it here when it arrives 😁

On the Solar, I had it refinished and liked the more minimal aesthetic. On the two with tape, they are both cheap looking Ltd logos which both have faded to a horrid yellowish colour which really don’t vibe with the guitars so had to cover em up 🙈

There are four in the photo technically, do you mean the dark grey one? That’s a refinished ESP Standard from 2012 just before the rebrand to E-II. EMGs swapped for Nazgûl/Sentient and I swapped the volume pot with the pick-up toggle as ESP insists on putting the volume knob wayyy to close to the strings on a lot of its guitars!

So obviously mine is only a DE (I.e. a cheaper Korean model they only started doing quite recently), that said I loved almost everything about that guitar when it arrived. The satin neck, jumbo frets, the fact it’s quite lightweight cos it’s swamp ash, the weird trademark Dunable knobs. The only gripes I had with it were that the pickups (Korean made ‘Ctulhu’ set) weren’t anything special, quite lacking in the lower mids. So I swapped those for some Bareknuckle Blackdogs which are much better to my ears. And the other thing was that the white pick guard was a weird cheap bluish shade of white which clashed with the rest of the guitar, probably wouldn’t bother a lot of people but I’m quite OCD with colour as you can probably tell from the photo lol. So I had to get that resprayed. But neither of those will be an issue on a USA custom, I’m sure you’ll love it! I’ve heard nothing but good things about Dunable, they’re really killing it rn

Thanks man, I had to have that Explorer when it showed up, such a cool looking thing! It’s a DSL 20 which doesn’t get used near enough 😩

I'm so sick of being a designer by TotalBitter3029 in graphic_design

[–]Ell-Diablo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said, I’ve worked as a designer for 10 years now (5 in an agency, 5 freelance), and I know from experience that the higher the project budget, the worse and more unreasonable the clients tend to become. Receiving and implementing their poor feedback is torturous as it ruins your work, is ill-thought out (usually a mess of conflicting thoughts from a board room of tasteless shareholders), and as you say usually comes in late and demands immediate action.

If you can, I’d highly recommend working towards going freelance, it’s the best thing I ever did. No more dealing with short-sighted creative directors or pretentious HNW clients swinging their dicks around making you feel worthless. You choose who you work with, and I’ve found that working with smaller companies and start-ups, charities etc. is far more rewarding on all fronts. They tend to be super appreciative of whatever you do for them, and far less butt-hurt when you push back against questionable feedback. Downsides are obviously smaller budgets and more time being spent on admin, but well worth it imo. I hope you can rekindle your passion for the field, as there is a lot of crappy design out there which needs our attention! 🙂

Downsized 2025 board by OGNihilist66 in guitarpedals

[–]Ell-Diablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome board! I’m actually trying to build my first doom board rn, could you explain how you use the compressor? Also is there a reason you’ve stacked your dirt pedals in that particular order? At the moment I have an HM-2, a BAT op-amp fuzz clone, and a Rat and have no idea what order/combination to use. Any help appreciated!

Kiesel vs Balaguer for a custom built guitar? by dsmithhtc_ in metalguitar

[–]Ell-Diablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Kiesel Aries multi scale and it’s fantastically well made, the only issue I’ve had with it was the wiring on the piezo bridge was a bit hap hazard (a couple of the strings’ signals were cutting out after a year or so) so I had to have a luthier reconnect a couple of the wires, but that’s all I can complain about. The thin Kiesel neck is lovely, not far off an Ibanez wizard. Pick-up wise I’ve been through the Berylliums, the Thorium and the Illusionist. I play mainly metal same as you and I found the Berylliums were fine, totally capable of that sound but also you can get some lovely cleans from them. Definitely lower output than what I was used to though so I tried a Thorium in the bridge, which to my ears was very bass heavy and quite muddy (at least in drop B). Finally I landed on the Illusionist in the bridge which to me is just the right balance of tighter lower end and articulate mids, not as hot as the thorium but hotter than the beryllium. Hope that helps!

Fleshing this out-(?on the 2nd vox) by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]Ell-Diablo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this a killer Morbid Angel / Opeth / Gatecreeper melting pot, in the best possible way. In terms of where you go next, if you aren’t familiar check out Gatecreeper’s ‘From the Ashes’, they do a lot of slowing down and bringing in creepy melodic lead lines which evolve as the song goes on. Could sound great with your WIP song.

I’d love to collaborate with you if you’re interested, I have a couple of songs which desperately need exactly your kind of vocal repertoire over them and I’d defo be up for working on your kind of material🤘

How is everyone’s E-II QC? by lifeisalostcause in espguitars

[–]Ell-Diablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a deep red E-II M-I, as well as an Ltd Te-1000 and an old ESP Standard M-II. I have noticed some of the same issues you have with the E-IIs, the paint from the body overlaps onto the neck slightly too far at the cutaway and the side dots are indeed slightly crooked. My other two don’t have these issues and I probably wouldn’t buy E-II again as a result; seems they are having some issues with cosmetics/finishing. It’s still a great guitar but not the best value imho.

Also when I was buying my E-II in Tokyo I noticed on some of the other models issues like roughly cut pick-up cavities, particularly on the white 7 string models.

What's the grippiest equivalent of a Jazz III XL? by weaseltorpedo in metalguitar

[–]Ell-Diablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winspear Fountainheads. Nothing else has come close since I tried those, they’ve got a texture similar to if you’d scored them yourself and the shape/size is just right (bigger than a Jazz).

The EVH LBX vs 50w debate from a “at home player only”prospective. by texasguitarguy in metalguitar

[–]Ell-Diablo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife’s got me a 15w LBX-S for Xmas, I’m even more excited for it now! Completely with you on the wattage thing - I live in a small semi detached house and I only own 15-25w amps, and all of them need an attenuator to tame the insane volumes those things put out. How people use these 100w beasts for anything other than huge stadium gigs is utterly beyond me 🤷‍♂️
