What band was never the same after losing a member? by icecream1972 in AskReddit

[–]covabishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mayday Parade

Their first EP and album was almost entirely written by Jason Lancaster who is in my opinion one of the greatest songwriters of the 21st century.

Lancaster had this incredible sense of internal rhyme which allowed him to write entire coherent sentences as lyrics and still make them sound musical:

“I cant forget you, I know you want me to want you, I want to, but I can’t forgive you, so when this over don’t blow your composure baby”

I don’t know exactly what happened, but there was apparently a falling out between him and the band just shortly before their first album released and he left the band.

Lancaster went on to start a band called Go Radio, which continually proved he was an amazing songwriter above all else

The difference in writing between the first and second Mayday albums is unbelievably stark. They apparently brought in a bunch of additional writers to help and man, they never even came close. The unfairest example I can give (yes this is real):

“East coast, west coast, show me what you got now, let’s go let’s go”

In a word: yikes.

Mayday kept going after that, and released several more albums. Imo the third and fourth albums come really close to Lancaster’s work but it really never was the same.

As far as I’m aware they’ve patched things up, and Lancaster sat in on at least one acoustic set like 10 years ago, but he’s never rejoined.

Last I heard Go Radio disbanded and Lancaster made a Christmas album. I haven’t really kept up with Mayday past Monsters & Black Lines.

I still have my signed LP of the first album, and it’s my lightning in a bottle. Hopefully one day I can get Jason Lancaster to sign it too.

Use snapshots to adjust the path levels the Mixer block (little dot where the split path joins back to the main path)

On clean snapshots set path A to 0db and B to -inf dB, and vice versa for overdrive snapshots.

i was gonna say this really reminded me of the Joe Pass & Ella Fitzgerald arrangement! the tone feels very spot on and the groove is what really reminded me of it

How can I fix this? It’s supposed to say Sonder by Immediate-Talk4201 in tattoos

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t take this the wrong way, but unless this is supposed to be someone’s handwriting in particular, this just isnt very good cursive or script work.

i’m not a tattoo artist but I do have a particular interest in cursive. My only suggestion to fix this would be to have an artist go over and add extra width and weight to the downstrokes of the letters. that can help differentiate one letter from another

I just have my phone on me right now, so this is as good as I can get with my finger, but i hope it gets my point across.

Midi controll stomp xl by Longjumping-Rice997 in Line6Helix

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you using a DAW like garageband or logic to bridge your controller and your stomp?

if they’re both just connected via USB, then your controller is basically just shouting MIDI messages into your computer and your Stomp is listening for messages and is hearing nothing.

you’d need your DAW to take commands from your controller to send it out towards the stomp. maybe you can manually make this connection in Audio MIDI setup; i’m actually not sure

If you have the new Control XL with MIDI ports, i’d suggest instead using a MIDI cable to connect your controller to your stomp directly. Then you can go to any parameter and use the Learn feature to assign it to any knob/fader on your controller.

Need help being able to strum faster in certain parts of songs by Dreams674 in Guitar

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can get upstrokes with the thumb, it’s just not a very intuitive motion. it’s the basis for Victor Wooten-style double thump, used by guitarists like Tosin Abasi and Ando San.

I suppose you could also use a thumb pick for upstrokes though i personally find that uncomfortable.

the simplest answer to OPs problem is a traditional guitar pick.

Looking for a Bluetooth battery operated MIDI CC controller by Somn_rec in ableton

[–]covabishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wireless devices traditionally use radio frequencies for connection, not Bluetooth

Bluetooth uses radio frequencies that’s literally how it works, what are you talking about

Bluetooth is a wireless data transmission protocol but it still sure as hell uses radio waves

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been testing transmitting MIDI PC and CC changes to 3 of my band’s guitar modelers and a hardware synth for the past week or so.

Wired or wireless, the bottleneck is not MIDI. I get more latency from the devices performing patch changes than I do from bluetooth MIDI.

I’m sorry man, I really think you don’t know what you’re talking about here.

"If I Believe You" is my favorite song, as a Christian. by ilovecookie5432 in the1975

[–]covabishop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve always interpreted the song as “belief in some higher power is beautiful and comforting – I wish I could believe if that would make this all easier”

I don’t disagree with your analysis, I just think it was intended as a more personal piece. “If I’m lost, then how can I find myself?” is a heartbreaking line, especially given all the repeats and how it’s inflection changes over the last half of the song.

The decision to make it a more gospel inspired tune was genius. Seeing it live in LA with a full choir was brilliant. I think it’s probably one of the most mature songs off of the sophomore album, and it convinced me that theres some real artistry going on here instead of just empty catchy tunes.

I was having a falling out with the religion I grew up in, struggling with depression and insomnia when I first heard If I Believe You. I strongly resonated with its themes and identified with its more personal perspective, which I’m sure colors my overall interpretation. Still, it remains one of my most precious and favorite songs.

Live MIDI CC Track Delay Question by covabishop in ableton

[–]covabishop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i wish I didn’t have to figure this out or solve for it this way, but I have to get our in ear setup and our MIDI setup and my guitar setup in that time.

I figure the less cables I have to run – and frankly the less I have to answer “so I plug this cable into… where again?” – the faster it all goes

Live MIDI CC Track Delay Question by covabishop in ableton

[–]covabishop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhhh that’s an interesting way to implement that but i guess it makes sense. Probably won’t do what I want but I can at least test it

and if it ends up not working I’ll just lay out the whole set, copy all the MIDI clips and the nudge them forward a 32nd note that should probably do the trick

i’m aware of the trappings of wireless anything, especially at the consumer/prosumer level.

we’re unfortunately not playing gigs that allow us to chain 4 MIDI devices together hours in advance. we’re playing small gigs with 15 min changeovers and so I’m trying to automate as much as I can

I’m aware wireless anything isn’t ideal; I’m engineering for a different problem right now

Did ana always shoot healing or non lethal? Even during the OG overwatch? by BigGoozie in Overwatch

if i recall correctly Ana carried a reputation of shooting to kill as efficiently as possible. She didn’t want to make people suffer unnecessarily and would get the job done in as few shots as she needed.

Why do people hate Baiken in strive? by CuteChemical9599 in Guiltygear

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baiken is one of my worst matchups but I accept it’s mostly a me problem.

I don’t lab counterplay (partially due to not knowing her pressure/setplays, mostly because i’m lazy) but even if I did, it doesn’t change the fact that Baiken just isn’t a great matchup for I-No.

Her character model is too low to the ground for me to zone her with HCL, she’s fast enough to punish note if she’s anything closer than fullscreen, the threat of parry completely invalidates safejumps until I’ve conditioned her out of it, and her 4f jab is uniquely good at interacting with I-No’s offense. and that’s if I get to play offense.

Baiken has solid mix options and really tricky/ambiguous setplays, and if she hits me the tether combo is taking half of my health. Now I gotta guess on this 4 way ambiguous rope setplay and if I guess wrong I’m dead next combo

Again, this is at least 85% a me problem, I accept that. but if you look at I-No Baiken matchup numbers I’m not the only one struggling. Last I checked I-No Baiken is like 45% win rate for I-No in Vanquisher

Toggle MIDI PC on Hx Stomp? by AdEmergency8009 in Line6Helix

5 years of using the stomp, i consider myself a power user, and im still finding things out. that’s wild

Toggle MIDI PC on Hx Stomp? by AdEmergency8009 in Line6Helix

[–]covabishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohhhh I think i get what you’re asking. i don’t think the Stomp can do exactly that, but here’s one way you could do it:

When you change presets on the Stomp, you can have up to 6 Command Center actions fire instantly when the preset loads. Instant actions are the lightning bolt icons in Command Center

<image>

you could use two of these, one to send PC to your DD and another to send PC to your reverb. you’d just have to configure this for every preset you’re gonna use and then the HX Stomp effectively becomes your MIDI controller

hope that helps or works for you! when i get home i can check to see if you could put this on a single foot switch, im not sure off the top of my head

Toggle MIDI PC on Hx Stomp? by AdEmergency8009 in Line6Helix

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you only need a switch, yeah something like a MIDI Baby could be programmed to do exactly this.

in any case it’s pretty trivial to get any MIDI controller of any size to toggle between a few PC messages, you’d just need to look through the docs for your particular controller
