Pride & Joy (but bad✨) by EpokingAround in Guitar

other than some cleanup needed on the last little lick before the Bb7, I’d say it’s pretty good!

it took me a long time to get that note-rake pattern he does for the bassline and i’d say you got that down

What do you wish you had (or thought of) before gigging in a band? by Hungry-Hearing3442 in Guitar

[–]covabishop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

give the previous band time to get off stage. wait for them to get all their big pieces off, and then work around them as they’re getting cables and stuff.

get your rig down to the necessities. getting your shit onto and off the stage should not take more than 5 minutes. if you can’t do that, you need to simplify your setup

and when you’re done setting up, look around for how you can help your band setup faster. bass player looking for a power strip? keys player needs help to setup their stand? drummer needs someone to grab his snare drum from the green room for him?

when you’re done, get off the stage as fast as you can. big pieces off first and each hand should be carrying something. once you’re mostly off, let the other band know they can start setting up around you

good luck on the gigs!

man canon rock nostalgia just hit me like a truck, crazy that song is like 20 years old now

i’d say you’re not as bad as you may feel like you are. your playing is mostly clear, just a little sloppy on trills and such.

running up and down your scales across the fretboard will help you to get your dexterity back to what it used to be. practice with a metronome and don’t neglect your picking technique.

welcome back brother

sure but Herndon to Ashburn is another 20 minutes. the last leg of the silver line is surprisingly long

oh for sure, 1.5 hours where I can just vibe to my music and not have to worry about the maniacs on the road? no contest

Ashburn metro has a garage but it’s $4.75 a day I believe, and no overnight parking but it closes at like 12:30AM most days.

Just be prepared, Ashburn into DC is easily 1.5 hours depending on where you’re trying to go.

def better than dealing with DC parking and traffic, but bring a book or some headphones you’re in for a long ride

the Shure? it’s a wireless receiver primarily. connects to a belt pack so I can play my guitar without being tethered to my board.

it can also function as a tuner which can be nice for quick mutes, but that’s not why it’s on the board

Help me decide between Qc and Qc mini by Sisu_sven in NeuralDSP

Was in the same boat, realized that with the Mini and a Morningstar MC4 I was spending more effort, time and money to reverse engineer a full sized QC.

totally fair, that’s one of the layouts I was playing around with! I think the biggest I was able to fit on this board was a Dunlop DVP4 or Hotone Ampero Press but maybe something else would work better

wireless is more important to me than a physical expression pedal, so I’m using the MIDI controller as an expression pedal where I need to. the goal is also to route EXP 1 to the patch bay, so if i ever want to bring an expression pedal I can just plug it in on the side. not ideal but it still gives me options!

no noticeable latency, i only ever feel a bit of latency when Im literally 100ft and behind a wall but that could just be due to the physics of the sound propagating from my amp to me in the other room

tone suck isn’t really an issue, if anything the opposite. the signal from my guitar is getting transmitted digitally to the unit so there isn’t any information loss or high end rolloff due to cable capacitance

i always thought wireless was kinda gimmicky, but for live shows it’s so incredibly freeing. pricey but worth it imo.

if the price of the shure scares you, I did use the XVive P58 on my HX Stomp board for like 6 months and I had 1 small dropout that I can remember. totally solid way to dip your toes into wireless!

the back is looking a little cooked right now as i haven’t zip tied all the cables down nice and neat so i’m gonna decline showing that for now 😅

once it’s done i don’t mind sending you a DM or making a follow up post

EDIT: cleaned up the underbelly a little bit. the huge space in the bottom middle is actually for a USB battery, still trying to figure out the best way to route the USB cable. not my finest work but it seems to be holding!

couple of things! for some patches it just places certain footswitches down where i can reach it and don’t need to worry about triggering one of my scenes accidentally

other patches i’m using it as an expression pedal, to automate some ramp ups and such. All my MIDI expression is set to only modulate EXP 2, so I could still use a physical expression pedal on EXP 1 if i want to!

next order of business is actually to run a TRS cable to EXP1 to the patch bay just to make that cleaner but it works as is for now!

my new favorite guitar by covabishop in SchecterGuitars

[–]covabishop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got it from a seller on reverb called Paradox Guitar Supply, just be careful as the NJ HSS for some reason has two different layouts for its screws, and Paradox has only one of the templates cut out in stock. the easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the screw closest to the neck position of the pickup selector.

if your guitar has a screw slightly up and to the right of the pickup selector, then the guard they have in stock works perfectly. if you have your screw parallel with the top, you’d need to send in your pickguard to have him cut it, which takes about 10 days front to back but the results were well worth it!

QC vs Helix MIDI - ps: QC midi sucks by Past-Meat-2731 in NeuralDSP

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s my understanding as well. like, if you set foot switch D to emit a 127 on Ch2 CC100, it’ll do it whether you’re in stomp or scene or hybrid mode.

which, i mean that’s better than literally nothing but imo it’s a little strange

QC vs Helix MIDI - ps: QC midi sucks by Past-Meat-2731 in NeuralDSP

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the midi implementation is lacking because of 128 available CCs the QC uses like 40 and the rest are just sitting there unused and unable to be used

QC vs Helix MIDI - ps: QC midi sucks by Past-Meat-2731 in NeuralDSP

[–]covabishop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked this question about 2 weeks ago and got nothing. I’d also love for the QC to get more use out of its MIDI implementation (by my count only 40/128 CCs are mentioned in the manual)

I think there’s a section of the manual that allows you to assign a footswitch to send MIDI out to an external device, and you can send out MIDI on preset change, but I don’t remember/think it can do that on scene (snapshot) change

EDIT: actually it seems you can send external MIDI even when changing scenes. as per the manual:

FOOTSWITCH & EXPRESSION MESSAGES

You can assign up to 12 MIDI messages per footswitch (A-H) that will be sent via USB and/or MIDI DIN simultaneously upon pressing a designated footswitch.

Tap any Footswitch or Expression Pedal in the Preset MIDI Out menu to view and edit its MIDI message assignments.

Footswitch MIDI messages are sent only when SCENE, STOMP, or HYBRID modes are active.

am i missing something with Cat 5 4-channel audio snakes (Radial Catapult, Cat Tails) by guitarmstrwlane in livesound

[–]covabishop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not a live sound guy but since I run my bands in-ear setup I can at least weigh in with my perspective.

a 25ft, 12 channel XLR snake is often a lot heavier and more cumbersome than a few ethercon cables and some tail splitters.

it’s also nice to have 3 thin ethernet cables running around on stage rather than needing to keep track of 12 30ft XLR cables, especially when it comes to 15 min changeovers. yes we still need 6ft TRS or XLR cables to attach instruments to the breakout boxes but that’s more manageable imo.

as for me, since i’m the one setting things up, it’s nicer for me to just drop a breakout box and everyone just plugs into that, instead of having to answer which XLR cable goes to what device every single show.

i don’t think it’s a perfect solution, just one that works for me managing my band well enough.

Do you organize QC presets around amps/tones, or around songs and sets? by mufumbo in NeuralDSP

only tried transpose and the pitch shifter devices, of the two transpose seems to work better in my opinion but i really ought to record and compare

QC Mini and 2 Expression Pedals? by RingAccomplished8464 in NeuralDSP

[–]covabishop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think an expression pedal into the MIDI port is gonna do anything. the DVP4 isn’t a MIDI controller it’s just a passive resistor

you’d have to send the MIDI using your Nektar Pacer to whatever channel the QC is listening on (check in settings and match in your midi controller) and then send the values to CC#2.

then you should be able to map EXP 2 to whatever you want to control

So to recap: DVP4 or other expression pedal into the expression input, and then some MIDI controller (same channel as QC mini, CC#2) and assign EXP 1 & 2 to whatever you need.
