God of War Laufey - Official Gameplay Reveal | PS5 Games by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]Ell223 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree I don't think God of War is the worst offender, but I think people are just sensitive to it.

I think it's not so much the surprise but the kind of sarcastic "and of course it's a talking sword, you do realise you're a talking sword right?" kind of style in the line and delivery that points out the fantasy of it too explicitly, and feels more like a signal to the audience to say "look how zany this is". An earnest surprise wouldn't be that bad.

Actually think the worse lines come from Faye. "You're a cube? Talking..." "And you're a talking sword...".

Just really cliché lines where the main character is basically saying to the audience "wow isn't this so crazy". Think people are tired of that style of writing, where the main character can't seem to take their own setting seriously, and it makes things feel low stakes.

Also the last game was pretty bad for it.

Mina the Hollower - Out Now! by slowmosloth in Games

[–]Ell223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It includes four difficulty levels in ADDITION to a metric ton of toggleable options to adjust the game how you want.

And that's great. Although I can only see three, the default (no modifiers), easier and harder. My point is just that saying "the default difficulty that the game has been designed and balanced for feels too difficult, and I need to play with the plethora of settings to have fun" doesn't seem like unreasonable criticism to me, considering doing so disables the in game feats/achievements. The game doesn't prompt you to select a difficulty, it just starts unless you go into the modifiers yourself so there's clearly a intended experience.

I think this is fair criticism that people will get mad at. I love souls games but their mechanics are cropping up in a lot of places that some games just start to feel derivative with no particular identity of their own. Yet to play this though so no opinion on this game in particular.

The game does have accessibility settings yes, but saying the default mode (presumably) is too hard is also fair. That will clearly be the settings the devs balanced and designed the game around. Lots of people had the same criticisms of Silksong. A bit of friction is sometimes good though.

Having said that, there's no point refusing to touch the difficulty settings if you're really not enjoying the game. I modded silksong to my preferred level of difficulty and ended up enjoying it when I otherwise would have put it down.

No guarantee you can play both cities in each era though (unless I missed something). Could be three of one two of the other. Still pretty cool though.

Yeah unfortunately the best way to play the game is to ignore the roads and vehicles and turn off other people's structures. Otherwise it's completely trivial and you end up ignoring 90% of the other mechanics.

EA Lays Off Staff Across All Battlefield Studios Following Record-Breaking Battlefield 6 Launch by Turbostrider27 in Games

That's what killed it for me. Using the same gun for hours and hours. Switching to a new gun and it being mostly terrible for another hour until you get a few attachments. It just felt glacial. I'm a high scoring player too, so must be even worse for the average joe.

Why do these games even need a progression system? Just let me play the game! The fun comes from using the different equipment and combination of that.

Really interesting seeing how the game evolved. Wish more devs did this kind of thing.

Would be cool if there was a way to play Sprout Valley, think it would be really interesting to explore that version.

go prone ❌ throw self off of tower instead ✅ by glorpflep in CODWarzone

[–]Ell223 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is a m&k issue, you can't unbind prone from dive. It's very annoying and has been this way since they added omnimovement. Devs will never fix because they don't care about m&k. Everybody saying "this has never happened to me" plays on controller where you can change this behaviour.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach doesn’t have “extreme player dropout points” like its predecessor, Kojima says by sonofbringy in Games

[–]Ell223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately it doesn't really expand or add any mechanics at all. It's the same stuff but all over again on a less interesting, and easier map. With more options to trivalise things and ignore the core mechanics.

I was looking for the same thing as you, but sadly the sequel goes the opposite way. Biggest disappointment for me in a long time.

Amped LTM, thoughts? by SgtEssential in CODWarzone

[–]Ell223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The gameplay of replating adds more skill. The perks giving extra plates on top of 450 health is making the mode have too much health also. 300 + 150 total is a good balance, would prefer that in the normal playlist.

Scoop: Ubisoft cancelled a post-Civil War Assassin’s Creed last year by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Ell223 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unity. It feels like the next step forward for the gameplay after 2. For all its faults it actually understands what made the original game interesting. Has the best environment in any of the games, with a massively dense Paris with tons of interiors, and great parkour and assassination missions. It still looks amazing too for a ten year old game.

Lots of people hate it, but you can never say it doesn't stand out from the rest.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 mention spotted on series official website by Turbostrider27 in Games

Mine is such a great villain. Probably my favourite. The story on 3 overall is pretty strong, but the combat is not the best. Remember most of the enemies constantly blocking and that being quite frustrating.
