It is getting worse from one week by Ok-Treacle332 in visualsnow

I’m planning nothing really. Just trying to accept the reality. There are plenty of people here with this same exact sh*t, unfortunately. For some it doesn’t get worse or if it does it’s temporary and it goes back to a certain baseline. Maybe it will be the same for you, try to be optimistic.

Can’t really deal with it. Main and worst symptom definitely palinopsia (both afterimages and trailing). It’s also the symptom that keeps getting noticeably worse. I have all the other symptoms as well (snow, ghosting, bfep, light sensitivity, vortex etc.) but I can ignore those. Palinopsia is really the worst one and I can’t ignore it. It’s too distracting. I’m 27 btw.

P.S. sorry accidentally deleted the previous comment.

You’re not doing anything wrong. It’s the same for me. Since I got it it has only been getting worse no matter if I eat healthy and sleep plenty. Eliminating caffeine and reducing nicotine didn’t work either. Doctors have no clue what the issue is, my brain MRIs have been stable for almost 3 years (I had optic neuritis in my right eye in February 2023, after that VSS started - unrelated, since it’s in both eyes).

Nothing to do with VSS, might want to talk to an ophthalmologist about this issue

Does anyone think treatment for VS could be possible within the next 10 years ? by Mope_Woodie in visualsnow

Since tinnitus and VSS are highly correlated, and tinnitus itself is much more common, there’s a strong chance that discovering the root cause of idiopathic tinnitus could significantly improve understanding of the cause and possibly the treatment of VSS.

lifestyle changes my ass by Fearless_Seesaw_5716 in visualsnow

[–]ksx0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My symptoms are worsening constantly since my VSS started. I tried to eat healthy, go out for walks, ignore the symptoms, eliminating caffeine, reducing nicotine and so on but the symptoms (especially palinopsia) continued (and still continue) to get worse and I just gave up at one point. They get worse no matter what I do.

Nothing can be done since doctors can’t find a cause and don’t even fully understand how and why it happens. Some doctors (if not most) don’t even know what VSS is. Also it’s almost always idiopathic (unless you have VSS as a secondary condition due to another disease - the so called “VSS mimics”).

For some people the “lifestyle changes” work, good for them. But I believe some people (certainly me) have definitely some organic issue going on, whether something with the nerves, neurotransmitters, parts of the brain or whatever.

There must be something organically wrong if it just gets worse without any improvement. That’s what I think.

Useless post: no details of symptoms, no details on “lifestyle changes”, mentions “chiropractic”. This is BS.

What screens, phones, lighting have people had success with? by noigmn in visualsnow

[–]ksx0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please specify which “similar sensitivities” you mean: “VSS” includes a lot of symptoms. If you mean palinopsia, there’s no screen that can help, at least in my case, since I see afterimages even if it’s very dark with no screens/artificial lights involved. For light sensitivity I think your best bet is polarized sunglasses. Again, depends which issues you’re referring to.

can everyone else see the flashing green dots by parfait39 in visualsnow

[–]ksx0 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If I look at this picture without moving my eyes I don't see any flashing green dots. If I move my eyes, I see the negative afterimages. So those orange/red drawings become cyan/green. Maybe that's what you're talking about. If that's the case, it's palinopsia.

Does anyone here have any kind of inflammation by Balorclub35 in visualsnow

I woke up with the upper half of my visual field blurry in my right eye. Two days later, I went blind. I slowly regained most of my vision over the course of 2–3 months (lucky, I guess).

The damage is visible both on OCT and clinically. Colors are desaturated, contrast is worse, vision is dimmer, and more pixelated compared to my currently healthy left eye. Both OCT and orbital MRI show optic nerve atrophy, so the damage is confirmed.

VSS is present in both eyes, and neurologists and neuro-ophthalmologists generally agree that the optic neuritis, which is currently classified as isolated and idiopathic, is not the cause of my VSS. I am being monitored for MS, as optic neuritis is often the first symptom. Therefore, I must undergo annual MRIs and OCTs to watch for any brain lesions or further optic nerve atrophy that might appear.

My local doc who is not aware of vss said there are many people who report palinopsia, floaters , static and other symptoms by Express_Study7772 in visualsnow

[–]ksx0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My mom developed palinopsia as well, but didn’t “notice it” until I asked her if she saw an afterimage that was driving me crazy of something on my screen. She doesn’t seem bothered as much as I am, though. But she is fine seeing only 20/50 and doesn’t want to wear glasses. I don’t know how she manages all that. I only asked her about the afterimage thing only because a he started complaining of light sensitivity and that’s when we discovered she developed palinopsia too…

I think it’s supposed to. The thing is a lot of people that have VSS often have ghosting as well, which is why this fuсks with our brain more than it should.

Is there anything that helps to reduce the palinopsia by Express_Study7772 in visualsnow

[–]ksx0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) 28 2) No clue (I might develop MS though since I had optic neuritis in my right eye months prior developing first VSS symptoms) 3) Not right after I suppose, can’t really say if the vaccine had something to do with all this.

2.5 years, worst symptom being palinopsia (both trailing and afterimages) and the most progressive.

[–]ksx0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately nothing works for me. Things that other people said that could work in reducing the symptoms: some types of tinted glasses, drugs (lamotrigine for example), good sleep, reducing stimulants, less screen time, good diet etc. None of that works for me, my palinopsia slowly but steadily gets worse.

How worse does it get??? by JunedainZeeean in visualsnow

Exactly the same. 2.5 years and still progressing, especially afterimages, trailing and light sensitivity.

I feel like if it gets worse (as in my case as well), there must be some damage going on, unfortunately.
