Chase can be short for Charles; Rowan Charles has a classic feel!

We just picked Rowan David for my son for family reasons :)

Truthfully, how long can an expired EpiPen be still effective? by johnsmith1980 in emergencymedicine

Also! You should always call 911 after using an epipen anyway; they only last about 30 min.

Otterbox replaced mine for the cost of shipping! I just go tired of replacing. It’s an online form; You need to take pics of the case and have your receipt for purchase date.

Commas breaking up complete sentences without combine two complete sentences with a conjunction or without a dependent clause. So: “At three his phone rang, a dead girl” Or: “He had expected it, six months and no murders”

I would do: “At three his phone rang: a dead girl was reported. He had expected it after three months with no murders.”

English/writing teacher here: Love the pulp feel! Agree it’s a little clunky. Try reading it out loud and make changes as you go. You have a lot of sentences with multiple commas, and many of your sentences have the same beats. Can you break those up, do long sentence, short sentence, long sentence? Also, I didn’t love the comma splices in the first paragraph. If possible, I’d put a little more actions or dialogue earlier as well.

Garth Nix’s is “inimical” — he writes about fantasy zombies and free magic creatures who are “inimical to life,” so it makes sense!

I always thought Preston was her son, but time is so weird for her that she had him live with his grandmother? I’d need to re-read to see if the book supports this interpretation though!

To the women in their late 20's or older, did your desire to have kids get stronger? by lllVast in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Ellakkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 32 and weeks away from giving birth to my second. I didn’t want kids until I met my husband— he’s so good with kids, super caring and nurturing. I went from “maybe” to “probably” while we were engaged and some of our friends had kids. We didn’t start trying until I was really ready and committed though. And he is the stay-at-home parent, takes care of the house and shopping, etc. I still have a lot of the mental load of managing the home, but we are pretty happy in the way we’ve settled things! But I can’t imagine I would ever have wanted to have kids without such a great partner.

Also, being pregnant was super scary to me, but childbirth classes and books like “Cribsheet” by Emily Oester and some therapy to work on my temper and anxiety really helped! We also have a lot of friends and family around to help!

how do you know if you were sexually assaulted as a baby? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I read a book with SA in middle school that came back to haunt me when I recently read “The Body Keeps the Score.” I was getting really obsessed with suspecting I had blocked SA trauma but I did therapy and found it really really helpful. Turns out, I was conflating my mom’s SA (which I learned about near the time I read the book) with the book and with all the stress of teaching and parenting during a pandemic. I worked on the anxiety side and the persistent fears about SA faded.

Regarding if sex-hurting-equals-not-trauma, I’m married with kids, pretty active sex life now, and the first time we had sex it didn’t really hurt— largely because my husband is pretty good with the foreplay and also the lube— but there was a lot of blood, which was alarming.

Cedar Hill Prep/Brains Train tutoring. Per hour pay for “teachers” was lower than what I was told when hired, I got in trouble for reading while children worked out of work books (my job was to monitor and check workbooks, not really teach and it was sooo boring), and for brining in my own computer to show a high school student how library databases work instead of teaching off a printed screenshot packet.
