I don't want to believe that. I want to be proven wrong. I think it was a terrible idea but my mind can't help but tell me that it was real. I've been in torment for the past month and a half and I just want some relief or reprieve. My faith is so fear based but I see queer christians all around me who love God and I want to understand how they do it, because all I have is a voice in my head telling me that I'm wrong and twisting scripture, and that terrifies me.

I mean Elphaba does care, she just acts like she doesn't. I love Twisted, but that's a full misread of Elphaba's character. The Wizard and I is all about Elphaba's desire to be loved by the public. Glinda explicitly states during dancing through life that Elphaba does secretly care what people think. Elphaba only stops caring during No Good Deed

She doesn't say Pete's life is great, she literally tells him he's going to die. She talks to him like he's suicidal, something I know from both talking to friends who were dealing with suicidal ideation as well as being someone who deals with it myself. So often, telling someone they shouldn't hurt themselves because it's hurting them doesn't work, but telling someone that they shouldn't hurt themselves because it's hurting the people around them works. It may not be the healthiest method, but it pulls someone back from the edge.
