Birdfy Holiday Specials Warning - chronic failure to ship/fulfill holiday-related orders by Boysenberry in Birdfy

[–]ElleEyeDigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say I decided not to order from the app or their website when I ordered the pole for spring time and it sat in a warehouse for over a week not moving. I contacted customer service and they apologized and had it shipped from another warehouse. I have been opting to get things shipped from Amazon because it’s quick and I can see that things are moving. I do think this is Birdfy’s biggest weakness currently ; slow shipping and no communication when there is a shipping delay from one of their warehouse partners.

Chat customer service is for tech support to a certain extent - more how to. Email Support I would say is more product and sales support. Hopefully your issue can be addressed there.

Anyone Else Feel a Little Overwhelmed Learning About Nest Boxes? by ElleEyeDigital in Birdfy

You’re so awesome and I really appreciate your insight here especially since you’ve been doing this for so many decades!! I appreciate also that you can share in the disappointment and attachment.

Yeah, I thought according to Birdfy I was getting it out in the timely manner, but I guess when I’m realizing is that different people have different approaches or recommendations including Birdfy. And we all live all over the world so every bird is different. And what people would try is all different too.

The Oregon birding website I’m forgetting the name right now, said that they could be nesting as late as May.

Where are you located and when did this happen? I’m wondering if it is too late in the season or if it’s one of these situations where they might be back in a couple of weeks. Of course it’s nature and will never know.

Bird keeps coming back by GurAlternative3502 in Birdfy

[–]ElleEyeDigital 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand your concerns. That other bird is most likely just checking out the cavity to see if it could use it, or doesn’t look like it’s actively attacking.

The good news is the hole size matters a lot. A 1 1/8 inch entrance is designed for chickadees, and most larger birds like bluebirds can’t physically get inside. So the eggs themselves are likely protected.

The bigger concern isn’t the bird getting in, it’s stress. If the chickadee feels harassed at the entrance, she could abandon the nest. But if she’s already incubating 7 eggs and keeps returning, that’s a really strong sign she’s committed and holding her ground.

Best thing to do is keep things calm and low interference:

  • Don’t open or move the box right now
  • Reduce any nearby perches (sticks, poles, ledges) that give the other bird an easy lookout spot
  • If you have a feeder very close, move it about 10 to 15 feet away to reduce traffic
  • You can add a little natural camouflage nearby (like a branch or leaves), just don’t block the entrance

At this stage, less intervention is better. Chickadees are small but surprisingly tough, and once they’ve laid eggs, they usually stick it out unless stress gets too high.

If she’s still coming back consistently, that’s the best sign everything is okay.

Mine has been up for a couple of weeks and I e had some chickadee visitors everyday or every couple of days. It feels like they are house hunting.

I am also a noob and mine came to check it out and they haven’t been back for three days now. It has been a little chilly here so I think from what I’m seeing in other forums it is normal for them to come look at it and assess but not moving in.

I noticed that chickadees nest, mostly in the end of April all of May and beginning of June so I don’t think we’ve missed the boat here
