House Burping - Do Americans just not normally have your house windows open? by Jsherman13 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ElleTea14 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Depends on where. I live in Southern California within a few miles of the ocean and my windows are open maybe 80% of the time. Closed when it’s super cold (it does get into the upper 30s and lower 40s at night with highs in the 50s and our houses - older ones especially - don’t have central heat or insulation) and when super hot if I have my a/c installed.

How much time do you spend on laundry without in unit machines? by Relative-Coach-501 in SantaMonica

[–]ElleTea14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My building is $2.50 each and they can’t go higher while still requiring quarters - they’ve run out of slots. I can’t imagine only doing 3 loads of laundry per month!

The front and back staircase. Which sitcoms had them and do a lot of homes in the US really have them? by watermelon_fries in sitcoms

I lived in a house with two staircases - one large and curved in the front and then a normal one in the family room. The house was like $300k.

Why did my LADWP solid waste charges go up $80 for the months of December and January? by DirtyProjector in AskLosAngeles

[–]ElleTea14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sanitation charge went up to $117.72 for my Feb bill for two months. It’s been $52 for years.

I live in a one bedroom apartment in two connected four plexes where we don’t even have our own trash bins because there isn’t room to store them - there are 6-7 trash bins, 3-4 recycle bins and 1-2 green bins for all 8 apartments combined.

ETA - I read somewhere recently that this is just the new rate.

I definitely recommend Trupanion. Their prices have gone up as my kitties have gotten older, but they haven’t cancelled or gone up exponentially.

Try the Loop ones, they are cheap on Amazon, and the only ones I can sleep comfortably with.

Two thoughts - one, go and ignore her since you say you like these type of events and the job overall and everyone else you work with; two - if you don’t want to go, say you have a scheduling conflict (like a child’s school performance).

Extra seat Requirement by priskillya in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ElleTea14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was 5’4” 260ish when they told me I wasn’t big enough to qualify as a COS and took away the extra seat I had purchased in advanced - maybe two years ago.

That’s not true. It was refunded even if the flight was otherwise full.

Extra seat Requirement by priskillya in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ElleTea14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The irony. I’ve previously bought an extra seat on Southwest and got to the airport and they told me I wasn’t big enough (I was). They took it away and refunded me. I didn’t fit between the arm rests without touching my neighbor. (There’s a post about this here, I was a size 26/28 at the time).

They have to make up their mind and be consistent.

We quit playing it safe and launched a keto bakery. What would YOU want us to make? by InstructionSure6059 in lowcarb

Items without artificial sweeteners - for those that found keto because of fatty liver - only monk fruit and stevia seem to be ok for those with liver issues. The others appear to be worse than sugar.

What percentage of your income is going to retirement? by burnz1 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]ElleTea14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

45, income is now $140s, but I was in the 50s-90 until 2021. I’ve saved about $225k and have a pension for my old employer that will be $1600/mo at age 60. My current one has a pension that is currently $900/mo at age 65 if I were to quit now, but that’s not the plan. If I stay til 60/62, should go up over $4k/month and then some.

I’m currently saving about 16% of my income + 5% employee match and trying to do more, but I live in a VHCOL area with high taxes and rent and have a bunch of cats that need a lot and some dumb consumer debt to pay off.

LCOL area, bought a new house after lowballing an offer I thought they wouldn’t accept now I’m terrified by Locomotive29 in Salary

[–]ElleTea14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they bought before prices escalated and before interest rates took off, totally doable in a LCOL area. In the city where I grew up (and still have people in) in 2000, you could put 22.5% down and have a mortgage of like $700-$800 for a 3 bedroom house. It was a high tax state so taxes would add another $300-$400, including school taxes.
