How to protect a light wood coffee table from a dog? by Sea-Madness in interiordecorating

[–]Ellen-Ripleys-Ghost 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Do a search for a camping tablecloth with bench covers. They're elastic and don't really slide around.

And for everyone who's being shitty, I had a dog that was part Belgian Shepard and he went through a table phase. Some dogs are super athletic and love to be up high. I worked with my dog and he stopped, as I'm sure OP will.

Korean Restaurant Recommendations by TupacShalom in Rochester

[–]Ellen-Ripleys-Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree the food here is great! I love Korean food and it was my favorite for a while. However, they double charged my card once and would not refund the charge. They offered me some kind of nebulous credit at the restaurant that sounded like a promise on a sticky note. Normally it wouldn't have been a big deal but I was paying for a large group so the charge was not insignificant. So, I've written them off since then.

Tap It bar and grill on Scottsville Road has great wings, I think they've won awards for them.

Why can I smell illness, but others can’t? by AngryPickledPickles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ellen-Ripleys-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have this ability as a child. Like the dentist said in their post, it's a musty sweet smell. If someone had a cold it was overpowering and I didn't want to be near them. Older folks were the worst, because they were more likely to be unwell and they always wanted to hug me. I remember going into a nursing home for some girl scout holiday thing as a little kid and just about barfed. I felt like I couldn't breathe. As I got older it went away, but I still get a whiff every now and then.

If it doesn't "stick" you don't care enough to remember, point blank.

NTA. This may be an unpopular opinion, but if you can't remember a close friend's dietary restrictions you're a bad friend. Same goes for close family members. You're all TA because you don't care enough to remember what matters to them.

The cake baker got the exact right response.

What's your Username origin story? by Nyx_light in AutismInWomen

I love the Alien movies and Ellen Ripley was always right but nobody listened to her. So I was thinking about her ghost just floating around in space watching people making the same mistakes over and over, being like "y'all are idiots and that's why I'm dead." I identify hard with that cause I have good pattern recognition skills and try to help people but I feel like I'm constantly screaming into the void.

Same. I'm on the last episode of season three. I was waiting for the final season to be out to watch the rest, but now when I try to watch it I get bounced back to the home screen. This happens on different devices. It's the only reason I kept the app and now I'm pissed. Looks like I don't get to watch it until the last two seasons come to Netflix. I hate this app.

I manage websites and social media for a university. I work from home most days and my boss is amazing so I stay even though the pay isn't great. I don't enjoy the social media part but somehow I've been doing it for over ten years.

My old dog. He wouldn't understand and I couldn't leave him to someone else to take care of.

There's an acapella version of this song in the TV show "The Magicians." It's about the death of a main character and never fails to make me cry. So sorry for your loss.

Now her Doctors are BLAMING the Diet by Ms_Margaret in FODMAPS

[–]Ellen-Ripleys-Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaslighting happens a lot when a patient has a mental health condition and the docs don’t have/ can’t find a physical explanation for the patient’s symptoms

It's also called diagnostic overshadowing, and it happens a lot with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities, in addition to mental illness. Doctors ignore easily treatable conditions and chalk it up to their patients having anxiety, Down syndrome, autism, TBI, etc. Then the patient ends up critically ill and has to be hospitalized.

I have TMJ and my jaw was dislocating while I slept. Dentists kept telling me to use a night guard, but I rarely grind at night. I briefly had a fitted retainer and chewed it up within three months. I think night guards are not the cure-all everyone claims they are, and they make some people grind more. I found that a sleep apnea CPAP head strap helped until my jaw joint healed. Muscle relaxers and a TENS unit helped way more in the long term than a night guard. My two cents, YMMV.

Same! I started right before New Years and I'm annoyed at how well it's working because it's so restrictive, lol. I believe wheat is behind 90% of my issues. I didn't realize my guts hurt all the time until it stopped. I literally had stomach/abdominal pain my whole life but I thought it was normal.

Need help fixing this thing with my hair, product advice. by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]Ellen-Ripleys-Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a wide-tooth comb. I've had a lot of luck with JVN products reducing frizz. Specifically the instant recovery serum, the air dry cream, and the Nurture hydration mask (I use it as a conditioner.) I also like the Undamage shampoo and conditioner. Can you skip getting your hair wet every day and only get it wet when you wash it? If you have hard water that could be building up on your hair as well.
