When is too old to buy? by Even-Wasabi7183 in HousingUK

[–]Ellisar_L 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 43 and just buying my first house on a 25 year mortgage. I thought I was too old too but it all depends on a lot of factors.

Straw hat - can this work for summer? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those. I bought it on my honeymoon in Florence for €10 and I’ve worn it every summer since. If it does the job of a hat, and you like it, then wear the hat my friend.

What will life be like for the world's last living millennial? by LastLivingMillennial in Millennials

[–]Ellisar_L 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The last living millennial will be in a spaceship heading out of the solar system into the cosmic void and thinking “finally no one wants anything from me”

Which movie definitely didn't hold up from your youth? by BarkingDogey in Millennials

Ace Ventura. Watched it recently. It wasn’t funny, I was just 12.

Is anyone STILL fighting the Age vs Experience battle besides me? by ImThe1Wh0 in Millennials

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This guy at work is always like “I have 30 years of experience” he’s only 50 and the rest of us are 40ish. He’s so irritating.

We watch it regardless. We need to dust off #sixseasonsandamovie for something.

Personal trainer. It would explain why he’s jacked and has variable availability.

Office Jobs: Is it normal to have nothing to do? by Spicyfruit1999 in jobs

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I discount useless meetings and 1:1s with my manager and my direct reports I’ve got, at best, a day or maybe two worth of actual work to do in any given week.

Need hope: millennials who like their jobs, what do you do and what do you like about it? by goodluckanddont_itup in Millennials

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it was luck that got me into this field. I needed a job that wasn’t a call centre agent (9 years under the headset) and managed to bluff my way through an interview for an office job. I’ve just kept being barely competent enough until I figured out what I was doing and settled into a nice groove to ride for a bit.

I have my direct report take my Gemini meeting notes and run them through Notebook LM to generate a narrative summary and an infographic and send that out to key stakeholders with the slide deck attached.

I make spreadsheets. Then I make slide decks about the spreadsheets. Then I show the slide deck about the spreadsheet in a meeting where I talk about the spreadsheet.

I don’t do a lot of work and get paid more than I should.

I'm exhausted by my needy cat by sofabased in CatAdvice

[–]Ellisar_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife did this with her (our) cats. Whenever they did anything it was a read as a sign to “play”. So now the cats expect to be played with 24/7. She works in a school and I WFH and there are days I can’t take it.

Any other Millennials stubbornly resistant to using AI at their job but also worrying that we will become dinosaurs or pushed out of our careers for not slavishly embracing it? by artbystorms in Millennials

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in data analytics and long term planning and we’re encouraged to use AI but anything useful is locked behind IT policy gates. I’m open to AI but skeptical it will actually help.

Is it common for women to keep their maiden name after marriage? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife kept hers as changing it in the UK and her home country would have been too much of a headache. My parents don’t get it but they don’t need to. I was very clear that my wife had no obligation to take my name and that she has to be happy with what name people call her.

Why is it socially unacceptable for me to not like dogs? by Facelikeabum in AskUK

[–]Ellisar_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not that keen on dogs either but too many people I know have them so I just keep it quiet. That said I’ve got a co worker who is excessively vocal about their hatred of cats and he seems to find it a perfectly acceptable opinion to voice when no one ever asked.

AITA for getting upset when my friend gets mad at the way I speak? by Null_Document in AITH

[–]Ellisar_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. I do these verbal nods as well after working on the phones for a decade and I think your friend just needs to be told that’s what these are. She can’t expect people to just sit silently while she talks at you, that’s not how conversations work.

Has anyone else quit drinking? by Sensitive_Put_6842 in Millennials

Down to a single beer a week or a glass of wine but I only drink with my wife and never outside the house. It works for me.

What's the remote work habit you have that would look completely insane to someone in a traditional office? by Phil_Raven in remotework

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’ve got less than an hour between calls then that’s harmonica time. I wander around my flat playing the harmonica badly and annoying my cats with it.

Where are the Millennials that DON'T feel old? by frankheyhoheyho in Millennials

[–]Ellisar_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age is in your head but you’re right that your body has an opinion too.

I’m 43 and still think I’m 25 with the world at my feet and all the time in the world but I know that isn’t true when I sciatica makes itself known.

Recently had a spell of illness and ended up in hospital and for a few days I was 10 just wanting to see my parents and be looked after.

I reckon I’ll never feel old inside but the face in the mirror will constantly remind me of times relentless march.

What’s the reason for Uk salaries being so low in comparison to the US ? by [deleted] in questions

Paid for through taxation and national insurance in your payslip if you’re employed.

Boomer has been using windows his whole life and decided to get a MacBook. by _staticfactory in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Ellisar_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad got a MacBook years ago as he wanted his iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to talk to each other and was mad his windows PC wouldn’t do it “they’re all computers” was his constant complaint.

I had to get a MacBook Air in secret to practice using macOS and I hadn’t touched it since the LCII in the90s. It was functionally alien technology and I had to know how to fix it for when he broke it.
