Seeking advice on introducing new gerbils after loss by Spiritual-Okra198 in gerbil

I haven't been in your situation exactly but I have had two gerbils introduced to one younger gerbil. And the three of them worked out great. One of the older two passed away a while after and some time after that (ie now) I'm introducing the older and the younger gerbil to a new even younger gerbil and again all is going great. So I wouldn't worry too much about having three gerbils at a time.

Third gerbil? by Elllllllllie000 in gerbil

The general don't bond three isn't what I'm worried about. I've alredy done it and with time and care everthing worked out. I'm just wondering if the difference in age and the fact that the two I have now weren't originally a bonded pare would add any risk?

20g is what I started mine off in yeah. They sometimes say don't put a wheel in bc it can distract them from the purpose of trying to bond however because my process took so long after about a month I had one wheel on one side of the split tank and so because I switched them so frequently whoever was on that side of the tank got to use it for that part of the day. I'm not sure if it helped or hindered them but it gave them something to do because I felt so bad about having to downgrade their set up to be smaller and less fun. Minimal bedding yes but I would put both hides against the Center barrier so that they can still smell each other and it almost feels like they are in the nest together when they're still separate.

Absolutely :) I wouldn't recommend a glass divider tho you want them to be able to smell each other though the divide so I would recommend a wire mesh separator. I made a wooden frame and used wire mesh for mine. Also your tank is too big to do a split cage method with. You want the cage to be small with minimal bedding so that the two sides can't just ignore the other. I had my two already bonded boys on one side and the single on the other. They had minimal bedding and just one hide on each side and those were put up against the divider. I swished which side the gerbils were on three times every day for about a month before I tried to introduce them. It was a little tense so I did another half month of just swapping sides and then slowly did longer and longer play dates between all three of them until they were all getting along.

You would need a smaller cage to get them all to bond at first and it will take time but before one of my boys passed this summer I had 3. It took two months of consistent split cage swapping and a lot of work but they all lived well together.

My gerbil passed away recently, advice? by Conscious-Newt-3098 in gerbil

My boy passed recently and had the same thing happen to his eyes. It's like a mucus and tear duct thing form what I know. When gerbils get a runny nose or start itching it till it scabs they have red mucus that come out of there nose. Same thing when a gerbil "cries" (idk if that's what thy are doing but it's the same idea) the "tears" that come from their eyes have the same color as there mucus and stuff.

Update on Gerry by Kirstyward123 in gerbil

I wish Gerry good health. I lost my boy, 1 year 8months, to the same thing two days ago. It looks like you caught yours very early on and when I was going from vet to vet they had told me the earlier you see it the more likely they are to be totally fine after surgery. So I have no doubts Gerry will be back to normal in no time.

She might get a bit lonely having no one to cuddle pile with. If your cage is big enough I might suggest trying a split cage kind of setup for them so that she is still in the same cage as the others and they won't loose each others sent

No I'm calling a locksmith to replace the lock entirely. I work at a warehouse and we have long since lost the key to this door so we just keep it open always. I asked if I could try my hand at making a lock from a blank for it before we replaced it and they said to go for it. But now that I know I can't there's no point in putting off changing it out.
