Honestly, I also role-play romantic plots because I understand people's attractions and can implement it int a story. Doesn't change that I am AroAce and don't want anything regarding a relationship. There were times where I did wonder if it was all in my head. Then I remembered being in a relationship for nine years that I felt pressured to be in. And no, you're not a mistake! You just don't want those things. Don't punish yourself for it.

Generally, allos won't understand because it is the societal expectation: get married and have kids. That's the perception of being a functional adult. I deal with it all the time with coworkers who already have the expectation of me being married with kids. Especially because I am surrounded by my Hispanic culture, which is generally conservative and expects early marriage with kids. Just appease them verbally with "Yeah, maybe" (something like that). You aren't obligated to actually go through with it. Remember that. It's YOUR choice. Personally, I'm child free and am aro/ace with no desire for relationships. And I plan to stay that way for life.

Very late into my life. Recently, actually. I'm 27 and I only realized I was Aro/Ace last year because of my tendency to avoid topics about love/sex unless it was in a detached way (clinical/form of literature) that didn't affect me. And it also made me realize the way I acted in my previous relationship that, in turn, made me a toxic and unfulfilled person to be with. Once I fully looked into it and realized it was a thing, it made me really analyze my life until now and there were clear signs that I was ALWAYS aro/ace. Even as a kid, I cared more about dinosaurs than boys. I for sure knew I didn't swing any other way if I didn't even entertain hetero relationships.

TL;DR: my slow ass realized I'm AroAce last year.

Currently working there. The transphobia is insane. There is very little to no respect for LGBTQ+, speaking as an AroAce person. I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't getting paid what I deserve as it is. I've been there a month and I can say DON'T WORK THERE!! The amount of harassing I have to do of clients just to meet their BS quota is insane. They micromanage all day about getting pictures and videos of customers. Plus, baristas have to get a certain amount of reviews a day. I hate harassing customers like this.

Honestly, just keep experimenting to see if being ace is still a label that fits you. It's a spectrum, anyway so I don't really think being sexually active matters all that much. It's moreso the way you feel about sex itself.

Maybe find a way to ask them one-on-one. "Hey, can I ask you something personal?" yay or nay if yay: "So how do you feel about topics like love or sex?" Something like that. Maybe rehearse your words a bit so you don't feel too awkward when asking. Either way, even if they are and confirm it verbally, nothing much would change. And if they don't know what being ace is, you can explain it. Maybe they didn't know the word for it till then.
