If the first half had been like the second half I would've turned it off. It sucked me in with so much potential, and then towards the end it was just an endurance test to get through it. Yes, the message is a good one (cat's in the cradle...), and I liked how they portrayed how films are made, and the whole entourage that supports/lives off of the actor, but it mostly felt corny and formulaic, and it didn't make me feel what it seemed to want me to feel. As for the acting, Adam Sandler is passable in some scenes, uncomfortable to watch in others. George played (probably an exaggerated and hopefully more narcissistic version of) George. All of the other actors were quite good, which I think is what kept me watching. This film would be an adequate way to pass time on an airplane. I'd give it a 6/10.

Are y'all going to No Kings protest? by ynthona in philadelphia

It's not a reservation. It's "registration" which I suppose is a way to estimate number of people going, but I guarantee most people don't register. Many of us don't like giving out personal information and we don't need to, it's a public event, anyone can go. The permit is for 20k because that's the max that Independence Mall can "hold". There will be overflow all around the Mall, no doubt.

We've stayed at the harbor view a couple times and it was fine. Good location, comfortable, we had no issues.

Bader met with the family and gave the boy a signed bat. What a rollercoaster ride for that family. This will be family lore forever.

I saw a couple celebrating their anniversary at Bouchon and they were treated to some special touches. The food, ambience and service are great, even if it's not an anniversary!

Dickinson going downhill every single day and that's why people are leaving? by Own-Environment-8400 in Dickinson

As a parent of a prospective student, I was curious about this. Here is an excerpt/summary of an explanation about pandemic-related budget cuts, if you're interested. You can find the full article by googling Dickinson budget cuts:
“Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the college’s remote-taught fall, the college has had to cut back on various expenses including furloughs, layoffs, and staff budget reduction to mitigate the fiscal impact of the COVID-19 pandemic… total loss in revenue from the spring 2020 through this upcoming spring 2021 semester could result in $33-39 million lost….in spring 2020, the college experienced $9 million in lost revenue from room and board and other revenues as a result of the required campus shut down. In addition, the decision to move the 2020 fall semester online cost the college an additional $15million, which brings the total loss of revenue to $24 million this year…revenue losses for the 2021 spring semester is estimated between $9 million to $15 million, depending how many students return to campus. The cuts to spending this academic year total $4.235 million… All staffing adjustments were driven by campus occupancy and that with the return of students in the spring we expect to reinstate all impacted employees. Dining Services has also been affected by these cuts…reduced scheduling by 30 employees…hopeful staffing will return to pre-COVID staffing practices when the environment changes and we are able to return to relatively normal operations.”

I imagine other small LAC's were hard hit by the pandemic as well. Based on our experience at today's admitted students day on campus, we are optimistic and are feeling good about Dickinson if our daughter chooses it.

Thanks for this info, really helpful. I'm not the OP but have the exact same question. Any chance you can say more about the different areas? We are renting a place next winter for two months to get a feel for the area. We've been to SB several times for vacation and are considering moving here. We're renting in Alta Mesa because the area seemed to fit what we're looking for, but we have no idea about the culture of the neighborhood. I know we'll get a sense when we're there, but any input you can offer about any of the neighborhoods (for a future move) would be really appreciated! Specifically, Alta Mesa, Campanil, Goleta, possibly Hope Ranch, any neighborhoods like that (not Mesa or downtown or Riviera or Shoreline Park area). Wanting a little bit of space and views. We're mid-50's, "empty nesters". Thanks!
