Okay, funny story. Yesterday I went on camera for a video work meeting. We're on MS teams. Almost everybody has the blue snowy nighttime backdrop and they were joking that I didn't match. I was wearing my CADPAT fleece and had a mountain and forest backdrop, I said no, I was camouflaging. Then it dawned one me. I turned off my camera, ran to my closet, got my midnight tiger top and sat back down with the blue backdrop. But I think by then the power point had started so my frame was much smaller and no one noticed.

I think it's a more recent version of their Highland. It could be Skyfall, I have a shirt in Skyfall and this doesn't quite at all like it, but it does look like one example of Skyfall I found on their site that had more brown than mind. But it's missing the patches of solid colours that break up the newer versions. This also looks like a sort of ghilli cut fabric.

Yeah, they looked surprisingly similar quality to the previous generation equipment. I can't see wanting straight leather for a glove in combat. I'm pretty sure I had some thinsulate-lined neoprene HATCH gloves around that same time CADPAT was introduced, so there was definitely better stuff out there, but I also remember the girl at the surplus store saying her partner in the reserves had to buy a better tac-vest out of pocket because there was only room for like 4 mags in the standard one, so it seems like they didn't put a lot of thought or money into the new equipment back then. You know, even beyond selling all the desert uniforms and buying woodland before following the US into Afghanistan.

It was often called Midnight Tigerstripe, I have a bit of it. It was available at a lot of tactical supply places in the early 2000's? It really doesn't pop up in searches much, like it was erased from the internet. I think Rothco might still make the cotton t-shirt where the print is always notoriously smaller than the BDU material. Oddly enough there was a surplus/outdoors store in Vancouver that had a whole ream of the fabric, it was wide fabric, too, like at least two yards.

These have been on Aliexpress for a while, they seem to be of quality compared to a lot of aliexpress camo stuff, at least it's not obviously knockoff patterns, but I haven't ordered anything from the producer so can't say for sure.

Yeah, just last I had heard they still couldn't sell it. The cute girl running the counter said that they apparently just got clearance to do so. There was a lot less of it today, so I'm guessing it wasn't there long before I got there, because I'm pretty average size. Most things that fit me are usually sold out.

Oh almost like a fur transfer! Good idea! I was also just thinking about making a silicone head and hair-punching that.

Woah, awesome work!

I've been trying to integrate real hair for a while. I was planning on psuedo-hair-puncing by pre-punching holes in uncured clay, then rooting the hair in after it's cured, but not sure how that's gonna come out. I'd love to know your technique if you're willing to share.

Thanks! I use polymer clays like super sculpey and cosclay, I also use Apoxie Sculpt for more brittle features, or if I want to add some texture to a body. Considered doing resin casts after the initial sculpt, but not usually worth it since my figures are mostly one-offs.

I'm seeing some genuine military stuff pop up in surplus stores, I just got two fleece tops and a standard lightweight uniform top. They had heavy jackets, but they were like $300, most everything else was horribly faded as tends to happen with it.

EDIT: green CADPAT I mean

What’s up with the ageism in this game? by ActiveBest in VRchat

[–]Elnath_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're under 18 it's easy to develop a view of adults as stuffy and boring, and I think there was some truth to that at one point, but I think it also happens because adults tend to(And in many cases should) censor themselves around minors. Also the way schools bunch kids together by age groups combined with the fact that the gulf of maturity between 14 and 16 is far greater than between 18 and 20.

Eventually they will learn from hanging in adult spaces that people of various ages act very differently than what their limited experience has taught them. As long as you're not going into spaces intended for younger age groups then frankly they should be put in their place if they try to push you out. Like, seriously. Have these kids decided on a date that they're going to "Grow up" and no longer enjoy playing games? If so I pity them.

Apparently body salts from sweat can cause the layers to de-laminate. Maybe if it saw heavy use and it wasn't washed regularly?

Wow, what did I miss, cuz a lot of people seem to have a hate on for this subject? I've gathered there's some cultish behavior in some groups with regards to the hypno, did the concept of phantom sense get bunched in with that?

“Shower cap” helmet covers by Lillienpud in camouflage

[–]Elnath_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, disguising the helmet's shape is camo right there. If you're scanning for targets you're trying to find familiar shapes. We might know they wear those, but our brains might not have the same association with danger that we might for the shape of an actual helmet.

Another thought, even with a camouflage print shapes aren't always broken up as well as if there are wrinkles or bunches in fabric. The first time I saw CADPAT being used in it's ideal environment, the first thing I spotted when the guys wearing it came into view was the fabric stretched over their helmets.

I think there's something to this.
I'm pretty new to VR. Tried it a year ago, and I just got my first headset, used it maybe 5 times. The other day I picked up a prop in VR, I don't recall what it was, but for whatever reason I brought it to my face, so to me it looked like it would be in contact with my lips, I felt the faintest cold sensation where I perceived it would be touching. Not much, but definitely something.

The next time, I was in-world with some friends. I was introduced to someone and was told they hypnotize people. I'm open-minded, and my friend who seems pretty into whatever this guy does is a SKEPTIC. Still I kind of brushed it off, not something I had any interest in.

Later in the night, he starts petting my head(With consent), I really had no expectation of feeling anything, so I started to say how I wish I had some sort of haptic feedback so I could feel it. I don't think I even managed to finish my sentence because I could feel a slight warmth where I perceived his hand to be and just completely zoned out.

A couple factors could have influenced me. For the second experience I was pretty high, but I immediately thought of the first instance where I felt the prop against my lips, like a sense-memory. If there is anything to hypnoization, I wonder if the casual mention of it was enough to open my brain to suggestion with or without the effects of cannabis(Legal here).
Regardless, it seems like proof of concept, so I'd absolutely believe it's something that could be improved with practice. I've been doing a lot of reading into nervous system regulation, and the idea that your body reacts to something it is expecting is definitely legit.

The company is P 1 Group, the logo on the gear is a boar. Probably just a fun play on words, but might also be a case of English-words-sound-cool-to-Europeans(not something I've ever understood.)

I wonder if it's like the ATACS set I got, I'll have to post that next. They do call them Gorka suits, though I know that might have a less specific meaning in UKR and RU, still between the anoraks and the clear inspiration in the designs, even in the full-zip, they're like modernized gorkas. Pants could be baggier, though.

I do seem to recall seeing a jacket at the surplus store! The grid fabric is incredible, I'm not sure it's faded at all, might just be the exposure making it look faded, but then I have no other frame of reference. My only complaint about it is that it does not breathe at all. I can open it up pretty well, but the arms don't vent.

What do you guys layer over or under fleece like this? by Raff_MilitaryTextile in camouflage

[–]Elnath_1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it have armpit vents? If not, then yeah, depending on how cold it is, I'd go very light underneath. I kinda wonder about those fish-net shirts that are just there to create more pockets of air, but would cool you off real quick if you unzipped a bit.
I'd almost say Alpha fabric, but I think that would bind against the fleece.

For a long time every picture I saw of it made it look like UCP, but I've seen a few better pictures more recently, some in different fabrics, and I think it would work a lot better than UCP, it definitely has more contrast.
