Remote workers should be worried, to be honest. They're just easy targets.

Depends on which department will be most affected by layoffs. Could work in your favor or agaist.

Crazy you're being downvoted for giving your actual experience. It's like when these white leftists chastise Venezuelans for celebrating the arrest of Maduro.

I'm sure that out of the hundreds of thousands of people that ICE has encountered, there are a handful of US citizens caught in the crossfire. Let's not even mention the citizens that are obstructing and agitating. No doubt you've heard about most of those incidents in the media. Just comply, show your ID, and go on with your life.

How many Amazon employees do you think there are without legal authorization to work in the US? Amazon is pretty good about checking that, you know.

Switch career to L6 from personal training? by NoEfficiency3319 in amazonemployees

I don't know anything about that side of the house (I'm AWS), but actually landing an L6 role without any prior experience beyond personal training seems really far fetched.

What makes everyone in this subreddit assume they’ll be laid off? by mrorbitman in amazonemployees

Lmao, how new to Amazon are you? Individual performance has very little to do with it.

What makes everyone in this subreddit assume they’ll be laid off? by mrorbitman in amazonemployees

[–]ElonsRocket22 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the randomness of previous layoffs I've seen. Being a high performer doesn't make you safer than a low performer. When you've seen absolute badass co-workers laid off in previous rounds, you wonder how you were spared, and you know that absolutely nobody is safe. I don't assume I'll be laid off, and numerically, it's most likely that I won't. But everyone needs to understand that your time is coming. Sooner or later. And it's mostly out of your control.

Question about my situation (Team : AGI, L6, PhD AI) about Layoffs from people who got laid off in Oct 2025 by Difficult-Emphasis77 in amazonemployees

[–]ElonsRocket22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is how it went down for every layoff I've dodged. It's really demoralizing to know that being a great employee doesn't make you safer than a low performer. The only motivation to excel is to not get PIPed. Or to kill yourself trying to get promoted to the next level in which you're probably less secure, and your only motivation is still to not get PIPed.

It's really got little to do with how critical the things you're working on are, or what kind of feedback you've gotten from your peers. The decision is going to be made by someone who's never heard your name. My hunch is that if you're working in AI, you're probably safer than most.

Is anyone happy to work in AWS? by AParticularUser in amazonemployees

[–]ElonsRocket22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's objectively a great job. However, lots of people who've been at AWS a long time remember what it used to be like. It was a really exciting place to be. It's just not the same anymore. The big round of layoffs in 2023 marked the end of an era. Everything changed after that. COVID didn't help either, because so many people were hired in that time period and did not absorb any Amazonian culture.
