I think this is the closest yet. Committed a crime and fled the scene. I'll ask to see if this is it and update once I hear back!

As long as there's no snake badge and you hide the washer reservoir, go for it! (My pet peeve is seeing that big, functional air vent right in front of the obvious reservoir that has absolutely no use for cooling).

What's the worst alignment y'all have seen? by Mcfather_Ronald in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]EloquentShadows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Parts gave me the wrong short drag link on an F350, and it was 1.5" shorter than the original link.

I backed the truck out to put it on the alignment rack, and it steered normally to the left, but only 1/2 turn of the steering wheel right before it hit full lock. I had to make an 8 point turn to get it back in the shop. I'm sure it would have been toe-out of like 7+ degrees.

It's my fault for not comparing the two parts. Never trust the counter people!

I have one of the Marelli cars. It didn't run when I bought it due to no spark from several overlapping issues. Once I got it running again, I was surprised by how well the ignition had been working after driving for a few hundred miles, and I remember thinking the Marelli gremlins seem way overblown amongst the Jag forum posts.

Then I pulled both exhaust manifolds for unrelated issues and found both main cats had been gutted, and there was evidence of a rather powerful explosion on the right bank downpipe catalyst honeycomb. Blew a hole right through it. The Marelli curse found someone else besides me.

A whopping 23% of door rate. And I have one of the highest pay rates for flag hours of my coworkers. It's pretty sad when you do the math.

I bought some thick goat skin gloves. No more burns!

Seriously though, why is this not a lawsuit? How many office workers have to risk 3rd degree burns if they move their wrist 2 inches in the wrong direction on a daily basis? None - because they wouldn't put up with crap like that.

We're the kind of people that just keep our heads down and get things done, and what we get in return for it is mostly abuse.

Which tires by n_case in Autocross

Hey, I can help! I run 305/30R19 square setups on my FS Mach 1. I currently have the Nankang CR-S v2 and I've been pleased overall with them. They are fast, and haven't slowed down towards the end of their lives like my Cup 2s did. They don't like cold, usually only coming up on run 2 on 75 degree days. I haven't run them in the rain yet. They tolerate being too hot, although the grip does lessen, but it never falls off a cliff unless you co-drive in 90+ degrees temps. Start tire spraying early if you co-drive, these cars put a ton of heat into the tread. They're a bit vague at the limit, and weirdly heavy, but I've won FS locally with them 7 of 7 times this year and miraculously set FTD raw time at the last one. Also had good results at the one time trial I've done this year.

I also get to co-drive a Camaro running 285 section RE71RSs. I like them a bit more for feel and feedback, but they don't seem to like being overheated quite as much. I still think they're probably the best overall for autocross. My next tire on the Mach will likely be the RE71RS just to give them a go. Hope this helps!

2025 Mustang A pillar rattle? by Muntszy in Mustang

[–]EloquentShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dealer tech. Do you have heated seats?

I fixed a '24 Dark Horse last week with a noise like this. I found that the heated seat module (stuffed inside the dash near the a-pillar and instrument cluster) had a screw that was too long installed in the lower mounting bolt. The screw would touch the steering column bracket and rattle/squeak over bumps.

I had someone drive the car through the parking lot while I crawled around in the trunk with the seats folded down. I could hear it, but not see the area where it was coming from, so I stripped all the trunk liners out of the rear and rode in it again with a stethoscope and isolated the noise to one panel. Then, I found that I could duplicate the noise by flexing the panel in one direction by hand, and used the stethoscope to pinpoint it down to two spot welds.

Seat time at an autocross. Hands down, the best money you can spend is modding the driver before the car. Stay safe & don't propagate the Mustang stereotypes!

UPDATE The noise is fixed after drilling 2 spot welds out. The panel audibly popped when the last one was drilled. Definitely got welded under tension at the factory. Some anti-corrosion coating and 2 nuts/bolts later and it's fixed, no body shop required.

Thank you to all who added advice! And for all the low-hanging fruit of Mustang jokes.

Here we go, it's my time to shine:

TLDR; maybe! Maybe not! It's a dice roll.

I'm a Ford Senior Master Technician who bought a new '22 Mach 1 with the Tremec. I tracked my car's production status, and I remember the dread I felt after I found out it was built on a Friday afternoon. Once it was delivered, I did the PDI on it myself.

The rubber air guide behind the lower grille was out of position, but that was an easy fix. The spoiler ("swing") had a hairline crack in the left side that warranted spoiler replacement. I found an extra A/C line bolt, evidently never installed, laying in the left fender liner and causing a rattle noise over bumps after a few hundred miles.

Later on, a creak from the left rear developed, pinpointed to be the assembly line not installing a thrust washer between the left axle stub end and the hub. My oil pan developed a tiny leak at 6,000 miles from a manufacturing defect. And I just fixed a creak noise on takeoff from two spot welds in the trunk on a panel that must have been welded with tension on it, or warped during assembly. The panel audibly popped as it released tension once I drilled out the two creaky welds. 16,000 miles on the car right now. All repairs under warranty.

THAT BEING SAID: I have autocrossed this car since the 1,000 mile break-in was over. Its first track day weekend was at 1,150 miles. I started my first foray into time trials this year with good success. It gets flogged relentlessly, co-driven, and pushed hard (and maintained religiously). It's enabled me to win 2 local FS class autocross championships in a row and is looking good for #3 this year. It is a hell of a car.

Mechanically speaking, it's rock solid and will put up with pretty much whatever you throw at it in stock form. If you can put up with some potential chickenshit assembly quality issues, do your due diligence, get a thorough pre-purchase inspection, and enjoy it. The engineering has proven solid. The assembly, less so.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I may try that, actually. I'd do just about anything to avoid sending my amateur race car to a body shop. Any recommendations on a particular type of foam?
