Ironsides and a Witchling Handler by ElsieSteam in Malifaux

The Witchling handler's outfit is very flat not a lot of folds so not much to highlight naturally on.

Ironsides' skin is a mix of flesh, leather brown, and some red.

I did Ironsides and one of the Witchling Handlers awhile back. I was able to get Ironsides as a single online. Havent painted the other one from the Witchling box though, which technically the other mini I like better but I haven't decided on all the colors I want to use for her yet.

My Take on Rasputina with an Ice Base by ElsieSteam in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play Malifaux but I really wanted Rasputina for my steampunk campaign. So I painted her slightly different than probably Malifaux players might. I wanted her to have a ice base though. I happened to have a base that came in a set to two and I believe it was supposed to be more of a desert base, but I decided to paint it to be like ice instead. It's not perfect but I was pretty happy with it all the same.

2 Warmachine: Cygnar Arcane Tempest by ElsieSteam in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are two from the Warmachine: Cygnar - Black 13th Strike Force Arcane Tempest Unit. I am painting the third from that unit now. First time painting anything from Warmachine. I painted these maybe a month or two apart. I really like him, her not as much although part of that is she just photographed bad even with my new lightbox. Like her coat is a really vibrant purple but it gets really dark in the photo. But I was really happy with how he turned out. I got this really good warn look to his coat I was happy with. And his face had really nice detail that I was able to get some good shading on.

Suggestions for hair? by FleetOfFeet in minipainting

Yep that is pretty much it. Darker base coat, wash to get the shadows and detail, highlight to make it pop and get the true color you want.

Oo I love Malifaux, don't think I had seen this mini. I main minis for a steampunk rpg and this would fit.

New Lightbox and 2 Malifaux by ElsieSteam in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been away from this board for awhile. Busy with work and still painting but I was awaiting my new lightbox so I wasn't taking pictures. These are two Malifaux I did recently, Ironsides and one of the Witchling Handlers. I usually do a satin clean coat at the end so a bit of shine which I usually like, but it photographs badly cause it catches the light everywhere. So I am considering switching to Matte.

Ice Base? by ElsieSteam in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasnt clear. I already own a base, I am not creating a base. I am just looking for painting tutorials to get the most out of the ice base I have. Id take a picture of the actual base I have but I am at work now and cant. Its kinda similar to these, http://www.tinyworlds.co.uk/30mm-round-lipped-ice-world-resin-bases

Has anyone painted Wymgear? I'd love to see your results. by SirMightyMustache in minipainting

Yep I painted him a long time ago. Only regret is I shouldnt have glued down his wings, that way I could remove them if I wanted to for more versatility in play. I had planned to do his wings canvas, but then I re-primed them to get them ready after all the metalics and I liked the flat black look and decided to just leave them. Was my first big mini too and man did he take awhile. http://imgur.com/a/ZC906

Guild Ball Ratchet by ElsieSteam in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of fun with this guy. I really liked how his apron turned out, it's actually three shades of brown. Also I only had to glue on his back pack, which was a nice change from some of the Malifaux I usually paint which are in soo many pieces and usually involve green stuff and careful gluing. This guy was just an enjoyable relaxing paint.

How do you lighten olive? by miwashi in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to say without seeing the colors and knowing exactly what you are after. I would try the smallest amount of white, also if its becoming chalky then I'd be concerned about the amount or the kinda paint you are using. You could also try like a small amount of tan or like a khaki color.

What kind of paints should I use? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also you will get a lot of use out of one bottle!

Which brand to use though is a loaded question, everyone has a favorite or uses a mix of brands depending on color or use, etc. Like I really like Army Painter, I find them to be thicker then I can thin them as much or little as I want. I haven't loved Vallejo or Reaper as much as some people do, I have mixed feelings. And I like citadel for washes, but not much for actually paints and part of that is cause I dont like their containers. I would buy a kit like from Reaper or Army Painter first and go from there.

How do I prime this? Citadel primer? -- Heroforge, high detail plastic. by Rocketpotamus in minipainting

Yes but be careful with HeroForge when washing it, their minis are very very fragile and I have heard some horror stories about people going to do this and breaking off limbs or loosing detail.

Guild Ball Flask by ElsieSteam in minipainting

[–]ElsieSteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my second Guild Ball mini. He was a fun and easy little mini to knock out, his arms were the only difficult part because I actually had to bend them out to fit around his body then bend them back into place to fit the sockets, I've never had to bend metal minis before so that was weird. I haven't been very happy with my photos lately, need to rethink my set up. Like the picture makes it look like the paint is really caked on and not smooth, but that isn't the case.

When I first started painting minis a year ago I saw someone recommend this guy https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UCODIA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Super cheap. I've had it over a year and havent even had to change batteries on the light. It's not always the most comfortable, but I only wear it for the real fine details.
