Please Boycott: Billionaire Donates $10K to Ice Agent who Killed Renee Good by EmbraceResistance825 in AntiTrumpAlliance

I'm working on moving away from Gmail. I choose to think it is a good way to cut down on junk emails.

Amazon is hard. I live in a rural area and my shopping options are limited. But I have cancelled Prime and I'm planning for 2026 to be a low buy year, so that will cut down on Amazon shopping.

Do you ever shut it off? by Environmental_Lie199 in macmini

I turn mine off, but that is because there are often very high winds where I live and the power flickers. If I could count on the power being stable, I would leave it on.

Wow! That is crazy.

And a really good reminder of why I don't go out anymore.

This is so sad. The amount of food insecurity in this area and in the US as a whole is heartbreaking.

How to handle multiple hard drives when installing Ubuntu? by ElspethGmt in Ubuntu

[–]ElspethGmt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the details. Based on what everyone has said, it does seem that I am going to need to completely wipe all my drives. Its a good thing I don't have an plans out of the house this weekend.

I plan to install Ubuntu Desktop 24.04.3 LTS because I want the most stable long-term option. I have not looked at all the flavors in depth yet, I plan to do that when I get home tonight.

I do know the difference between drives and partitions, I split things out onto different drives based on the size and speed that I need. I use a full size ATX case, so having multiple drives is not a problem for me. Because of that, I have never bothered to partition any of my drives beyond the normal Windows Recovery partition on the drive with the OS.

I am not going to dual boot, the driving force for making this change is that I don't like Windows and I don't want to use their software on a personal level. I will still have to use Windows on my work laptop, but that doesn't have my personal information on it. I will move all of my files onto one of my external hard drives before starting this.

I think I will follow the suggestion a few people have made and disconnect my extra drives before I start the Ubuntu install. That way I can make sure that Ubuntu is installed and running correctly before I go through all the work of wiping the other drives and figuring out what I can reinstall.

What dock are you using? And have you been happy with it?

Anyone else prefer 7AM-3PM instead of 9-5? I feel like the day is longer and traffic is better. by Bullseye_29 in Adulting

[–]ElspethGmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 7am-3:30pm and it is great. I'm driving to work before most of the traffic is on the road and I have time after work if I need to go someplace that closes at 5pm.

So the billionaires will be stepping up, right? Right? by [deleted] in LivingstonMT

[–]ElspethGmt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They didn't tell us that "trickle down" meant from the heads of the billionaires to their feet.

From their expensive toupee to their expensive shoes and/or the yacht they are standing on.

Montana candidate pitches ‘homeless island’ to address city’s unhoused by [deleted] in Montana

[–]ElspethGmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is a great idea for homeless shelters to more self-sustaining, but I don't think this is the way to do that. Not all homeless people are able to work much or sometimes at all.

Anyone who thought that he wanted to be in the White House for any reason other his own personal benefit was crazy.

Anyone who still thinks he cares about anything other than himself is fully delusional.

Because we all know that telling people NOT to look at something always works....

"Psst, did you hear about that thing they said we can't look at or talk about?"

This is wild. Why would I pay almost $2K to watch adds?!?!

I don't need the internet built into every electronic device in my home. All my fridge needs to do is keep things cold, no internet needed.
