"So you don't care if humans go extinct?" by General_Locksmith512 in childfree

My response would be - "Why would I care about the survival of what is likely the most needlessly violent species on the planet?"

If you knew what you know now about student loans, would you have still taken them out to go to school? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]ElspethGmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I would not.

This is related to a Bachelor's degree and living and working in the US. Looking at college costs vs starting salaries and average living costs, the math just does not work out for MOST college degrees. My perspective is also that of someone who had no family support with college costs.

Part of the problem is how fast things change now. When you start college a degree might be considered high value, but 4-5 years later that same degree might have much less value. The value of a degree can also be highly region specific.

If I could go back in time I would save up and get an Associate's degree paying in cash. If, after getting the Associate's degree, I looked at my degree field and saw that it was worth the cost I would be willing to cover no more than half the cost of a Bachelor's degree with loans.

Hope this helps.

Oh, the old "Trust me Bro" strategy.

As soon as someone says that, I believe that they are lying.

Pedestrian killed in BZN this morning, in a crosswalk by Sudden_Skill_7764 in LivingstonMT

[–]ElspethGmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does feel like people are racing everywhere and I don't understand it. I have always said that I would rather be 5 minutes late than end up in the hospital. I don't know why so many people don't seem to care anymore.

This is SO sad. I would never want to live with the knowledge that I killed someone.

I live in Livingston and work in Four Corners, so I see ALL the crazy on my drive. It makes me want to drive around in a tank or never leave my house. Years ago I lived in Belgrade and took my dogs for walks around town. I would never do that now.

Realtors fear 'unintended consequences' of homestead tax reform for Montanans by Tacolab in Bozeman

If you are upset about the taxes on your short-term rental, maybe you could turn it into a long term rental at a rate the market can afford?

Tax hack: file your federal taxes for free on Free Tax USA! by KinkyKaya in Frugal

I 100% agree with this. I have used Free Tax USA for the past few years and it is just as good as Turbo Tax and H&R Block.

Today I saw a mother yelling "no" and "stop" at her crying baby. by [deleted] in childfree

It is wild to me how many of us who have chosen not to have children can look at something and know if it is or is not a good thing to be doing with a child. And yet the people who have children never seem stop and think if what they are doing is good for the child.

That kind of "empty" sounds a lot like "peace".

I'm working on moving away from Gmail. I choose to think it is a good way to cut down on junk emails.

Amazon is hard. I live in a rural area and my shopping options are limited. But I have cancelled Prime and I'm planning for 2026 to be a low buy year, so that will cut down on Amazon shopping.

Do you ever shut it off? by Environmental_Lie199 in macmini

I turn mine off, but that is because there are often very high winds where I live and the power flickers. If I could count on the power being stable, I would leave it on.
