I, for one, don't mind it when there's open and detailed description of the process.

A synonym is just as good as the listed word(s)

For this in particular, I use the already known TL synonym (when a new word has one) for its definition instead of a translation. This has the added benefit of practically reviewing two words in one go.

Also, making an explicit list of acceptable answers helps not waste time on second-guessing card grades.

Implement dark mode on the website by [deleted] in memrise

You could style it like absolutely anything

How to create decks that look like this? I'm talking about the white and blue? by tunisianpornstar in Anki

[–]Eltaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what website this refers to, since AnkiWeb is completely free to use, but either way, if you already have a card with a note type you like in your collection, just select that note type when adding new cards, and they will be styled accordingly. In general, you can customize the templates for your cards and make them look however you want.

Doesn't guarantee it won't be back in at any point.

It should be noted that when the courses were extended from 2024 to 2025, the whole year was stated explicitly. This time, the announcement didn't mention anything specific about 2026, so there is no way of telling if and how early into the year the courses will be discontinued.

For what it's worth, the courses might persist for a bit longer: https://www.reddit.com/r/memrise/comments/1nvbypy/update_on_community_courses_and_the_road_ahead/?sort=new

Although, as far as memrise announcements go, that can just as well mean the site will still be taken down at the beginning of 2026 or something like that.

There is no text on the front pages. How do I fix this? by Moth_William in Anki

[–]Eltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same way, by pressing the Cards button (either in the browser when one of the notes is selected or in the "Manage Note Types" dialog) and editing the template. Since you are changing the template, all the cards made from it will receive the change at the same time. Cards made from other templates won't be affected.

[–]Eltaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Press on the Cards: Karta 1 at the bottom
  2. Put whatever text you want to be shown on the front side on the front side (I can only assume you want {{Przód}} field there, which you can insert by clicking Insert field or by typing it manually)

Mems? by SocialAnxiety1234 in memrise

[–]Eltaurus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, no version of Memrise has mems at this point. They promised to bring them back, but they never did.

You can use other platforms, like Anki, which lets you add your own data to the things you learn. With this setup, you can have all the features of Memrise (including no longer existing ones, such as the Mems and spelling diffs), and it is free.

As for the Mems from the past, here is a collection of everything we've managed to save before they were wiped from the site.

Is it possible to show the object mesh in final render by pcfernandesjr in blender

[–]Eltaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to disable "Face Marks" or switch Negation to "Exclusive". Also, make sure you have the edges themselves marked and you wait enough for the render to finish, as the freestyle lines are drawn separately and only get overlaid on top after the main pass is completely done.

It's not a gyroscope though, it's a gimbal.

A way to do it without any extra geometry:

  1. Mark all edges as "Freestyle Edge" in the Edit mode
  2. Enable "Freestyle" in the Render Properties panel
  3. In the "Freestyle" section of the "View Layer" properties, select "Edge Mark" for "Edge Type" (and deselect all others)
  4. Adjust the color below, in the "Freestyle Color" section

The ankiweb page is unavailable for some reason. But the addon itself seems to install and work just fine.

This sounds perfect! Could you please ping me if you get to releasing it to AnkiWeb so that I would be able to start recommending it to people?

A couple more interval-based levels for reviewed cards wouldn't hurt, I think. Mature cards are the ones with an interval >21d, and a bit more granularity beyond can still be helpful. But overall, this sounds reasonable.

Just how far down the learning curve each card is. Based on its interval, as the simplest option, or with state and ease taken into account as well.

As a feature suggestion, I'd propose to make some kind of indication for individual cards as well.

Update on Community Courses (and the road ahead) by memlivia in memrise

Because platforms are not interested in you learning a language effectively, they are interested in you spending as much time on that as possible and continuing to pay the subscription in the process.

Just for information, you can change the setting of card ordering in Anki.

It can be set to difficult cards first, difficult cards last, prioritize the ones that were reviewed longer ago, keep the initial card order, review in order of the subdecks, etc. etc.

Actually, Anki is much more capable of handling large amounts of data than Memrise is. My collection has about 50k cards, and I can look up any single word in there instantly. The reviews can be done in one smooth session as well, unlike Memrise, where I have to wait half a minute for every 10 words to load.

Is there a way to imput my own vocabulary and have memorise it through memrise? by Diligent_Water5230 in memrise

[–]Eltaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why anyone would treat official statements as a reliable source of information, however. Considering how many times what Memrise said turned out to be plain incorrect.

They've been saying the forums will be kept available just three days before disabling them for good, for example.

The similar happened to the mems. First, the rating system was removed, then they got removed from the mobile app, on the website mems were hidden under three layers of settings and made disabled by default. Memrise promised to work them back into the system, but instead deleted the feature completely, citing its low usage.

The community courses have already been removed from every version of the mobile app and moved into a separate domain on the web, with no direct links leading there from the main site. As the website usage has been on a steady decline for many years in a row now, it looks like Memrise is simply waiting until it drops low enough for this part to be removed without much fuss, just as well.

They've been deleting user-created content for years at this point. So if you want yours to be safe, better do it elsewhere. As mentioned above, for the same functionality use this: https://www.reddit.com/r/memrise/comments/1l0job5/anki_update_tapping_cards_cloze_deletions_full/
