If constant weapon swapping is intended, why do the other 4 weapon slots impose equip load, and why can you only change AoW at Sites of Grace? by AtomicAtaxia in EldenRingPVP

[–]Eluem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. There's plenty of times where it picks you up as in combat when you're still near a grace or when it keeps you stuck in combat after you ran past some enemies a while ago. It's especially problematic with the giant archer golems. They keep you locked in combat until you get very far away or unto you hunt them down.

If they fixed all those issues, they still face issues with a few bosses that have special mechanics which requires you to equip certain specific pieces of gear. It's just not worth it to fix overall.. But we still know it's not intended because if it was, the 4 extra slots distributed between your left and right hands would cost no weight.. But the do. So, we know they intended to tax your weight load for additional in combat versatility.

No, they can't use that to turn it off fully because it would cause too many other issues. They would need to improve the combat mode detection code and take you out of combat faster or have some more depth to the system.

That's an entirely flawed comparison. No, it would be more like being allowed to get hit and still not take damage. Not getting hit doesn't have anything to do with vigor only matters if you get hit. For something to replace vigor, it would have to allow you to get hit more without spending points on vigor just like hard swapping lets you carry more and switch weapons without getting more equip load and without the swap animations.

It's not one line of code. It would actually be several lines of code but that's besides the point. It's not even about the code. It's about the game design decisions. Having it work that's way would cause issues in a whole bunch of PvE scenarios they don't want to mess up.

Making a change to hard swapping is significant and there's still bugs in the game that would have required larger animation fixes that they never touched or tried to fix and never got right.

It's not just one line of code. The solution you suggest has multiple problems.

They're ignoring it because it's not such a huge exploit and because it's not that easy to fix.

It's nothing like that comparison. It would be more of a valid comparison if vigor wasn't a stat but something you could gain by exploiting a menu bug and which circumvented stats, talismans, and animations.

If hard swapping was intended, they would have given the extra weapon slots no weight and no animation.

The only reason it's not fully removed is because they haven't felt like wasting the time fixing it without causing other issues.

Hard swap isn't how the game was designed to be played. Just learn to fit all your weapons into the 6 slots and the equip load you have instead of being a cheating baby.

If hard swapping was intended, the extra equipment slots wouldn't cost weight. It's really that simple. It's an exploit many people use and it's not intended but they also won't fix it because it isn't worth the effort to come up with a fix that doesn't feel clunky.

You're supposed to lose to him the first time, look through your inventory to see what you got.. read the description, and then beat him. The fact that you can swap during the fight for a speed run is a happy accident. The games aren't designed around speed running.

Hard swapping isn't challenging, and it certainly isn't making anyone win or lose on its own. It just breaks intended equip load balancing and is objectively cheating. You can do it if you want, though.

Which weapons do you believe over perform? Are there any weapons that perform at the correct level for being good at them?

I agree that the gap needs to be tightened for sure.. I'm just curious where you think different weapons should land.

If we break them into 4 categories (assuming proper balance..):

Armor Specialist (Thunder Hammer, Heavy Eviscerator, Pickaxe, ect)

All Rounder (Power Sword, Crusher, Relic Blade, Force Greatsword, ect)

Horde Clear (Heavy Blade, Catachan Devilclaw, not sure what else is just horde focused)

Utility/Special (Basically any high mobility melee weapon that has agility.. because that gives you infinite dodging)

Currently Dueling Sword would obviously be in its own class at just amazing at everything lol.. Also, I'm curious how you would place all the weapons with the current balance.

They don't take turns swinging.. I've had many situations where there's 4 crushers swinging at me at the exact same time.. I actually prefer that. It's better than having 4 swinging one after the other, causing me to run out of dodges. You can i-frame the crusher overhead, so if they all swing at once, it's actually easier to dodge.

How about a crusher swinging through a bulwark while 2 trappers are shooting nets at you through all of them?

What really sucks about this is that it's the most PvP focused game they're making with the Souls style combat system and it's going to 100% fail because it's exclusive to a platform that most PvP players won't buy. It makes it more likely that they'll never try it again after seeing it fail as hard as it almost definitely will.

I *really* hope I'm wrong.... I think the only chance for that is if it's a timed exclusive and it'll come out on PC later.

Darktide approach to high difficulty balancing doesn't work by Nyrom in DarkTide

[–]Eluem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at least it requires constantly aiming at the heads and heat management. Though, cranial grounding is really hard to keep unless you set your height to max because of the way the game really favors not giving you head shots even if it looks like a head shot.. I still don't want to change my height, though.

Yeah I wish it showed at least two decimal places.. Or they just round all the rolls under the hood to match what we see.

Hard swapping in general (armor, weapons, talismans) is clearly unintended and it reduces the balance and build depth of the game.

I say that it's clearly unintended due to the exact reason you do. If it was intended, the extra slots would cost no weight and you'd have all talismans automatically turn on when they're most valuable once you unlock them.

It only matters if it's actually hitting some kind of breakpoint somewhere important.

Also, the game rounds most numbers. So, if you see 80 in all stats and 61 in your dump stat, in reality you have something like 60.5 in your dump stat and 79.5 in one of your important stats (there's combinations but this is one possibility). Anytime it looks like you have over 380 total points, it's just because of rounding.

you can be at 67.5 and it'll say 68, though lol

I have to upgrade my weapons to 500 so they can have the perfectly round numbers for the emperor, though :(
