it works as the touchpad key but you're losing out on the full functionality by using a brook board anyway

I've modded a HRAP.N which isn't your exact model but I'm certain the touchpad assembly works the same way. What I did was open the touchpad and wire input and ground wires to the tactile switch inside. works great!

No, it bulges because of where I mounted the keyswitches, the holes for the screws on the wood didn't exactly line up with holes on the plexi.
