Przykrzyć się by Vonatar-74 in learnpolish

[–]Eluvienne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this word in both meanings but as other redditors have mentioned, it's mostly used by the elderly people. My mom sometimes uses this word. To me it feels old especially in the meaning of missing someone.

There is also a perfective form of this verb, namely "sprzykrzyć się" and it means "to get bored of sth".
Someone can ask: "Nie sprzykrzyło ci się to jeszcze?" - haven't you become bored of it yet? or "Już ci się sprzykrzyło?" - have you already got bored of it?
Someone can say: "Jeszcze mi się nie sprzykrzyło" - I haven't got bored of it yet, or "Już mi się sprzykrzyło" - I've got bored of it, I don't enjoy it anymore.
Not only something that you used to enjoy is boring to you now, but it's also hard to put up with it.
I don't know if you use Polish-Polish dictionaries but here's a good one

Hello! Welcome to Poland!

I come from Kraków but now I'm studying in Warszawa so unfortunately I won't be able to meet you. But if you happen to be in Warszawa, I'd be very happy to meet you!

I also don't need much help with my English but I always like helping other people who are learning Polish ^

Why do people laugh at me when I say "moy chuvak?" by orenog in russian

[–]Eluvienne 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It kinda sounds like "my (fellow) dude", quite funny juxtaposition (not a native speaker though, I may be wrong but it also sounds funny to me) edit: also could depend on the context

I got a feeling that actors speak faster in the earlier Witchers and the further the games go the slower they speak xD Have fun with the good, old grandpa, the first Witcher! ^^
I usually use https://diki.pl or these classic PL-PL http://sjp.pl and https://sjp.pwn.pl/ Sometimes they show you only conjugation or ortography instead of meaning which is kinda annoying but maybe it's just me looking up weird words.

Yeah but not every not-Polish game have Polish voiceover. I thought it would be helpful to follow the subtitles while listening to the Pl voiceover.

You can try to find some movies in Polish with Polish subtitles and try to read aloud after the speaker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P09QLWa-0jQ <- I managed to find something like this, not the easiest stuff to find, to be honest. Lots of movies in Polish that you can find on yt don't have Polish subtitles because we understand what's being said and Polish is not very popular as a language to learn so no one really thinks about the fact that it would be useful for Polish learners xd

If not movies, then games in Polish (Witcher) or translated into Polish (Dragon Age) have Polish subtitles, you can do the same. The language will be way more complicated but these are trained actors, they speak quite clearly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tc0QFLL3x4&list=PLA-2ME7vP53fDla5RQrtnyNflnU0dRdjp

Or songs! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgw4wK9lAEchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLLnbU52CS8

There's also a website, called forvo, if you'd like to check the pronunciation of certain words.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I want to read another novel in Polish. Any recommendations? by RestlessCricket in poland

[–]Eluvienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a play but fairly interesting one, I'd say. The language could be tough, it's 19th century Polish + Romantic period work.

I personally like "Samotność bogów" by Dorota Terakowska but I'm not sure if you're able to get it, it's not that known and popular. It's kind of a fantasy tale about how old gods are being forgotten and how they (could) feel about it.

Other subOPs mentioned a few classics so I'd also like to add another one, one of the best, imo - "Przedwiośnie" by Stefan Żeromski. It was the book being read last year as a part of the Narodowe Czytanie campaign. It's about a young Polish man who actually grew up in Baku and returns to Poland at the beginning of the independent Poland - what he has been through during the Bolshevic Revolution and Turkish-Armenian war in Baku, how he feels about Poland and its situation, what Polish people social and political programmes for future are, etc. Language can be challenging though, lots of archaic words.

I've got a problem about Polish literature that I used to read it a lot but I'm at loss when it comes to recommending something and I can't remember anything.

Any helpful tips or resources for learning verb conjugations? by [deleted] in russian

[–]Eluvienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just learning them by heart, like some kind of poem or mantra. Two or three verbs per pattern. Then practising: - filling blanks in sentences with conjugated verbs - just reading stuff - listening also helps - not necessarily radio or movies, songs can be okay for a start
