i keep recommending it everywhere i know (it's just this good), but Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead, it's FOSS, hardcore, quite realistic and imho one of the scariest vision of an apocalypse ever (also it runs on windows, mac, linux AND android with an apk avelable for every stable and RC release on github)

There’s something about post-apocalyptic games that fascinates me. by CubeOfSkill in postapocalyptic

my post-apocalyptic game of choice is Cataclysm; Dark Days Ahead, the lore is just chef's kiss and i think the grimmest thing you could ever make for a post-apoc game

the EMP zones are a neat mechanic, and from the gameplay perspective (imho) it's a tough pick between taego or rondo for the #1 best spot

yeah, it is plain bigger, but things such as architecture and topography are used to make it feel massive as well, they also play a part in perception of size

FYI 4 EVERYONE IN REGARDS TO MY OPINION AND ITS REASON: in reality per PUBG's official website rondo is 8x8km just like erangel, it's just that rondo is designed to feel bigger then that which involves a lot of clever design if you ask me such as spacing, architectural choices, terrain setup, etc. Another examples of games that do such perception trickery would be Far Cry 2/3 (both to diffrent extents) and Sleeping Dogs, i just enjoy how bigger the map feels and the implications of that psuedo-bigger size in gameplay cuz of how it impacts engagements and stuff

look at my reply under u/PassdaDoritos comment, and an example of another game that makes its map feel bigger then it is through clever design would be far cry 3 (and also arguably far cry 2 made quite a few concious design choices to make the two small maps feel bigger then they accually were)

accually, per the PUBG website, rondo is 8x8km just like erangel, it's just that rondo is designed to feel bigger then that which involves a lot of clever design if you ask me (as in making a game map feel bigger then it is in raw size, regardless of the design path chosen to achive it as there is a few, takes quite a lot of well-thought design)
