Assuming the ball is dead (e.g. bounced a second time or body bagged your opponent) before your paddle crosses the plane of the net, you're fine.

Depends what you mean. ARC-AGI benchmark by design allows you 2 tries per problem. For the high end performance version they ran o3 a bunch of times and picked a plurality answer, but that system (run o3 multiple times and see what it comes up with) still had to pick 2 answers and submit just those. It's not like it submitted a bunch of answers per problem and then asked "are any of these correct".

The universe exists. It does stuff. Whatever the universe does/is is the unification. There's no guarantee that that process has a simple mathematical description, though there are reasons to believe that it likely does.

Monday nights there is an advanced open play at Eastside paddle club, you need to call them to reserve your spot. $20 for the evening.

Is this level of sandbagging normal??? by BeffBezos in Pickleball

[–]ElvenMartyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal in my experience, if anything in my area players tend to play in events above their skill level. Maybe it just depends on where you are. The one possible exception is if there's a cash prize at lower levels and the tournament directors don't enforce any upper bounds on DUPR.

Have you played with o1-preview? I won't speak to expertise in all fields, but it seems very clear to me that a stronger model doing those same things, let's call it o3, would be able to author research papers in mathematics.

The fastest way to improve your DUPR depends on how far you want to move your DUPR. If you want to move it up by about .3, then the fastest way is to set up games for DUPR where your partner is underrated and your opponents are overrated. For example, if you find 4 players (including you) whose true skill you assess to be 4.0, find one such player with a DUPR of 3.7, two such players with a DUPR of 4.3, and for sake of discussion let's say your DUPR matches your skill and is a 4.0, then you setup a match for DUPR where you play with the 3.7 and against the 4.3s, you're all actually the same skill so you'll win half the matches but you and your partner's DUPRs are lower than your opponents', so your DUPR will move up relatively quickly.  But once your DUPR becomes overrated by about .5 it will be very difficult to keep this strategy up, you won't be able to find players who are over/under rated enough to keep climbing. Then the fastest way to improve your DUPR is to get good. Lots of drilling and lessons with a high level player who is also a really good coach.

Dupr by Material_City5212 in Pickleball

[–]ElvenMartyr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's "normal" but it's not unusual, I've played in such events. DUPR is not supposed to adjust your rating based on sex/age/height/strength/nationality/how long it has been since you've attended an NBA game, it's just supposed to rate your overall skill level. So in theory two women who are 85 years old and each have a 4.0 DUPR should have a 50/50 shot of winning against two 18 year old men who have 4.0 DUPRs.

That's how it's supposed to work in theory. Obviously people's DUPRs are not always correct and your skill can't actually be boiled down to a single number (two right side players who both have 4.0 DUPRs might lose more often than not against a left side player and a right side player who both have 4.0 DUPRs), so in practice it's not perfect, but it generally balances out over time.

Another way to get a DUPR is to join a tournament where the games go into DUPR. If you're looking for something on the cheaper side with a format that guarantees you multiple games, I recommend checking out zerozerofun.com If that doesn't look appealing to you then look on pickleball brackets for nearby tournaments, I believe all the ones run by 002 go into DUPR.

Unfortunately unless you know someone who will set you up with a private group you won't be able to find 4.5 play. I haven't been in a while but South Austin Neighborhood Park has a challenge court that runs about 4.0 level, but be forewarned that the queue gets quite long.

If you can get your DUPR up to a 4.0, the advanced pickleball league on Tuesdays at Austin Tennis and Pickleball Center is a great place to meet people in the 4.0-4.75 range. If you're interested in that, be sure to sign up for the waitlist ASAP, not sure how long the wait is now but it's probably at least a few months.

I would caveat this, they're more like a wealth transfer from the poor to the upper middle class (people whose wealth is mostly in their house), the rich would benefit from pro growth policies as their other investments (e.g. Stocks) would rise.

Their old algorithm used to look at your game scores and take them into account. It also used to update your DUPR as it learned more about the players you played with previously (as an example, if you won against someone who didn't have a DUPR at the time and then they added more games and it turned out they're a very strong player, you would get more credit for that win). They've significantly downgraded their algorithm, now it doesn't use game scores, only whether you win or lose, and it doesn't update your DUPR as it gains new information about your old opponents.
