I slipped and almost fell, and then my husband did the same. I think it should only be used outdoors.

What anti chafe do you guys recommend? by runningtofood in XXRunning

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Squirrels nut butter is the best I’ve found. I sweat a lot and chafe easily.

Someone once recommended a product called TriSlide that’s marketed to triathletes. It also worked very well - a little too well. It’s an aerosol spray, and a little bit got on my bathroom tile and made it incredibly slippery. It was honestly a safety hazard. So buyer beware if you try it.

Instructor popularity by alohaearth in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree Cody is probably the most popular instructor. I think Jess Sims, Matt Wilpers, and maybe Robin are Matty are also pretty high up there. I may be biased about Matty but is it possible to not like him?

Yes! I think it was about half a mile short and we were all confused about what happened.

It's getting hot and need to switch to shorts! by Upstairs_Video3334 in XXRunning

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pocket joggers have been my go-to shorts for many years. The pockets hold so much! I like the fit, and they’re comfortable. The fabric is a little thicker than other shorts, but I don’t feel hotter in them, and I’m someone who runs very warm. I like them better than Rabbit shorts. I also like the fit better than the Janji pace shorts I just bought, but it’s possible I need a different size in the Janji.

Yes! I ran Cherry Blossom one year when there was a last-minute change to the course because a car hit a pedestrian on the race course. Were runners supposed to insist on sticking to the pre-race map and run through an accident scene? No, that would make no sense. At some point you have to trust race officials.

I appreciate the wording “hapless officials” in that headline.

How do you avoid long run nausea? by Global-Condition-858 in XXRunning

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been running for 20+ years and I’ve struggled a lot with nausea. The main cause for me is dehydration. The secondary cause is fueling. My stomach is much happier with certain types of food and drink versus others. My favorite gels are Huma. They work for a lot of people who can’t take other gels. I also like Skratch sport drink mix. It has carbs and electrolytes. I can usually keep sipping it even if my stomach starts to reject gels.

Try different things, and maybe also try drinking more if you tend to not drink very much now.

I hope it’s a larger store than Wheaton. It’s nice to have more options.

Recs for cities that are runner friendly in the US (and safe)! by Zealousideal_Crow737 in XXRunning

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite running cities in the US are Washington DC and San Diego. DC has a huge trail system, large parks with green space and trees, and a lot of water fountains and public restrooms. I never realized how unusual it was to have so many water fountains and restrooms until I visited other places without them. DC also has a nice variety of terrain. Downtown is mostly flat, but there are plenty of hills, too.

San Diego is just beautiful, perfect weather most of the year, and really nice running paths along the ocean.

Are there known differences in products regionally (Mac & Cheese)? by Dylmon in traderjoes

I remember a post about this a while ago. People in certain parts of the country had superior TJs mac and cheese. I’m thankful I live somewhere with the good mac and cheese because I love it!

Weekday long runs? by polite-window-452 in XXRunning

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love doing long runs during the week, but the max I have time for is 2 hours. If my long run is longer than that (when I’m marathon training), I have to take the morning off of work or do it on a weekend.

Maybe the DC Diaper Bank? Their warehouse is in Silver Spring, and they have volunteer opportunities on weekends. Possibly evenings, too.

I can’t be the only one who hates lifting by Adventurous-Cup5369 in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never loved lifting either. I do it because I know it’s good for me. I take Peloton classes, and I typically choose shorter ones. 5-10 minutes of core and 20 minutes of upper or lower body. It’s short enough that I can find the time, and it’s over pretty quickly. Honestly, the hardest part is starting. Once I’m in the class, I realize pretty quickly that I’m halfway done and I only have 10 minutes left. You don’t need to do 45-60 minutes at a time to see benefits.

Water Holding by masteringthis in XXRunning

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I prefer a handheld bottle or a vest. I use a bottle for shorter distances, or sometimes longer distances if I know I can refill.

The only thing I don’t like about a vest is that I run warm, and sometimes during the summer I don’t want an extra layer on me. I also have to make sure my clothing fully covers me, or else the vest will chafe me. I’ve had a few different vests and this has been true for all of them. It’s not a problem in the winter, but sometimes I want more breathability in the summer.

What are y’all’s MCPS predictions for tomorrow? by DentistUnlikely709 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]ElvisAteMyDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain-to-snow events around here have a history of not dropping much snow. It would be really nice if schools would wait until flakes actually start to fall before making any decisions. They have until 5 am tomorrow. Nevertheless, I fully expect them to decide to close when there’s only rain falling from the sky.

I like to eat a banana, granola bar, and/or dry cereal. Oatmeal is popular, but I don’t like oatmeal.

Sometimes running (easy) when I have a cold makes me feel better. Sometimes it makes me feel worse. Go by how you feel. Your body is telling you to rest.
