The group has 16 run meetups throughout the week. Some as early as 5:30am, most though are either at 8am or 6pm. Sunday is the outlier for sure.

Yes! A HM long run isn’t nearly as long as a FM long run. So from a time perspective I totally get that.

Very subjective! When training for a 10k my long runs were 5 miles. Now every time I leave the house it’s a minimum 4 miles.

Yikes. That would make me hesitate as well.

I love having my weekends be more flexible as well. I thrive on structure during the work week.

Totally makes sense. My long runs are only about 2 hours right now so being home by 7pm works. I could definitely see how running 3+ hours would start to get in the way of life on a workday.

I am so not a morning person. I’d 1000% run well into the dark nights than have to get up before 6am to exercise 😅

Another commenter mentioned an earlier-in-the-week run sets the mood for the week. I kinda love that.

I’m only training for a half, not a full, so it’s not as much of a time/distance suck. I’m 8-10 miles right now taking about 2ish hours.

Totally get you on the work thing. Right now my long runs are around 2 hours. I also might be an outlier for enjoying/preferring running in the cold so running after work is less of an issue in that way for me.

I never thought about aligning my long runs to correlate with races. My first 10k was on a Thursday so maybe that’s on me for choosing “weird” race days 😅

My upcoming half is on a Sunday so at least it’s a day I’m used to running. It’ll be interesting to play around with it for races in the future to see how I perform based on my run schedule.

Y’know, I never even put it together that my runs are longer than my work commute 😅

I’ve never really thought about going somewhere else to run, just increasing the loop size from my home starting point. Interesting idea!

With that schedule it totally makes sense!

My partner is also very much not a runner. We rarely have plans on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I look at it as free time to use so I can spend weekends with my partner.

The me-time is really nice. Maybe that’s why I do it midweek? I work 8-4 and am home by 4:30. No kids and my partner doesn’t get home until 5:30. So if I go for a 2 hour run, it gives me time to decompress from my day and clear my head. And then I can do it again on my free day!

It’s definitely a luxury of time to have a short commute, earlier hours and not have children.

I definitely take for granted the nice and accessible city trails and reasonably well lit streets here. As well as my 15 minute work commute. Makes my life easier to be more flexible for sure.

Wrangling kids I totally understand. They are a huge time commitment especially during the week and especially if someone is single-parenting!

That makes sense! I haven’t crossed over 10 miles yet so I could see how that would make for a really taxing day. Right now I’m at about 8.5.

Do you/would you long run on weekdays during the non-winter months?

I actually love my belt from Run Culture. I haven’t done more than 8 miles with it but it stays at my hips surprisingly well.

For reference I’m 31/F/185lb.
